Chapter 276: Kill Him
On the other side, Amelia and Samuel were already in the car, heading to the hospital.
Jeremy was driving, and he reported the situation to Samuel.
"Stanley woke up once around ten this morning, but he was only awake for a few minutes before falling asleep again."
Samuel glanced at Amelia, who said, "That's normal. And he's recovering better than I expected. Give it another day, and he should be fully awake."
Samuel nodded, then continued with Jeremy, "Did he say anything during those few minutes he was awake?"
Jeremy shook his head.
"Not that I know of. Plus, he still had the breathing tube in his mouth, so even if he tried to say something, our people couldn't make it out."
Samuel acknowledged this.
Jeremy continued, "I had York go ahead. Right before you got in the car, York called me saying there are lots of reporters at the hospital entrance. Should we switch to a different car?"
Something less conspicuous.
Samuel said, "No need. We want them to see us going in and out of the hospital, just don't let them crowd us."
"Yes, sir."
......
At the airport.
Zachary had been detained at a nearby hotel for quite a while now.
He couldn't leave, but fortunately Samuel's people were too "careless" and hadn't confiscated his phone.
That gave him the chance to have his subordinates stir up public opinion.
He'd thought that once public opinion turned, Samuel would be forced to release him, but how long had it been? Aside from the people who brought meals daily and the bodyguards at the door, he hadn't seen anyone else.
He wanted to continue stirring up public opinion, but his phone had died.
And there were no chargers left in the room, so he could only worry helplessly.
Finally, at noon that day, when someone came to deliver food again, he kicked the meal cart over.
"Tell Samuel to come here! I want to see him!"
However, the person delivering food was dressed like a hotel server, and seeing Zachary "lose it," they weren't frightened at all. Instead, they looked at him coldly.
"Mr. Crawford, this is your lunch. Since you've knocked it over, your next meal won't be until dinner time. Also, we don't have cleaning staff here, so please dispose of the trash yourself. I'll come collect the garbage when I bring dinner."
With that, they turned and walked straight out.
Zachary tried to chase after them, but the door had already closed.
"Damn it! You people are all damned! Tell Samuel to come here! He's kidnapping me, this is illegal!"
But his voice carried outside with no response from anyone.
This hotel was under the Crawford Group, but it hadn't officially opened for business yet.
The building was empty except for the bodyguards responsible for watching Zachary and his subordinates.
News of Zachary knocking over his lunch quickly reached Samuel's ears.
"If he knocked it over, then don't give him any more. Cherish food - even children understand that principle."
"Yes, that's what they arranged over there too," Jeremy said.
As they spoke, Samuel had arrived at the ICU entrance.
Amelia went to the doctor's office to ask about the specific situation, so he came over to wait first.
Through the glass, he didn't know if it was his imagination, but he felt like the white hair at Stanley's temples seemed to have increased.
His eyes lowered slightly, as if murmuring, "You better not die."
He was still waiting for him to see Zachary's true face.
Back then, Zachary's birth mother had insisted that the entire identity swap was her doing alone, but a deeper investigation would reveal that Zachary had long known his own identity.
But Stanley hadn't continued investigating.
After sending that woman to a psychiatric hospital, he'd directly sent Zachary abroad.
All of this showed that the person Stanley loved most in his heart was still Zachary.
He always believed that the Zachary he'd personally raised was a person of good character.
Samuel didn't know if it was their deep father-son bond, or if Stanley was just too arrogant.
Thinking that whatever he raised must be good.
Samuel slowly clenched his fists, veins bulging on his arms.
But his suit sleeves covered it all.
Before long, Amelia came over.
"All the data is normal. If nothing unexpected happens, he should wake up tomorrow."
"Good."
Samuel nodded and said, "Let's go see him."
Amelia knew the "him" he meant was Zachary.
She'd had two chance encounters with Zachary before. His eyes looked a lot like Stanley's.
She didn't really like Stanley's eyes, and she had no good feelings toward Zachary either.
This had nothing to do with her being with Samuel.
Even before that, she'd quite disliked Zachary.
The man's head was full of schemes - he was an extreme egoist.
Samuel's eyes, on the other hand, seemed more like his deceased birth mother's.
......
An hour later, the car pulled into the underground garage of the hotel where Zachary was staying.
The person in charge had been waiting there.
Seeing the two arrive, he greeted them respectfully and said, "He tried to jump out the window, but we discovered it and stopped him."
Surveillance cameras had been installed in the hotel room beforehand.
Zachary didn't know.
Amelia said, "Looks like he's getting a bit impatient waiting."
"Not just him, I'm getting impatient too."
Unfortunately, until Stanley woke up, this show couldn't go on.
"Let's go." Amelia took Samuel's hand, and they went upstairs together.
Zachary was on the third floor, which was why he'd dared to risk jumping out the window.
They soon reached the third floor, and a bodyguard opened the door for them.
A stick suddenly swung down from inside, heading straight for Amelia who was standing further forward.
Amelia was about to dodge when Samuel's hand had already caught the stick.
He shoved it hard, and the person inside fell to the ground with a pained sound.
"Zachary, that's quite a fresh welcome ceremony you've got there." Samuel spoke expressionlessly.
Zachary glared viciously at Samuel.
"Let me out! Otherwise the media and the government won't let you off!"
Samuel raised an eyebrow and said, "Are you threatening me? Looks like you still don't understand your situation. Before you can get me, I'll kill you first."
"You wouldn't dare!"
"What makes you think I wouldn't dare?"
"If you really killed me, have you thought about the consequences?"
"Dead men don't talk. Who would know you were killed by me?"
"I've already released the news that you're holding me prisoner! If I don't show up for a long time, people outside will definitely suspect you!"
"So what if they suspect me? Zachary, you seem to have forgotten that I'm the one in control of the Crawford Group now. Even if they suspect me, can they really arrest me for questioning?"
Zachary was about to speak when he suddenly caught sight of Amelia beside Samuel.
He frowned in confusion.
"How is it you?"
Amelia said with a half-smile, "Zachary, long time no see."
"I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Samuel's fiancée, Amelia."
Fiancée, Amelia.
These key words immediately made Zachary connect her identity.
"You're the Richardson family daughter who had the marriage arrangement with our Crawford family?"
"That's right."
"But you - aren't you from the Shadow Operations Division?"
Amelia didn't speak, just raised an eyebrow.
Zachary immediately understood.
So the Richardson family's daughter who'd been missing for years was actually the Miracle Physician from the Shadow Operations Division.
Once, a business partner had fallen suddenly ill during contract negotiations. He'd found several doctors who couldn't help, so following someone's recommendation, he'd paid a hefty sum to bring in Amelia.
But at the time, he hadn't known Amelia was the Richardson family's daughter.
Back then, he'd even extended an olive branch to her, but Amelia had refused.
He thought, if the secret of his background hadn't been discovered, Amelia should have been his fiancée.
Thinking this, his gaze toward Amelia changed slightly.
Samuel keenly sensed it.
A cold gleam appeared in his eyes as he stepped forward two paces, blocking most of Amelia's body.
"I came here today to give you one last piece of advice, for the sake of our past brotherhood."
Zachary's attention returned to Samuel.
"What do you want to say?"
The look in his eyes toward Samuel carried suppressed contempt.
Even though he was now the illegitimate child, he still liked to look at Samuel this way.
As if Samuel were some kind of cockroach from the gutter, disgusting.
In the past, Samuel was easily angered by this look, but now, having people who truly valued him and whom he truly valued, he no longer lost his rationality over Zachary's gaze.
He knew he was someone who was loved too.
So what if there were one or two people who disliked him?
He wasn't a gold coin - he couldn't make everyone like him.
So ever since he'd figured this out, he was no longer provoked by Zachary's looks.
Samuel spoke calmly, "I'm planning to give you a chance to live."
Zachary frowned, "What do you mean?"
He was very displeased that Samuel dared to speak to him in this tone.
Thinking about it carefully, since their identities had switched, he hadn't talked face-to-face with Samuel.
Because he'd been sent away quickly at the time.
So now he was particularly annoyed that Samuel dared to speak to him this way.
In his perception, Samuel was still someone who had to give way to him in everything.
He heard Samuel say, "Within two days, if you promise not to pull any tricks and obediently go abroad, and never set foot on Phoenicia's soil again, then I'll spare your life. I'll also continue to send you living expenses according to the amount Dad originally gave you, on time."
"You want to force me to leave?"
"I'm not forcing you, I'm letting you choose. Live and leave, or die here."
Zachary clenched his fists tightly.
"I came back to visit the sick. I absolutely won't leave without seeing Dad."
Samuel smiled slightly.
"Looks like you've made your choice?"
Zachary stared at him without speaking.
He was betting that Samuel wouldn't really dare kill him.
He was just trying to scare him.
After all, he was a living human being, and his identity was extremely unusual.
If he died, Samuel would be the prime suspect.
So Samuel wouldn't dare kill him!
However, in the next instant, Samuel turned to Amelia and said, "Kill him, but don't let him suffer too much. After all, he was my brother."
