Chapter 141 Mocking Them?
Hearing this, Jeremy gave him a sympathetic look.
At the same time, he felt glad that Samuel hadn't sent him along.
That Julie was spoiled, willful, arrogant, and rude. Whoever went with her would be unlucky.
Seeing York about to leave after cursing, he reminded him, "Don't let her meet Lucas. If you upset the Richardson family, Mr. Crawford won't let you off."
"No kidding, I know that."
He curled his lip and left.
Meanwhile.
After getting up, Amelia received a call from Geraldo.
"Geraldo, thanks to you, my foolish grandson finally saw Yasmin's true colors. Otherwise, he insisted on marrying only Yasmin. I might not have been able to hold out, and might have been forced to accept someone who nearly killed me as my grandson's wife."
Amelia's tone was calm.
"If it really came to that, forget about that grandson. Your daughter-in-law is still young; she could have another one."
Geraldo gave a bitter laugh and said, "Fortunately, it didn't come to that. He's willing to report it to the police with me."
Amelia reminded him, "Since you've reached an agreement, act quickly before she runs away."
"Okay, I'll call the police now."
Amelia hung up with Geraldo and called Byron.
"Have someone watch the Richardson family's adopted daughter. Don't let her leave Goldenvale."
"Yes."
Byron agreed, then brought up something else.
"Yesterday, Lyndon from Iron Fist Mafia came to see me, saying he could help us build the underground office area together. Can we trust this person?"
"Yes, we can."
Byron acknowledged and was about to hang up when Amelia added, "Use whatever connections we have to help Leo get out of prison early."
"Leo is from Thornfield?"
"Okay."
"Got it."
The call ended. Amelia gazed into the distance with a calm look.
She hadn't interfered with Quinton's situation before because she was afraid her rash actions would mess up Natalie and the others' plans.
Now that she knew their general situation, she knew how to help.
She had been closely watching the conflict between the Porter family and the Hays family.
Those who had been trying to suppress the Shadow Operations Division, including people from the Young family, were all from the Hays family.
Unlike the Hays family, the Porter family maintained an attitude of not punishing the Shadow Operations Division as long as they didn't break the law.
If the Porter family won in the end, it would be good for the Shadow Operations Division.
Fortunately, she and the Richardson family were on the same side; otherwise, she really wouldn't know what to choose.
Leo was both stupid and bad. Letting him out would seem good for the Hays family on the surface, but the reality was unknown.
Leo would harm the Hays family.
She could use Leo to overthrow the seemingly powerful Hays family.
She was lost in thought about her plan when someone knocked on the door.
"Amelia?"
"Mom." Amelia came back to her senses and opened the door.
Seeing Natalie fully dressed, she knew where she was going, but still asked deliberately: "Are you going out?"
"Yes, to pick out a tenth birthday gift for a friend's child. If you're free, want to come with me?"
Amelia had been wondering what excuse to use to get Natalie to take her along. This made it easy.
She nodded: "Great, I was just feeling bored."
"Then get ready and change into clean clothes. I'll wait for you downstairs."
"Okay."
After Natalie left, Amelia didn't rush to change clothes. Instead, she called Byron.
"Find out who was transferred from Thornfield to Goldenvale to handle Quinton's case, what they like, and what their family likes. Tell me everything, and quickly."
"Yes."
After the call ended, Amelia began selecting clothes.
She knew Natalie's goal today was to test the other party's attitude, but for her, just testing wasn't enough.
She needed to get them on their side.
But this wouldn't be easy.
If they remained neutral, they would avoid getting too close to either side.
However, Amelia had already thought it through. If she couldn't win over the adults, she'd win over the child.
Then gradually work from there, step by step.
For a child's birthday, she didn't need to dress too fancy—simple and neat would be best.
So Amelia didn't pick a dress. Instead, she wore a white silk shirt with black straight-leg jeans.
The simple black-and-white outfit looked especially clean and elegant, making her already beautiful figure appear even more slender.
As for her hair, Amelia simply braided it in three strands along her head, letting it hang naturally in front to keep it from flying around.
No makeup needed—clean and natural was best.
Children didn't like adults who were too elaborately dressed; it made them feel distant.
Once dressed, Byron called back.
"The person you asked about is Frank Hagen, 43 years old. His wife is quite young, only 32, named Anna Hagen. They're very much in love and have a ten-year-old son named Adrian Hagen."
"Frank doesn't have many hobbies and doesn't like attending parties. When he's free, he likes staying home with his wife and child, and occasionally plays chess."
Amelia pondered.
No particular hobbies?
Then she'd have to work through his wife and child.
"What does his wife like?"
Byron said, "Anna really likes jewelry and owns two jewelry stores. As for Adrian, I can't find any particular hobbies yet. Should I send someone to investigate further?"
Amelia hummed and said, "No need, there's no time. This is enough. You go ahead with your work."
After hanging up, Amelia went downstairs.
Natalie had been waiting downstairs for a while and was about to go up when she saw Amelia coming down.
Looking up and seeing Amelia's clean, neat outfit, Natalie was very satisfied.
Her daughter had perfectly inherited the best qualities from her and her husband, growing up beautiful and elegant.
She was the product of their love.
Natalie took Amelia's hand, her tone as gentle as always: "Let's go."
When they arrived at the mall, Natalie led her purposefully to a jewelry store.
Inside were all kinds of jewelry and accessories, dazzling to the eye.
Natalie quickly chose a bracelet.
The bracelet was all diamonds, with two pink diamonds set at the clasp, worth over a million dollars.
Natalie held it up to compare, very satisfied.
She thought this bracelet was fashionable and expensive, fitting Anna's status.
Just as she was about to buy it, Amelia suddenly spoke: "Mom, didn't our family go bankrupt? If we buy such an expensive bracelet, what about our future expenses?"
Natalie's expression froze slightly.
The Richardson family wasn't actually short of money.
The bankruptcy was just a facade.
But in that instant, Natalie thought: what if she brought such an expensive bracelet as a gift and someone with ulterior motives noticed something odd about their family?
After all, a bankrupt family wouldn't easily be able to afford such an expensive bracelet.
Over a million dollars wasn't a small amount.
Amelia's words had timely reminded her.
Natalie felt a chill down her back. She had almost made a mistake that would have caused trouble for herself and that person.
She immediately put the bracelet back on the glass counter.
"Sorry, we won't take it."
The saleswoman had thought she was closing a big sale, but upon hearing this, her smile stiffened.
Just then, a familiar voice rang out.
"Natalie, can't even afford a bracelet now?"
Amelia and Natalie both turned toward the voice.
It was Felicity, whom they had met once before at the beauty salon.
Seeing Felicity, Natalie's expression soured.
She was about to leave when Felicity came up and enthusiastically grabbed her hand.
"You should have said something! If your family is this tight on money, I can lend you some. You like this bracelet, right? I'll give it to you as a gift. After all, our children used to date."
Then Felicity said to the saleswoman, "Wrap it up, I'll buy it for them."
"Yes, ma'am." The saleswoman's smile became bright again.
"No need."
Natalie said with a dark expression: "I don't like this bracelet, and I don't need you to pay for it."
Seeing Natalie's unhappy expression, Felicity's smile grew even more pleased.
"Why be so polite? It's just over a million dollars, nothing much. What else does your family need? I'll help you buy it all. Need food? There's a supermarket on the lower level. I'll help you buy some household items."
"You—" Natalie's face changed with anger.
Just as she was about to snap back, Amelia suddenly spoke: "Mrs. Young, I heard your nephew was injured. I wonder if he's better now?"
When Amelia mentioned Efrain, the smile on Felicity's face vanished instantly.
Efrain could never be better.
He had been ruined. Even though they saved his life in time, he could never have children.
When Efrain's father found out, the whole family stayed at their house and refused to leave.
They had no choice but to agree to support Efrain and give his father a large sum in compensation.
Efrain hadn't married Amelia and had lost his sexual function.
Efrain was at fault first, and he had injured many rich kids in Goldenvale.
Not only could they not call the police, but they also had to personally apologize.
Billy was so angry about this that he almost wanted a divorce.
After all, it was she who had encouraged Billy to agree to let Efrain approach Amelia and marry her.
Now that Amelia deliberately brought it up, how could she keep smiling?
But Amelia smiled cheerfully.
"Looks like he hasn't recovered yet. Mrs. Young, if you have time, you should take better care of him instead of shopping. I understand you feel you owe us something, but you should take care of your own family matters first."
These light, seemingly caring words were even more cutting than Felicity's earlier mockery.
Her face changed repeatedly, and she could barely stand steady.
Seeing this, Natalie looked at her in confusion, her eyes full of puzzlement.
She didn't know why Felicity would react so strongly to Amelia's concern about her nephew.
Felicity was almost faint with anger.
But although she didn't know the reason, Natalie felt quite pleased inside.
