Chapter 391 I Will Let You Down for the Rest of My Life

The vendor shouted from behind. Amelia, holding the dessert in one hand and pulling Samuel with the other, ran quickly back to the car.

Samuel looked at the smile on her face and asked, "Do you like the desserts from here that much?"

Amelia had already guessed what he was going to say.

"Don't overthink it. It's not that I like their desserts. Don't ask the owner for the recipe."

"If you don't like them, then what is it?"

"Kind of like keeping a promise?"

Last time she came with Felix to buy desserts for Marlowe, she had secretly prayed in her heart, hoping that soon she could come back with Samuel to buy desserts again.

Now, her wish had come true.

She smiled with her eyes crinkling, and Samuel didn't ask any more questions.

He just brought up the first time they came here to buy desserts.

"We both forgot to bring money, so you came up with the idea of helping the owner sell things to pay for them."

"Yeah. Back then, we didn't know we'd be separated."

"We'll never be separated again," Samuel said firmly.

Amelia nodded hard. "Yes!"

That same day when they got back, Samuel started investigating Sharon's family situation.

Her parents were both ordinary office workers, and they got their jobs through Quinton's connections.

Besides having Sharon as a daughter, they also had a son.

Their son was all grown up and about to graduate from college.

Samuel checked and found that this boy had been quite troublesome during school. It was questionable whether he could graduate successfully.

A plan was already forming in his mind.

Soon it was the next day.

The day of Felix and Sharon's surgeries.

Felix's surgery was first.

As Amelia said, she would perform his surgery.

So Felix wasn't that nervous anymore.

He knew that Amelia's medical skills were excellent, and this kind of minor surgery was nothing for her.

Under the anesthesia, he quickly fell asleep.

After falling asleep, he had a dream.

He found himself floating in the air, arriving at a day over twenty years ago.

And this day was the very day Amelia disappeared.

He saw himself taking Amelia, dodging the bodyguards' watch, running to a market event in Goldenvale to join the fun.

Originally he was holding Amelia's hand tightly, but his attention was distracted by a circus performance.

Back then, he was just a child too.

Watching his childhood self get distracted by the circus performance and let go of Amelia's hand, he floated in the air shouting anxiously.

"Don't let go of her! You idiot! Don't let go! Look back!"

But little Amelia had already been pushed away by the crowd, and he was completely unaware.

"Stop watching! You idiot! You fool! Look at your sister! She's gone!"

Felix was spinning around anxiously.

He wanted to grab Amelia to prevent her from being pushed farther away by the crowd, but his body was floating in the air and couldn't come down.

Just then, he saw a hunched old man approach Amelia, trying to lure her away with a piece of candy.

But Amelia shook her head and said with principle, "I won't go with you. I need to stay with Felix. I don't want candy from strangers."

Impatience flashed in the old man's eyes, and he picked up Amelia and ran.

Little Amelia wanted to scream, but the old man covered her mouth with a cloth, preventing her from making any sound.

Soon, the old man disappeared.

Amelia disappeared with him.

Only a van drove out from the market.

"No! Amelia! No!"

Felix suddenly opened his eyes.

He saw Amelia gently patting his shoulder.

"Felix, can you hear me?"

She was no longer a child, but had completely grown up into a beautiful woman.

And her eyes were calm and clear, as if she could stay composed in any situation.

Felix's eyes changed from panic to joy, and he suddenly reached out and hugged her tightly.

Amelia was stunned.

Samuel beside them frowned even more.

The next moment, they heard Felix say with a sob, "I'm sorry, Amelia, I'm sorry. I lost you."

He had always thought that Amelia had run off on her own that day because she was disobedient.

He had responsibility, but Amelia shared half the blame.

He had always thought this way, using it to ease his guilt.

Until that dream

made him see clearly that Amelia hadn't run off to play on her own.

She was pushed away by the crowd, and then forcibly taken by a human trafficker.

She was so small, yet she knew to say she couldn't take candy from strangers, that she needed to find him.

But foolish him was distracted by the circus performance, completely unaware that Amelia had been stolen away.

"I'm sorry, Amelia, it's all my fault, I'm sorry!"

His tongue wasn't completely straight yet, he just kept apologizing.

Amelia patted his back.

"Felix, did you have a nightmare?"

"It was a trip down memory lane, but also some sort of nightmare."

Amelia asked what nightmare it was, but Felix didn't say more.

He only said, "Amelia, I'll owe you for the rest of my life."

Amelia wanted to ask more, but Felix fell asleep again.

"It's the effect of the anesthesia," Samuel said. "When the anesthesia hasn't fully worn off, people do talk nonsense."

Amelia nodded.

"Probably."

But she could see that Felix was shaken up by the nightmare.

But there was no point analyzing it further. They'd know when Felix fully woke up.

She said, "Mom and Dad are still waiting outside the operating room. They don't know we came down through the private passage. I'll go up and get them, and prepare for the second surgery. Can you watch Felix for me?"

Samuel agreed, but asked her, "Won't it be too tiring?"

"No, their injuries are both in areas that are easy to operate on. The difficulty is very low."

"Since the difficulty is low, why not let another doctor do Sharon's surgery?"

Samuel felt bad for Amelia.

Amelia smiled and said she was fine, then went upstairs.

Samuel had to stay in the hospital room with Felix.

Soon, Natalie and the others came down.

A group of people gathered in the room, waiting for Felix to wake up.

Since they were there, Samuel didn't stay longer and went to the surgical floor to wait for Amelia and Sharon.

Their surgery times were both around an hour and a half. Samuel didn't find the wait boring.

Waiting for Amelia to finish work was a beautiful thing.

However, this time an hour and a half passed, but the operating room light was still on.

Samuel felt vaguely uneasy.

Finally, after another half hour, the operating room light finally went dark.

Soon after, Amelia came out.

She didn't take the fast passage, but deliberately came out through the main door. She must have something to say.

Samuel hurried to meet her.

"What happened?"

Amelia bit her lip, her eyes slightly red.

She said, "During the surgery, Sharon woke up once. Because it hurt so much, the surgery almost failed."

"How could this happen? Did the anesthesiologist not inject the proper dosage?"

"It's not the anesthesiologist's problem." Amelia said bitterly, "Anesthesiologists control the dosage based on height and weight, but none of us expected that Sharon has a very high alcohol tolerance. So she's very insensitive to anesthesia."

"What does that mean?"

Amelia explained to him that people with high alcohol tolerance are often not as sensitive to anesthesia.

Because of this, anesthesiologists will increase the amount of anesthesia for patients with a particularly high alcohol tolerance.
