Chapter 248: Kidnapping
In that moment, Evelyn lost all her composure and rushed over in just a few steps, spreading her arms wide to block the car.
Both bodyguards were startled by her sudden action. By the time they reacted, the car had stopped just 2 inches away from Evelyn.
The two bodyguards immediately breathed a sigh of relief and ran over.
"Ms. Russell, are you alright?"
Evelyn raised her hand, signaling them to step back.
Her face was calm, showing no fear at all, because she knew Samuel's driving skills.
Besides, Samuel would never hurt her.
A faint smile even appeared on Evelyn's face.
She walked to the driver's side and knocked on the window.
She didn't want to do something as cheap as blocking a car.
But for nearly a month now, Samuel wouldn't answer her calls or agree to see her.
She was afraid that Samuel had been influenced by Amelia and was really starting to dislike her.
However, the next second, the window rolled down, revealing a face so beautiful it seemed almost unreal.
Her skin was smooth and flawless.
—It was Amelia.
Evelyn was shocked, her eyes wide open.
She had never imagined that the driver would be Amelia.
Thinking that Amelia might have just taken the opportunity to run her over, she felt a chill run down her spine, and her hair stood on end.
"Why are you in the driver's seat?" she blurted out. "This is Samuel's car!"
Amelia looked at Evelyn with a half-smile.
"I'm driving my fiancé's car—is that illegal? On the other hand, Ms. Russell, what are you trying to do by blocking my fiancé's car so desperately? If you want to seduce Samuel, you don't need to risk your life doing it."
"You!" Evelyn was so angry her neck turned red.
No one had talked back to her like this before..
Rage surged through her, and she stopped caring about dignity.
"Pull her out and break one of her legs!"
The two bodyguards looked over hesitantly but didn't dare approach.
Amelia's smile deepened.
"Ms. Russell, this isn't the Russell family's territory. I suggest you watch what you say. Always being so clueless about the situation—no wonder you got thrown out of that press conference last time."
Having that embarrassing incident brought up again, Evelyn's face twisted with anger.
She reached through the window, trying to grab Amelia's neck.
But Amelia had prepared in advance and closed the window directly.
The window shut suddenly, and Evelyn hurriedly pulled her hand back, but it still got caught, leaving a blue mark that quickly turned red and stinging.
"Amelia, you!"
Before she could curse, Amelia had already stepped on the gas and drove toward the gate of Rosevale Manor.
The gate automatically recognized the license plate and let Amelia's car through. Someone came out from inside, looking unfriendly, and said to Evelyn, "Who are you? What are you doing hanging around here? Are you trying to steal something!"
Evelyn's face changed drastically.
"Me, steal? Do you know who I am?"
"I don't care who you are. If you don't leave, I'm calling the police."
Evelyn stood there, her face dark with anger.
But seeing the person actually about to take out their phone to call the police, she said furiously, "Fine, I'll leave! You jerk, I'll remember you!"
Just as she was about to leave, another car drove up.
Because the window was open, Evelyn easily saw who was sitting in the driver's seat.
"York!"
Her voice was full of excitement.
She couldn't reach Samuel, so she wanted to contact York and Jeremy, but those two seemed to have disappeared too—she couldn't reach them at all.
Now seeing York, she was naturally excited.
Of the two close associates by Samuel's side, Jeremy has an ordinary relationship with her, but York was quite familiar with her.
But when York saw her, he frowned, and then he stepped on the gas and drove away.
Evelyn stood there in a daze.
She didn't understand—what was wrong with York?
Never mind Samuel, York shouldn't have treated her like this.
She even felt that York used to like her.
But just now when York saw her, there was a flash of disgust in his eyes.
She panicked.
If even York was like this, what about Samuel?
They must have all believed whatever lies Amelia told them.
That damn bitch!
She had to find a way to deal with Amelia!
Just then, the person from Rosevale Manor spoke again, "Still not leaving?"
Evelyn glared fiercely at the person, then turned and left with her subordinates.
"Going straight home, Ms. Russell?"
"To the hospital!"
Her hand had been caught by the window and hurt a bit. She'd probably injured the tendons and bones and needed hot compresses to prevent bruising.
She had just moved and hadn't prepared these things at home yet.
Her two subordinates acknowledged and quickly drove to the hospital.
On the way, Evelyn was very annoyed, constantly thinking about how to deal with Amelia.
But her two subordinates' words helped her calm down.
"Rather than doing it yourself, why not tell Stanley? Won't it be better to let him handle it?"
Evelyn hesitated.
Stanley didn't really like her either.
The reason he agreed to let her enter the Crawford family later was because she promised him she could find that Miracle Physician from the Shadow Operations Division to treat his illness.
Stanley wanted nothing else now, only to stay alive.
She had seen this clearly, which was why Stanley's attitude toward her had improved.
"Don't tell him yet," Evelyn said. "Our priority is to find that Miracle Physician."
Her two subordinates, seeing her calm down, were very relieved.
"Good that you understand what's important."
So Evelyn stopped trying to run into Samuel and focused entirely on searching for traces of the Miracle Physician.
Only by finding that person could she bring the Miracle Physician to "negotiate" with Stanley.
On Evelyn's side, things temporarily calmed down.
On the other side, after Amelia drove into Rosevale Manor, York followed closely behind.
He had gone out to handle another matter for Samuel.
A project in another city had stalled. He went to investigate personally and discovered that the project manager was one of Zachary's people.
He fired the manager and everyone under him, from top to bottom.
Stanley would probably receive the news soon. He rushed back to give Samuel a heads-up.
But he didn't expect to run into Evelyn at the gate.
He had indeed liked Evelyn before.
But after learning that Evelyn liked Samuel, he immediately abandoned that thought.
Samuel had given him a second chance at life—he wouldn't compete with Samuel for a woman.
But in his heart, he still had feelings for Evelyn that were different from other women.
Until half a month ago, when Samuel told him that Evelyn had deliberately approached him back then.
At that time, Evelyn already knew Samuel's identity but kept it hidden.
And she was also close to Zachary at that time.
In other words, Evelyn was playing both sides.
After learning this, York felt like he'd been blind.
To him, Samuel came first—even he himself had to take a back seat, let alone Evelyn.
So when he encountered Evelyn, a flash of disgust crossed his eyes.
He felt that Evelyn now was completely different from before.
"York!"
York was slightly lost in thought because of Evelyn. Hearing Amelia's voice, he quickly got out of the car.
"Ms. Richardson, what are you doing here? Where's Mr. Crawford? You were driving that car just now?"
He had seen that car ahead and thought Samuel was driving it, so he followed.
Amelia said, "He's at the company."
York immediately said, "Then I'll go to the company to find Mr. Crawford."
"No need, he's on his way back. He should be here in about half an hour."
"Yes."
York's matter wasn't exactly urgent, but it couldn't be explained clearly over the phone, so he might as well wait for Samuel to return.
Just as he was about to invite Amelia into the living room, he saw Amelia walk back to the sports car and open the trunk.
A man with his hands and feet bound rolled straight out of the trunk onto the ground with a dull thud.
York's eyes widened in shock.
"This—this is?"
Amelia smiled sweetly, "You must have just run into Evelyn. This is one of her people."
She and Samuel had been investigating Evelyn for nearly a month and a half but still hadn't found out what deal Evelyn had made with Stanley.
She had run out of patience.
On Maeve's side, things were getting harder to hide.
No matter how strict the management, someone would always leak information.
So she took the initiative.
She didn't want to touch Stanley's close associates, and it wasn't convenient to do so, so she simply targeted Evelyn's side.
She had Louis check Evelyn's movements and learned that Evelyn had recently moved to this area and often "wandered" near Rosevale Manor around the time Samuel got off work.
She timed it perfectly, asked Samuel for his car, and drove it over.
Evelyn had some cunning but no real wisdom. She was easily provoked, which led to her reaching through the car window to hit Amelia.
Amelia had already kidnapped the only bodyguard left at Evelyn's new home, then took the opportunity to injure Evelyn's hand.
Going to the hospital for treatment, plus the round trip, would take at least two hours.
If that wasn't enough time, Louis and Byron would arrange some small incidents to delay Evelyn's return home even more.
This way, she had plenty of time to interrogate Evelyn's subordinate.
Amelia said to the surprised York, "I heard from Jeremy that you're very good at interrogation. Is two hours enough? I need to know what agreement Evelyn made with Stanley."
York knew about this matter—Samuel had even gotten angry about it.
He quickly understood Amelia's plan and also realized why Amelia was driving Samuel's usual car.
He said, "Two hours isn't necessary. Half an hour is enough."
"Good."
York took the man away.
Half an hour later, Samuel happened to return home.
His car had been driven away from the company by Amelia, so Jeremy brought him back.
The evening sky was filled with sunset clouds. Samuel wore a black and white striped shirt.
He was already tall with long legs, broad shoulders and a narrow waist—perfect for suits. In the glow of the setting sun, he looked even more handsome.
Amelia thought she'd still gotten a good deal.
Although she hadn't fully recovered her memories of Crystal Springs Resort, she thought that the situation back then probably wasn't too bad.
Now, even the shadow of that incident was gradually fading.
"You're back."
Just a simple sentence, but it made Samuel feel inexplicably settled.
