Chapter 125 Do You Deserve to Know Who I Am?
Before Julie called Lucas, Lucas was showing Amelia around his new company.
Unlike Aurora Media, Aurevia Studio's office was in Goldenvale.
Due to her status, Amelia never appeared in person at any of the Shadow Operations Division's companies.
Outsiders all thought these companies belonged to Max.
And that was indeed the case - all the major companies were registered under Max's name.
Amelia gave him opportunities, and he took on the risks for Amelia. They were bound together in success.
Also because their relationship couldn't be known, they rarely met.
Amelia wanted to use this chance to see Max, and Lucas was the perfect excuse.
Fortunately, she didn't even need to ask - Lucas offered to bring her to Aurevia Studio himself.
He said, "Amelia, you're my blessing. You said companies might try to recruit me, and someone really did, so I want to take you to see it."
Amelia had been planning to come with Lucas anyway, so of course she agreed.
But after arriving at Aurevia Studio, Lucas had a lot to do - as the company's newly signed key talent, he needed to shoot promotional photos.
The company would release the photos that afternoon to publicly announce they'd signed Lucas.
During the photo shoot, Lucas handed his phone to Amelia for safekeeping.
That's why Amelia received Julie's call.
Julie's original number had long been blocked by Lucas, so she was using a number she rarely used, which is why Lucas's phone went through.
Amelia glanced at Lucas, who was busy with the shoot, and answered for him.
"Hello, who's this?"
The other end was silent for a good four or five seconds.
Just when Amelia thought the caller might have dialed the wrong number, a very cold voice came through: "Who are you?"
The tone was very unfriendly. Amelia frowned slightly.
But since this was Lucas's phone, Amelia was afraid of delaying his business, so she patiently explained: "I'm Amelia; the owner of this phone is my brother. Who are you?"
"Amelia?"
Julie's voice on the other end was still cold.
"As far as I know, Lucas's sister is named Yasmin. So who are you?"
Amelia was losing patience.
"You still haven't answered me - who are you?"
"Someone like you doesn't deserve to know who I am! Put Lucas on the phone right now, or I'll make you pay!"
Hearing this, Amelia had already guessed who was on the other end.
It was that woman who, after having her confession rejected, suppressed Lucas.
"You're Ms. Crawford, right?"
Amelia's voice was calm and steady.
Julie paused, then snorted coldly and said, "Since you've guessed who I am, why aren't you giving him the phone?"
"My brother is busy. Whatever you want, wait until he's done."
"How dare you refuse!"
Amelia's lips curved slightly.
"Why wouldn't I dare? Not only do I dare refuse, I'll also block your number."
"You—"
"Ms. Crawford, you're so high-status, yet you do such petty things as revenge when you can't get what you want. Don't you think that lowers your status? If word gets out, aren't you afraid of embarrassing the Crawford family?"
"How dare you! Someone like you has no right to say such things to me!"
"Ms. Crawford, let me give you one last piece of advice. From now on, you and Lucas stay out of each other's way. I can pretend nothing happened before. But if you dare harass my brother again, I won't let you off."
"Bitch! Where did you even come from! I..."
All Julie got in response was the busy tone.
Amelia had hung up.
Julie was so angry she immediately called back, but this time only a mechanical female voice informed her that the number was out of service.
In other words, she'd been blocked.
"Bitch! Bitch!"
Julie was furious.
But Amelia didn't care about Julie's reaction.
Since Lucas was already at Aurevia Studio, Julie couldn't touch him.
And she certainly wasn't afraid of Julie.
Amelia put the phone back in Lucas's jacket pocket, acting as if nothing had happened.
Lucas needed to stay in good spirits today - she wouldn't let disgusting people like Julie affect his shoot.
Soon, the promotional photos were done.
Next was recording the interview video.
Lucas went to change into another outfit.
Amelia took this opportunity to slip out of the studio and head straight for the elevator.
She'd already given Max a heads up. Max would be at Aurevia Studio today and should be waiting for her in his office now.
His office was on the eighth floor, while the studio was on the first floor.
But just as the elevator doors were about to close, someone shouted "Wait!"
Amelia didn't want too many people noticing her going to the eighth floor, so she ignored the voice.
But the person ran fast and squeezed in just before the doors closed.
The elevator door hit the person's shoulder, making them gasp in pain.
The person sucked in a breath and looked at Amelia with a complaining gaze.
Their eyes met, and both showed surprise.
The person who squeezed in was none other than Lucas's former agent from Aurora Media, Louie, who had been fired.
And now, he was at Aurevia Studio.
Louie was also surprised.
Enemies are bound to cross paths.
He quickly looked away, acting as if Amelia didn't exist.
Amelia didn't want to deal with him either, keeping her eyes fixed on the elevator display.
Louie pressed the button for the third floor.
When the elevator reached the third floor, he got out.
Amelia caught a glimpse of many people on the third floor, looking like they were there for interviews.
Sure enough, when she reached the eighth floor and asked Max, she confirmed that Louie was there for an interview.
The company was hiring a lot of people today.
As Aurevia Studio aimed higher, they needed more and more people.
Amelia didn't mention running into Louie.
She trusted Aurevia Studio's Personnel department's judgment.
Someone like him couldn't possibly pass the interview, so he wasn't worth mentioning.
Max made her a cappuccino with a beautiful pattern on top. Taking a sip, the coffee flavor mixed with milk fragrance.
"It's really good."
Max breathed a sigh of relief.
"As long as Mr. Richardson likes it."
"Just call him by his name. Don't get too used to it, or you won't be able to change back."
"Okay. The company will announce the newly signed talents this afternoon, including Lucas. We'll introduce them with the highest standards."
Amelia nodded, her tone leaving no room for doubt: "I want him to become famous as quickly as possible."
Max hesitated: "I'll give him the best resources, but whether he becomes famous is hard to predict."
"He has what it takes to be famous. I won't let you down."
"Alright. I'll help him."
Amelia hummed in acknowledgment, took another sip of coffee, and brought up another matter.
"Mason - his investments keep failing. I hope you can help him out."
"Mason?" Max was surprised. "He's my college classmate. His grades were even better than mine, and he had great vision. How could he keep failing?"
"Mason is your college classmate?" Amelia was also surprised.
Max nodded. "He was a big deal at school, always first in exams. Before even graduating, he won a very prestigious college entrepreneurship competition. How could he be..."
Amelia's expression didn't change, but she already knew someone was sabotaging him behind the scenes.
Recently, one of Mason's project partners suddenly pulled out their investment. He was desperate, so Amelia had Byron send someone to invest in Mason, solving his urgent problem.
That's why Mason's current amusement park project could proceed smoothly.
They just hadn't figured out yet who was sabotaging him behind the scenes.
They only knew it wasn't just one person who wanted Mason to fail.
Amelia told Max what she knew.
Max sighed. "No wonder! His situation is just like mine - being suppressed. But I was suppressed because I had no backing and needed to make way for others. What about him?"
Amelia said, "It must be that he accidentally got in someone's way too. Since you're his classmate, do you know if he had conflicts with anyone in college?"
Max shook his head.
"No, he had a great personality and got along with everyone. No romantic rivals either, because he always had a steady girlfriend - I think they'd been together since high school."
"Girlfriend?" Amelia didn't know about this. The Richardson family probably didn't either, or they would have mentioned his girlfriend.
"Yes, but I wasn't close with her. She didn't go to our school."
"Do you have her contact information?"
"No, but one of my roommates knows her girlfriend - I think they went to the same high school. I can ask for you."
"Then please get her contact information for me. An address would be even better."
"Sure, I'll get it for you by today."
"Okay."
It was about time - Amelia needed to go back downstairs.
"I'll walk you down."
"Don't. It would be bad if people suspected something between us."
Max had to agree and called his trusted assistant to escort Amelia downstairs.
If anyone asked, they'd say Amelia got lost and happened to run into his assistant, who was taking her to find Lucas.
Outside the door, the hallway was empty.
Max had found an excuse in advance to clear the eighth floor, so no one would see Amelia entering his office.
"Ms. Richardson, please."
The assistant held the elevator door for her.
Amelia nodded and walked into the elevator.
But the elevator didn't go straight to the first floor - it stopped on the third floor.
By unfortunate coincidence, Amelia ran into Louie again.
He didn't recognize Max's assistant, only Amelia.
Seeing Amelia quietly watching him, his already unpleasant expression instantly became even worse.
The elevator was going down. Louie couldn't hold back and suddenly spoke: "You did this, didn't you?"
Amelia asked expressionlessly, "Are you talking to me?"
"Stop pretending!" Louie clenched his fists. "I came for an interview and just happened to run into you... Then I went in for the interview and got rejected in less than a minute. So you're saying it's just a coincidence my interview failed right after you talked to them about me?"
Amelia laughed.
"Someone like you isn't worth me going out of my way to target."
Louie's eyes widened suddenly, filled with anger.
