Chapter 131 He Is Afraid
Amelia and Grant came home, but Holden didn't come back. They were still in Samuel's car.
Natalie saw clearly from the living room doorway.
So as soon as they walked in, she asked what had happened.
Amelia knew she couldn't hide it, so she mentioned the car accident on the road.
But she didn't say that she rushed over to save people and almost died.
Grant was smart enough not to mention it either.
No need to make Natalie worry for nothing - they were both fine anyway.
The TV was still playing weather news.
The weather station had been broadcasting about the typhoon disaster all day.
Amelia walked over and turned off the TV.
"Mom, you can't watch TV for too long, it's bad for your eyes. Let me help you upstairs to rest."
Natalie listened to her and nodded, "I'll take a nap."
Then she said to Grant, "Just because your stomach doesn't hurt anymore doesn't mean you should ignore your health. You go upstairs and lie down too. I had Uma make you chicken soup, drink it later."
Grant nodded.
After Amelia took Natalie back to her room, she returned to her own room.
She called Byron and asked him to investigate the car accident involving Mason's girlfriend.
She wanted to know the other person's identity.
As soon as she hung up, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
The door was quickly pushed open.
Amelia looked up, thinking it was Grant coming to chat, but it was Felix.
After half a month in the hospital, he looked much thinner.
Amelia's expression was neutral. "What is it?"
"I have something to say to you. Should I close the door?"
Amelia agreed.
Felix closed the door, then took out his phone and showed her a news article.
Amelia glanced at it.
It was about the car accident during the typhoon.
The news reported that Amelia and Samuel risked their lives to save people.
Fortunately, it was just a video from a passerby that didn't clearly show her and Samuel's faces.
But people who knew them could definitely recognize them.
The comments were full of praise.
Some netizens commented that she was brave, a hero.
"Is this person you?" Felix asked.
Amelia didn't deny it.
"It's me. What about it?"
Felix's expression changed.
"That was too dangerous! Wasn't Grant with you? Why didn't he stop you? What if you hadn't gotten out..."
He didn't dare think about it!
Amelia's expression remained calm.
"But I'm fine, aren't I?"
"But what if? Something that dangerous - next time you should stay away. Other people's lives have nothing to do with you. Don't put yourself in danger again."
Amelia looked at him deeply.
"When I went to Combat Arts Hall, it was equally dangerous. But if I hadn't gone, you'd already be a box of ashes."
Felix's back stiffened.
He knew Amelia was telling the truth.
He thought about what he'd just said - "Other people's lives have nothing to do with you."
His face immediately became awkward, and he touched his nose uncomfortably.
Amelia said, "Don't say things like that anymore. I know whether something is dangerous or not."
She had felt she had enough time, which was why she continued pulling people out.
If she'd clearly known there wasn't enough time, she wouldn't have continued the rescue.
She wouldn't sacrifice herself to save others.
She knew her limits.
Felix's expression became even more awkward.
He didn't mean anything by it - he'd just seen the news, got scared, and somehow ended up running over here.
"Anything else?" Amelia asked.
Felix really wanted to talk with her more, to improve their relationship.
He finally managed to say something: "I'm planning to start investigating the Combat Arts Hall incident once the typhoon passes."
Amelia nodded. "Okay."
"If I find them, should I take them out directly, or...?"
"You just need to help me find them. Don't do anything - you're no match for them."
Felix suddenly didn't know what to say.
He realized with frustration that Grant and the others always had plenty to talk about with Amelia, but he didn't even know what to say anymore.
This feeling made his chest feel tight.
"Nothing else then?"
Felix knew Amelia was telling him to leave.
He nodded and turned toward the door.
But when he reached it, he suddenly remembered something and turned back.
"Amelia, there's something I don't know if I should say."
"If you're thinking that way, then you shouldn't say it. Don't."
Amelia's eyes were cold, and Felix really couldn't speak.
He coughed awkwardly, nodded, and left.
He'd wanted to suggest that Amelia try to smooth things over with Yasmin and let her move back in.
After all, Yasmin wasn't a bad person.
She was just a spoiled girl.
Even though at the Sullivan family's door that time, Yasmin had told a little lie that made him misunderstand Amelia.
But that wasn't some unforgivable crime.
Yesterday, he'd called Yasmin, and she said she'd broken up with Steven and was now staying at a friend's place.
But his words were cut off before he could say them, directly rejected by Amelia, so he had to give up.
He figured since his relationship with Amelia hadn't even improved yet, he'd better not bring up Yasmin for now.
Felix left, full of concerns.
As soon as he left, Amelia called Samuel.
Samuel had already returned to Rosevale Manor. But he wasn't in the main building - he was in a building behind it.
He was holding a book, flipping through it occasionally, but clearly distracted.
His eyes kept looking at the surveillance room across from him.
Soon, the surveillance footage would be restored.
Amelia's call came in at that moment.
Seeing the caller ID, Samuel's heartbeat inexplicably quickened.
After realizing this, Samuel laughed at himself.
His life had been through so many setbacks and difficulties.
Yet seeing Amelia call made his heart rate increase.
Silently annoyed with himself, he quickly answered Amelia's call.
"This year's last typhoon really is something - it blew your call my way."
On the other end, Amelia didn't respond to Samuel's teasing. She wasn't calling Samuel just to chat.
She got straight to the point: "I saw a news article about the car accident at noon, with you and me in it. I'll send it to you in a moment. See if you can get someone to delete it."
Samuel felt a bit disappointed.
So Amelia had an ulterior motive after all.
"Send it to me then."
"Okay."
Amelia hung up the next second and sent over the news article Felix had shown her.
The news wasn't hugely popular, but it already had over a thousand comments.
She didn't want Natalie to see it.
Actually, she could have had Max delete the news, but since she was in it, she didn't want people to know Max knew her.
She could let people know she was good at medicine, Combat Arts, and painting.
After all, as a member of the Richardson family now, netizens wouldn't know she was the leader of the Shadow Operations Division.
The Shadow Operations Division was being watched very closely right now.
If someone caught her, the Shadow Operations Division would be in chaos.
She couldn't take any risks.
So having Samuel do it was best.
He was in the video, too, anyway.
Samuel called back after about ten minutes.
"Already deleted."
"Thanks."
"No need to thank me. I was in it too. I don't like appearing in social news."
"But why were you so eager to delete this news? I looked at the comments - they were all praising you."
"I kept it from my mom. I don't want her to worry."
This answer was reasonable and wouldn't make him suspicious.
Samuel indeed didn't ask more questions. Just as he was about to keep her chatting a bit longer, Jeremy came over and signaled with his eyes that the video footage was restored.
Samuel nodded slightly, had Jeremy go out first, and said casually to Amelia, "With the typhoon, the temperature dropped again. Weather like this is perfect for hot springs. Want to go to a hot spring together sometime?"
"No thanks, I'm very busy lately. You seem to have plenty of time - why not think about how to bring your dad over so I can treat him?"
Samuel had been dragging his feet on this.
She didn't know what he was stalling for.
Did Stanley not want to come?
Or did he not trust her medical skills?
Either way, she wanted to resolve this quickly. Once it was done, the last thing she'd promised Samuel would be finished.
She could feel herself developing some unusual feelings for Samuel.
She couldn't let this continue - men would only slow down her climb to the top.
Especially since Samuel wasn't an ordinary man.
So things needed to be completed quickly.
Samuel said, "His situation is a bit special. I'll explain it to you in detail another day."
"Okay, I'll hang up then."
With that, she ended the call directly.
Samuel looked at the darkened phone screen, lost in thought.
"Mr. Crawford." Jeremy came in again.
Samuel waved his hand again.
"I'll go look in a bit. Need to handle something first."
Jeremy acknowledged and left again.
He just felt it was strange - Samuel had been so eager for results, and now that they were ready, why wouldn't he go look?
But Jeremy never over-analyzed Samuel's thoughts, and waited quietly outside the door.
In the room, Samuel dialed Stanley's private number.
The phone was answered after two rings.
"Samuel?"
"It's me, Dad."
"What happened?"
Samuel considered his words before speaking: "I found a miracle physician here in Goldenvale who might be able to cure your illness. Do you want to come take a look?"
"No need." Stanley refused. "I'm too tired. The way things are now is fine."
He'd given up.
His last illness had already left his body very weak.
His body had finally been slowly recovering, but during a follow-up exam, they discovered a tumor growing in a blood vessel in his brain.
The tumor was small, but because it was in a blood vessel - a brain blood vessel - the doctors didn't dare operate.
He didn't want to take that risk either.
If he went into the operating room, given his current physical condition, he probably wouldn't make it through, and the surgery success rate was very low.
But if he didn't go into the operating room, as long as that blood vessel didn't rupture, he could keep living.
How long, he couldn't say, but at least he wouldn't die as soon as he entered the operating room.
He was afraid.
Everyone fears death.
Samuel understood what Stanley meant, which was why he hadn't pushed him to come.
"Don't refuse so quickly. Think about it first. This doctor I found is better than all the ones you've seen before."
Stanley skipped over this topic and asked about something else.
"By the way, what have you thought about the marriage arrangement with the Richardson family's daughter that I mentioned before?"
