Chapter 293 The Bracelet is Poisonous
But Lucy was even more indignant.
She wasn't only upset about Julia's harsh tone. She was also furious about the bracelet on Amelia's wrist.
She had seen Julia playing with this bracelet a few days ago.
She thought it looked beautiful and wanted to ask Julia for it, but Julia refused.
Now this bracelet she had been eyeing was on Amelia's wrist.. How could she be in a good mood?
"Why should I apologize to her? I heard she came back from the countryside. Who knows if she's even the real daughter of the Richardson family? She might just be an impostor. I'm not apologizing to some wild girl of unknown origins."
Before the word "apologize" could leave her mouth, Julia slapped Lucy hard across the face.
Lucy covered her face, staring at Julia in disbelief.
"You hit me because of her?"
Julia usually doted on her the most!
Normally, even if Lucy looked even slightly upset, Julia would worry so much she could barely eat..
But today, she had slapped her because of Amelia?
"Aunt Julia, you don't need to do this. I don't mind. Lucy is still young, please don't hit her again."
Amelia stepped forward to mediate.
Originally, if Lucy had just taken this chance to apologize, everyone could have saved face, but this Lucy was clearly spoiled rotten.
She shoved Amelia away.
"Get lost! I don't need your fake kindness!"
Amelia was confused. "Why do you hate me so much?"
Lucy was too embarrassed to say she was jealous that Amelia was prettier than her, so she just said, "You stole my bracelet! That bracelet was supposed to be mine. My mom was going to give it to me!"
She acted childish to hide her jealousy.
But Amelia was secretly pleased.
Wasn't this a pleasant surprise?
She had been worrying about how to get rid of that bracelet.
So Amelia immediately said, "So it's because of this bracelet. Since you like it, I'll give it back to you."
She quickly removed the bracelet and put it on Lucy's wrist.
Lucy was was suprised.
She hadn't expected to get the bracelet back so easily.
And Amelia said "give it back to you" instead of "give it to you," which made Lucy feel a bit better.
At least Amelia knew her place!
Lucy was about to say something to ease the tense atmosphere, but Julia walked over with a dark expression and said, "Take off the bracelet and give it back to Amelia! This is my gift to Amelia. Why are you so thoughtless?"
The slight smile that had just formed on Lucy's lips immediately disappeared.
"I don't want to!"
She was only fourteen, and deep down, she was still just a little girl.
And little girls have the strongest sense of pride.
Julia's actions made her feel completely humiliated.
Seeing Julia reaching for the bracelet, Lucy's anger flared up. She turned around, dodged Julia's hand, quickly removed the bracelet herself, and hurled it hard onto the ground.
Julia froze.
Everyone else froze too.
Not because Lucy had thrown the bracelet, but because after it cracked, a small section turned out to be hollow, and a large amount of white powder spilled out.
Even Lucy looked stunned.
Only Amelia, though her expression showed surprise, felt no shock at all inside.
She had already noticed something was wrong with this bracelet.
And she knew that inside the bracelet was some Frostbane Powder.
Frostbane Powder was highly toxic, bbut it only slowly evaporated into gas at temperatures above 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
Temperatures too high or too low wouldn't work.
And human body temperature was just right to make Frostbane Powder evaporate.
Inhaling more than a certain amount would slowly make the body stiff, somewhat similar to getting ALS.
So when Lucy said she liked this bracelet, Amelia immediately put it on Lucy's wrist.
She knew Julia definitely wouldn't let Lucy wear this bracelet.
And with Lucy's temper, once Julia refused to give it to her, she would inevitably think "if I can't have it, I'll destroy it."
Sure enough, things went as expected—Lucy threw the bracelet directly.
"Aunt Julia, what is this powder?" Amelia was the first to speak, breaking the silence.
Madeline also looked at Julia with a dark expression.
She had no idea about this.
If Julia had just simply taught Amelia a lesson to make her know to respect the Wood family, she wouldn't have interfered.
But now the situation was clearly went far beyond a simple lesson.
Especially since she knew nothing about it.
She still held old-fashioned ideas and hated it most when people "overstepped their bounds" and did things behind her back.
So she was very displeased too.
Julia's expression stiffened.
But she quickly came up with an excuse..
"I bought this at a jewelry store. I don't know much about jewelry and got scammed! They actually sold me a defective product!"
She portrayed herself as a victim too, and downplayed the issue, ignoring the "powder" problem.
Then she was about to have the servants clean up the broken bracelet on the floor.
"Wait!"
Amelia gave Byron a look.
Byron immediately stepped forward, crouched down, rubbed the powder between his fingers, and then said, "This is Frostbane Powder."
He then explained to everyone what Frostbane Powder was.
Madeline's expression grew even darker.
"Julia, have you lost your mind?"
Julia shook her head in denial, her face pale. "I didn't know. I didn't know there was this Frostbane Powder in the bracelet. I've never even heard of it!"
But her denial was hollow and unconvincing.
Lucy was completely stunned.
She had realized that Julia wanted to use this bracelet to control Amelia, but now she had ruined Julia's plan.
She was so scared she didn't know what to do, just standing there in a daze.
Amelia said expressionlessly, "Grandmother, this matter concerns my own life and safety, so I'm afraid it can't be handled like Harper's situation, with you helping to deal with it."
Madeline frowned.
"We're all family. There's no need to make this so ugly. I'll apologize to you on her behalf first."
"An apology is definitely necessary, but besides an apology, I also want justice. The kind of justice only the law can provide."
Julia's legs trembled.
Amelia was going to call the police!
Madeline's expression grew even darker.
Once the police were called, the Wood family would lose face.
"What do you want? Or rather, how do you want me to punish her?"
Amelia looked troubled.
"Grandmother, this isn't a small matter."
"I know it's not a small matter, but if something happens to Julia, the whole family will be disgraced. Just consider it for the sake of my reputation in my old age!"
Amelia paused before saying, "When my mom left, she didn't take anything with her. I want you to return what should have belonged to her."
"What things?"
"I'm not asking for my mother's shares in the company," Amelia said. "But she once mentioned that the family owns an office building. Give that office building to her, and we'll consider this matter settled."
