Chapter 180 Will You Let Them Die?
Amelia immediately noticed the change in Maeve's expression.
She knew Maeve was a very conflicted person, so she didn't call her out on it and just walked straight toward her.
Maeve pulled a sour face and asked, "Why are you so late?"
Amelia didn't mind her attitude and said, "I prepared a gift for you at the last minute, so I got here a bit late. But I'm only ten minutes late, don't be so mad."
Maeve wasn't actually angry.
She cleared her throat and said, "Fine, I won't hold it against you. Come in, the food's already here."
Amelia nodded and took her seat.
Since the incident outside the bar last time, Maeve now brings bodyguards whenever she goes out.
Two bodyguards closed the partition door for them so they could talk privately.
Amelia said, "No rush, let's finish the important stuff first. What did the people you sent to the countryside find out?"
At the mention of this, Maeve's face darkened.
She asked Amelia, "Do you mind if I smoke?"
Amelia nodded.
So she lit a cigarette, took a drag, and said, "I found out he has a child bride back in the countryside. The girl's name is Amelia."
Amelia's expression didn't change at all.
Maeve glanced at her, thinking her reaction was too calm, and continued, "But they said his child bride died in a fire."
Amelia smiled slightly and said, "Yeah, that girl died in the fire."
Maeve didn't have that much patience and asked directly, "Is that Amelia you?"
"It's me. The old me."
"Then why did they say you died in the fire?"
Amelia smiled and said, "Because I escaped."
"Then why didn't you call the police?"
"Because I burned to death the people who kidnapped me."
Maeve was shocked.
"You..."
"Piper... Isaac's mom. She tricked me into going back, drugged me, and sold me to someone else for thirty thousand dollars."
Maeve frowned deeply.
"Why? They bought you back, so why did they sell you again?"
Amelia gave Maeve a meaningful look.
Maeve's face turned pale.
She understood.
It was because Isaac had latched onto her, so they had to sell Amelia.
Maeve's hand gripping the coffee cup tightened until her knuckles turned white.
"He's such a bastard! I used to think his only flaw was being poor, and since I have money, I didn't think poverty was a flaw, so I told my parents I wanted to marry him. I never thought he was such a bastard!"
Amelia listened quietly.
Maeve cursed for a while, then noticed Amelia hadn't said a word and found it strange.
"Don't you hate him?"
"I do."
"Then why aren't you cursing him?"
"Isn't cursing tiring?"
It was a bit tiring—her mouth was already dry.
Maeve picked up her coffee and gulped down more than half the cup.
Only then did Amelia take out the gift.
It was something she had asked Shadow Operations Division to investigate long ago.
She took out a document and handed it to Maeve.
"What is this?"
"You'll know when you look. But I suggest you eat something first, so you won't be too angry to eat."
"It won't be that bad!"
Maeve said while opening the document.
A moment later, her face flushed red with anger.
"Isaac! I'm going to kill him!"
Maeve got together with Isaac because she had just experienced her ex-boyfriend cheating on her, and she had caught them in bed herself.
And that's when Isaac appeared.
His gentleness, his thoughtfulness and care in every way, plus his resemblance to her ex-boyfriend, won her over.
Moreover, Isaac didn't know she was the eldest daughter of the Sullivan family—he thought she was just an ordinary person.
She fell in love with him right away.
Maeve considered herself a very willful person. All three of her previous boyfriends had broken up with her because they couldn't stand her temper.
Only Isaac never minded her temper.
He truly treated her like a princess.
So Maeve thought there would never be another man who loved her more.
That's why she insisted on being with Isaac despite her family's objections.
But she never expected it was all fake.
The document Amelia gave her showed that catching her ex-boyfriend cheating wasn't an accident—it was Isaac's deliberate plan.
Isaac wasn't unaware of Maeve's identity. In fact, he had investigated her thoroughly.
From the beginning, he wanted to climb up through Maeve.
After investigating Maeve, Isaac deliberately got close to her ex-boyfriend, got him drunk, hired a prostitute, and made them sleep together.
He also deliberately had someone lead Maeve to catch them.
After that, everything went according to his plan.
Maeve was shaking all over, wishing she could kill Isaac right now.
Amelia gently held her hand.
The cool touch was like a bucket of water, gradually putting out her fire.
Maeve started crying.
"I may have a bad temper, but I was sincere with him."
"I didn't need any wedding gifts to marry him. My only condition was that he couldn't bring his mother."
"But that condition came from my mom. She said the only way our family would accept Isaac was if he agreed to marry into our family..."
"He agreed without hesitation. Told me he didn't care about marrying into our family as long as we could be together."
"I felt even more guilty toward him and fought hard for him. That's why we haven't talked about the wedding until now..."
Maeve thought she had already done so much for Isaac.
"But I really didn't expect it to be all calculated."
Amelia said, "Men are all the same, especially social climbers. He told you he'd marry into your family, but deep down, he never meant it. Look, he's already trying to worm his way into your family for the benefits. He even brought his mother to Goldenvale."
Maeve: "His mom? You mean... that day I went to his place, that new maid was his mother?"
Amelia had Maeve describe her appearance.
After hearing it, she nodded confidently, "That's right, it's her."
Maeve sneered and said, "She's really patient. I treated her like a servant, and she didn't explain at all."
Amelia said, "Because her son hasn't married you yet. Once he does, she'll have a thousand ways to get back at you, so of course she doesn't care about being stepped on this once."
Maeve broke out in a cold sweat.
She didn't dare think about it.
If Amelia hadn't reminded her and she had actually investigated, what would have happened to her?
If she really married Isaac, she would be doomed forever.
But Amelia picked up her utensils.
"We're done talking. Let's eat."
Maeve frowned at her.
"At a time like this, you still have the mood to eat?"
Amelia shrugged and said, "Who just said it wouldn't be bad enough to lose your appetite?"
Maeve was speechless.
Amelia continued, "Let's eat first. After we're done, I'll tell you how to deal with them."
Maeve's eyes lit up, and she picked up her utensils.
After a few bites, Maeve asked, "Hey, are we friends or enemies now?"
Amelia said, "I don't know, but my friends don't call me 'Hey.'"
Maeve's face darkened.
"I've noticed you really don't let anyone get the better of you."
Amelia smiled slightly and said, "Neither do you. It was clearly medicine to save your grandfather, but you had to compete with me for it. Who buys it doesn't matter, right?"
Bringing up the past, she wanted to resolve that day's conflict completely.
Maeve understood too.
She pouted and said, "I didn't know you were also buying it for my grandfather. If I had known, I definitely would have sent a car to pick you up."
Then she changed her tone and said, "But you were really something that day. Do you know how annoying you were?"
Amelia shrugged.
Maeve sighed and said, "I wanted to kill you before, but now you're my benefactor. What kind of situation is this?"
"A good one. Having one more friend is always better than having one more enemy."
"Didn't you say I wasn't your friend? That your friends don't call you 'hey.'"
"You really don't let anyone get the better of you either."
The two suddenly looked at each other, and both laughed.
Just then, the bodyguard standing outside came in.
"Ms. Sullivan, someone had a waiter send over some dishes..."
The bodyguard said, holding up a tray.
Amelia became alert.
"Did they say who sent them?"
"No, just said it was from a gentleman in a private room in the back."
Amelia said, "We don't want things from unknown sources. Have that waiter send them back."
The bodyguard looked at Maeve.
Maeve nodded as well, so the bodyguard took the tray back out.
Maeve glanced at her and said, "Want to go see who sent them?"
"Better to avoid trouble than seek it. Nothing worth seeing."
"You really have zero curiosity."
"Curiosity killed the cat. Haven't you heard that saying?"
Maeve instinctively wanted to argue back, but felt Amelia had a point and forced herself to swallow her words.
She put down her utensils and said, "I can't eat anymore. Just tell me what I need to do to get revenge."
Amelia couldn't eat either.
She didn't like eating raw things.
She already didn't like seafood, and Natalie had forced her to eat a lot of it. Now just seeing fish or shellfish made her nauseous.
"It's simple," she said. "Whatever they want, you make them lose it."
"You mean just break up with him?"
"Exactly."
"Isn't that punishment too light?"
"That's what you need to do. After you break up with him, leave the rest to me."
"What are you going to do?"
"You don't need to know that."
Maeve paused for a moment and asked, "Will you kill them?"
Amelia looked at her.
"What? Can't bear to let him go?"
"How could that be! My people already checked—everyone in Isaac's whole village is a human trafficker. Human traffickers deserve to die! I'm just curious how you're going to kill them."
"Curiosity kills the cat."
"You really..."
But just then, voices came from outside again.
"Sir, you can't go in..."
"Don't worry, we're friends."
It was noisy outside, and the two inside couldn't eat anymore either.
Maeve said, "Who's out there? Bring them in!"
The door was pulled open at that moment.
The person who appeared surprised them both.
