Chapter 32 Because Phantom Is Here!
Chapter 32 Because Phantom Is Here!
Two days later.
"Where's Sophie?" Mason and Marcus both showed up on time as scheduled, but Sophie was missing.
"No idea."
Both shook their heads simultaneously. After Sophie went home saying she was going to visit her grandmother at the hospital, they had parted ways.
Come to think of it, they really hadn't seen Sophie for over a day since then.
Could something have happened?
Eve narrowed her eyes. Sophie wasn't the type to be late, much less the type to just disappear.
The only explanation was that something had gone wrong.
Not daring to delay, she pulled out her phone and dialed Sophie's number directly.
Just as she expected, no one answered.
"You two continue training today. I'll go find Sophie."
"No way!" Mason objected.
"No way!" Marcus also stepped forward in protest. "Sophie is our teammate. If she's in danger now, how can we just stand by and do nothing?"
Eve looked at Mason. "You think the same?"
"Yes!" Mason's answer was firm and resolute, without a moment's hesitation.
Eve nodded with satisfaction, though a trace of sadness flickered through her heart.
She once had teammates like this too, but when they encountered danger, their choices were completely different from now.
In the organization, friendship and comradeship were the most useless things.
The organization trained them like raising venomous insects.
When necessary, they would make them fight and devour each other bit by bit.
Everyone was paired with a teammate, living, studying, and training together.
However,
at the final moment when their training ended, they had to kill their partner.
Only those who survived could successfully leave the organization's training camp.
Eve would never forget that her teammate was a girl with a baby face and cute dimples when she smiled. Everyone called her Candy.
Whenever she was exhausted, Candy's pure smile was the best medicine to heal her.
Sometimes she would wonder why such a clean person would appear in such a dark place as the organization.
"Because of you, because Phantom is here."
After one training session, lying on her bed, she finally asked the question that had been on her mind.
And that was how Candy had answered.
That soft, sweet voice—she would never forget it.
Yet it was exactly this person who became the first person she killed in her career as an assassin.
It was one afternoon, the weather gloomy, with waves of salty sea breeze filling the air.
Their instructor gathered all of them at the seaside training ground.
He gave them their final training assignment—kill your teammate. The successful one leaves, the failed one stays here forever.
After such a long period of brutal training, she thought she could face any mission, but today, Phantom hesitated.
Gripping the short knife in her hand, looking at Candy across from her still wearing a smile, she just couldn't bring herself to do it.
She knew that as the best performer among everyone, dealing with Candy would be no difficulty at all.
But...
"Because of you, because Phantom is here."
Candy's words from before replayed in her mind like a rollercoaster, over and over again.
"Phantom, I heard the outside world is wonderful. I've never been there. If possible, will you let me go see it?" Candy spoke, her voice as soft and pleasant as always.
Phantom wanted to live, desperately wanted to live.
Having been in the organization so long, she understood too well what failure meant.
It meant death, with bodies thrown into the sea behind them to be devoured by fish and shrimp.
But facing Candy, she couldn't do it.
The short knife in her hand hung limply at her side, her eyes complex as she watched Candy walk toward her step by step.
In her hand was a specially made dagger.
It was what she had given Candy the first time she cried from exhaustion during training.
The red tassel on it was something she had tied on herself.
"Phantom, will you agree?"
Candy's voice continued, but the tip of the dagger was already pressed against Phantom's heart. Just a little more pressure and she could successfully kill her.
"Yes!"
Phantom closed her eyes, not intending to resist.
Candy was her salvation and shouldn't die in this place.
"Phantom, you really are foolishly naive."
A pain in her chest, the voice in her ear still soft and sweet, but the words made Phantom's face turn pale instantly. "So foolishly cute. You didn't really think I genuinely liked following you around, did you?"
Phantom opened her eyes, looking at Candy in confusion.
Candy smiled mockingly, her round face no longer showing any trace of cuteness, only viciousness. "Weak as I am, yet able to kill you who ranked first in every category—do you know how excited that makes me?"
Victory in hand, Candy dropped all pretense, leaning forward with her face full of triumph.
"So you've been lying to me this whole time?" Phantom gritted her teeth. "You never had any real feelings for me?"
Hahaha!
Candy laughed, laughing wildly. "Right, otherwise how could I have gained your trust? How else could I have killed you?"
"You deserve to die!"
Phantom was enraged. The short knife in her hand instantly rose and effortlessly plunged into Candy's heart.
As the top student in combat, if she wanted to kill someone, she would never let her blade miss by even an inch.
Warm blood splattered on the back of her hand. Watching Candy's face suddenly turn pale, Phantom's heart ached.
She had killed her after all.
"Candy, you should know I hate deception most of all."
Candy smiled, stepping back, the dagger in her hand also retreating, withdrawing from Phantom's chest.
Droplets of blood dripped from the tip.
"Phantom, how wonderful—you finally did it."
That heart-warming smile reappeared on Candy's face, the dimples at the corners of her mouth showing once more.
"This way, Phantom can leave here and see the outside world."
What?
How could this be?
Eve left. Having killed her teammate, she successfully left the organization's training base with first place in every category.
She became a professional assassin.
......
Withdrawing her gaze, Eve looked at Mason and Marcus in front of her again and nodded.
"Then let's go together."
Soon, the three set out again.
After some operations on her phone, Eve saw a small red dot moving continuously before finally stopping near a bar called Midnight, close to a university.
A bar—why would Sophie be there?
"Sophie, bet you didn't expect this. After all that, you still end up being mine, don't you?"
Inside a private room at the bar, Sophie sat on the sofa, looking at Samuel across from her, smiling wickedly.
She never expected that this morning, just as she was preparing to leave to find Eve, she would receive a message from Eve telling her she must come here.
She thought Eve had something important and didn't suspect anything, coming directly.
Who knew that when she opened the door to the private room, she would only see Samuel.
"You got into Eve's phone?"
