Chapter 160 Unfortunate, Because of Amelia
Natalie's eyes were full of surprise.
"How did you come down so fast? Can't you treat that patient?"
Amelia shook her head gently.
"No, I just don't want to."
Natalie wasn't one to pry, especially in public.
She stayed silent, stood up, and left with Amelia.
But just as they walked out the door, they ran into Scarlett, who had caught up with them.
Amelia frowned, and before she could say anything, Natalie, beside her, rushed forward with delight.
"Lettie, is that you?"
Lettie was Scarlett's nickname.
Scarlett looked at Natalie in confusion, then at Amelia.
And Amelia had the same confused expression on her face.
"You two are...?"
Natalie held Amelia's hand and introduced her proudly: "She's my daughter, my biological daughter."
Scarlett's expression as she looked at Amelia became even more incredulous.
But upon closer inspection, Amelia and Natalie's eyes did look very similar.
The same big eyes, both clear as water, except Amelia's gaze was colder.
"I never thought... Ms. Richardson would be your long-lost daughter." Scarlett quickly found her voice and said with a smile: "Congratulations, Mrs. Richardson."
Natalie nodded with a smile, then introduced. "Lettie's mother and I used to be classmates. Our two families have a very good relationship."
Amelia understood.
So she was the daughter of an old friend.
The world was ridiculously small.
Small enough to be annoying.
Natalie asked Scarlett again: "Who's sick this time...?"
"It's my grandfather."
"What's wrong with your grandfather?"
Scarlett sighed and said, "He has paralysis. And other problems too. With all these issues combined, he's awake less and less. Until Roman recommended Ms. Richardson to us..."
At this point, Scarlett gave Amelia a complicated look.
Natalie sighed.
"When people get old, they do have many problems. But your grandfather is a lucky man; he'll definitely pull through."
"Thank you, Mrs. Richardson."
Scarlett said, then looked at Amelia and asked, "Ms. Richardson, can I talk to you alone for a moment?"
Amelia slowly clenched her fingers.
Of course, she didn't want to.
But Natalie knew Scarlett.
She was silent for two seconds, then finally said: "Let's talk inside."
If Scarlett dared to talk to her, why shouldn't she talk to Scarlett?
"Thank you, Ms. Richardson."
Scarlett thanked her and went in first.
She could tell Amelia still had questions for Natalie.
After Scarlett entered the theater, Amelia spoke: "Mom, you lost touch with the Wood family long ago. Are you still... close with the Lewis family now?"
Natalie said: "I'm not that close with the Lewis family... But about our family's relationship with the Porter family, I already told you last time at the Hagen family. Micah and your father are ride-or-die friends."
Amelia asked: "You mean the Lewis family and the Porter family have a good relationship?"
Natalie nodded.
"Exactly. Although Scarlett's grandfather has retired, many of his people are still working in Thornfield. Out of respect for Scarlett's grandfather, they'll all choose to help Micah."
Amelia continued: "So if Scarlett's grandfather dies... those people might not continue their current allegiance?"
"That's right."
Natalie paused and asked her: "Amelia, have you and Lettie... had any conflict? I can tell from how you look at her that something's wrong."
Amelia instinctively shook her head.
"No conflict."
Natalie frowned: "You're not telling me the truth."
Amelia had to tell the truth: "Her husband is my ex-boyfriend."
Natalie's eyes suddenly widened.
She thought at most it was some small conflict between two young women, but she didn't expect a third person to be involved.
"They..."
"That ex-boyfriend of mine cheated on me while we were together, and finally chose to break up with me and be with her."
No wonder.
She had never seen Amelia look at someone with such cold eyes.
Two seconds later, Natalie suddenly grabbed Amelia's hand.
Amelia thought Natalie would ask her to put aside personal feelings for the bigger picture and treat Scarlett's grandfather.
She had already decided that, for the bigger picture, she would temporarily suppress these past events.
But unexpectedly, Natalie said, "Amelia, if you don't want to treat him, then let's go home."
Amelia looked up in surprise.
She heard Natalie continue: "This was originally a matter between us elders. I never wanted to involve you. You've already helped me win over the Hagen family, and Micah knows about this and is very grateful to you. As for the rest, you don't need to worry about it. So if you don't want to treat him, you can refuse."
Natalie's words were like feathers, gently brushing over Amelia's painful places.
Those painful places seemed wrapped in tenderness and didn't hurt so much anymore.
"Mom."
Amelia spoke: "Maybe I should just let the past be the past. Always avoiding it is cowardly behavior. Besides, Scarlett and Finn are the ones who wronged me, not Scarlett's grandfather."
Tears glimmered in Natalie's eyes.
"Amelia, Mom still says the same thing - nothing is more important than you. Your father thinks the same way. So you don't need to make things difficult for yourself for our sake."
Amelia had already made her decision.
"Mom, I'm not making things difficult. I'll treat Scarlett's grandfather."
She should completely let go of Finn.
Actually, letting go wasn't that hard.
It would just hurt a little.
After the pain, everything would be fine.
"Are you really okay with this?" Natalie asked with concern.
"No problem."
"Alright." Natalie nodded: "Then I'll wait for you in the living room."
"Okay."
Amelia agreed, turned around, and entered the theater.
Inside, Scarlett was waiting quietly.
Of course, the quiet was only on the surface - her heart was in turmoil.
She really hadn't expected that her grandfather's life would one day depend on a woman she used to look down on.
But she had already decided that today, even if she had to kneel and apologize to Amelia, she would beg her to treat her grandfather.
She was raised by her grandfather, and their deep bond was one thing, but another thing was that if her grandfather died, Finn might divorce her.
This was the last thing she wanted to see.
Just then, Scarlett heard footsteps approaching.
She turned her head and saw Amelia.
Compared to before, Amelia was even more beautiful.
She prided herself on being a great beauty, but beauty was relative.
She couldn't deny that Amelia was more beautiful than her.
Because it was a fact that anyone with eyes could see.
Scarlett suppressed the bitterness in her heart and was about to speak when Amelia spoke first.
"I can treat your grandfather."
Scarlett was obviously stunned, looking at her in disbelief.
Amelia continued: "But I have one condition."
Scarlett's hands, hanging at her sides, slowly clenched.
She said: "I can agree to any other condition. But if you want me to leave Finn, that's impossible. We're already married."
Amelia laughed mockingly.
"Do you think I'd pick up a rotten apple and eat it?"
Scarlett frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"Rotten apples, rotten men - I don't want them anymore."
Scarlett felt very uncomfortable.
Because Amelia was insulting her man.
And by extension, insulting her too.
She took a deep breath, suppressed the hostility in her eyes, and asked: "If it's not about us breaking up, then what's your condition?"
"It's simple. While I'm treating your grandfather, I don't want to see you or Finn. You two must not appear in front of me, not even for a second."
Scarlett's eyes showed obvious surprise.
"That's it?"
"That's it."
She bit her lower lip, feeling inexplicably annoyed.
Actually, if Amelia had really asked her to leave Finn, she wouldn't have agreed, but she would have felt more comfortable inside.
In the year since marrying Finn, she'd been both happy and miserable.
The misery came from Amelia.
So if she could see that Amelia was also still suffering from the pain this relationship brought, she would feel a bit better.
But no.
Amelia appeared very calm, showing no sign of sadness, just disgust toward the two of them.
But since she was asking for help, she didn't show any of this.
"No problem. I'll stay at the hotel for a few days and won't appear at the Sullivan manor. As for Finn, don't worry, he didn't come to Goldenvale."
"Then leave now. I'll go upstairs to examine him."
Scarlett opened her mouth, wanting to say many things, but in the end swallowed them all back.
She couldn't say them.
For the sake of her current happiness, she couldn't say anything.
"Then I'll leave him in your care."
Leaving these words behind, Scarlett left.
And Amelia went back upstairs.
Bobby was happy to see her return.
"Ms. Richardson, you..."
"No need to say more. I'll treat him."
With that, Amelia came to the bedside and began examining Scarlett's grandfather.
His condition was very tricky.
She could tell that if he hadn't been brought to her in time, given his current condition, they should be preparing a funeral within the week.
Besides his underlying conditions and paralysis, Scarlett's grandfather also had a very difficult toxin in his body.
It was this toxin that kept him in a prolonged state of sleep.
Once the toxin was cleared, the other illnesses could be slowly treated.
The paralysis could also be gradually recovered through acupuncture.
"How is it, Ms. Richardson?" Seeing her stand up, Bobby immediately approached, and Steven's eyes were also locked on her.
Amelia turned to Bobby and said, "I can treat him, but I need to prepare herbs first. Give me one day. I'll come back the day after tomorrow. For these two days, I'll write a prescription first. He should take the medicine for two days."
"Yes..." Bobby trusted Amelia's medical skills greatly and immediately told Steven to get a pen and paper.
Soon Amelia finished writing the prescription and told Bobby to send someone to fill it.
"Twice a day, both after meals. Even if you have to force it down, make sure he takes the medicine." Amelia instructed.
Bobby quickly agreed.
After finishing this, Amelia went downstairs and left with Natalie.
But as she was leaving, she caught a glimpse in the car's side mirror of a figure quickly returning to the Sullivan manor.
It was Scarlett.
She had promised to stay at the hotel and not appear, but as soon as Amelia left, Scarlett went back in.
Was Scarlett really that worried about her grandfather, or did she have ulterior motives?
