Chapter 386: Safe Return
Chapter 386: Safe Return
Felix told her that they had divided into teams. One group would follow the plan to find her and help eliminate Clark first.
The other group would go directly after the rest of the Bloody Syndicate members.
Amelia asked with some concern, "What if the islanders accidentally hurt them? They have a few guns too—I gave them those."
Samuel spoke up, "Don't worry, I told them in advance."
The people Felix sent would tie a red cloth around their heads.
When the islanders saw it, they'd know they were on their side and wouldn't hurt them by mistake.
Amelia breathed a small sigh of relief, then said, "Then let's hurry and help too."
"No." Samuel gripped her hand firmly. "I need to make sure you're safe first. You'll come back to the ship with me, then I'll return."
Felix interrupted Samuel.
"You don't need to come back either. After everything you've been through these past few days, you're exhausted physically and mentally. What if something else happens? We have plenty of people, we don't need you two. Plus, government people are already on their way. They're coming by helicopter—they'll be here in ten minutes at most. By the time you get on the ship, they might already be here."
Amelia and Samuel exchanged glances, knowing they really weren't needed anymore at this point.
So they might as well just keep themselves safe.
"Once you're on the ship, head straight back. The government people will back us up. The sooner you get back, the less Mom and Dad will worry."
Amelia nodded.
"Felix, I'm leaving everything here to you."
"Don't worry, I've got this." Felix patted her shoulder.
Amelia felt warm inside.
Once upon a time, she never imagined Felix would say something like"I've got this" to her, and she certainly never thought that hearing Felix say those words would make her feel so at ease.
The two didn't delay any longer and each took a gun for protection before heading to the coast.
On the way, they ran into two Bloody Syndicate members.
And quite coincidentally, they were the two "cooks' from the cafeteria.
They were terrified and didn't dare stay on the island, wanting to escape.
But they happened to run right into Amelia and Samuel.
Amelia didn't need to step in—Samuel had already taken both men down.
One of them recognized Amelia at that moment.
"You're Tucker?"
Amelia switched to Tucker's voice. "Good evening."
Both men looked at her in shock.
One was amazed that Tucker was actually a woman!
The other had already figured out that this Tucker was a fake.
But before they could say anything, Samuel had already killed them both.
Worried Amelia might think he was cruel, he explained, "Everyone in the Bloody Syndicate is bad news. They burn, kill, and rob—they don't spare children or women. Many women either died on the spot from their torture or didn't want to live anymore. That's why most of the people left in the granary are men."
"No wonder."
She had thought the island just didn't have many women to begin with.
She didn't realize they'd been tortured to death by Bloody Syndicate members.
A cold light flashed in Amelia's eyes.
"They all deserve to die!"
"Yes. So you won't blame me, will you?"
Amelia gave a bitter laugh. "Blame you for what? Don't you trust me that much?"
Samuel said, "It's not that I don't trust you. I just hope that in your heart, I'm perfect."
"But I love you as a person, not your perfection."
Samuel's lips curved into a smile.
The two continued through the dark night and soon reached the coast safely.
Sure enough, many ships and speedboats were docked at the coast.
Someone with a gun came over from a distance to check their identities.
"It's us." Amelia and Samuel raised their hands.
After confirming they were on the same side, the person immediately led them onto the ship.
On the ship, Amelia and Samuel saw Yosef.
Yosef wasn't good with guns and his fighting skills were average, so he was in charge of coordination on the ship rather than participating in actual combat.
Smart people coming to rescue others first need to protect themselves.
Samuel was relieved.
He was glad everyone hadn't come to rescue him blindly.
But Yosef's eyes turned red.
He walked up and punched Samuel's shoulder.
"Do you know you almost scared me to death!"
Samuel laughed. "But I'm fine, aren't I?"
Yosef wanted to say something else when suddenly his nose twitched and he frowned. "What's that smell?"
The two exchanged glances.
Amelia spoke first. "It's not important - we'll explain slowly when we get back. He hasn't slept or eaten well these past few days. I'm taking him back to rest first and check his condition."
"Of course, you should go. I've got things here."
This was the second person to say something like that to them today.
Amelia and Samuel both felt warm inside.
Having friends and comrades to fight alongside was truly one of life's great blessings.
Just as they were about to leave by speedboat, the sound of a helicopter came from overhead.
The local government people had arrived.
Yosef said, "Now you can really relax. Not one of the Bloody Syndicate members will get away."
Amelia nodded and asked about Sharon.
Learning she had already left, she didn't delay any longer and got on the speedboat with Samuel to leave.
The sea was a quiet expanse of black, but Amelia wasn't scared at all.
Because the person she loved was right beside her. He would keep her safe, and she didn't need to worry about anything.
Thinking this, she actually fell asleep on the speedboat.
When she woke up again, she was already on the big bed in her own room.
The soft bed, smooth silk covers, and luxurious ceiling made her unsure for a moment whether she was in a dream or reality.
Until Samuel's voice came from beside her.
"You're awake?"
Amelia looked over and realized that in the darkness, Samuel had been watching over her bedside the whole time.
She quickly sat up.
"What time is it? Why aren't you lying down and resting?"
Samuel said, "You looked so tired, I didn't have the heart to wake you."
He had even bathed her and she hadn't woken up, which showed how exhausted she'd been these past few days, and also how at ease she felt after finding him.
Because she felt safe, she could sleep so deeply.
As Samuel spoke, he began answering her questions one by one.
"It's already noon, almost twelve. I woke up around nine, but I was afraid you'd worry if you woke up and didn't see me, so I've been waiting for you to wake up."
Amelia felt warm inside and stretched both arms straight toward him.
Samuel moved close with perfect understanding and hugged her.
The distance between them was so close they could hear each other's heartbeats.
After a long while, Amelia finally let go, and Samuel released her.
She still had many questions to ask.
But before she could speak, Samuel had already guessed what she wanted to ask and answered everything.
"As soon as we reached shore last night, they knew. They'd been waiting at the shore the whole time. They even set up a small tent just to see us as soon as possible. Right now, Mom and Dad are probably busy in the kitchen downstairs."
"Felix, Grant, and Yosef—everyone who stayed there last night came back safely."
Then he added, "But Felix got hurt a little."
