“Gotcha”

I had run out of places to hide.

My breathing was ragged, my body trembling from exhaustion and the constant fear that had been gnawing at me for what felt like hours. Every corner I turned, every room I entered, seemed to only bring me closer to my end. And now, here I was—cornered.

The observation deck was dark, save for the faint glow of the emergency lights. I could hear my heart pounding in my chest, the sound deafening in the silence of the room. The air was thick with tension.

Light’s presence filled the space, his dark form looming over me, blocking my only escape. He was grinning, that same sickening smile playing on his lips, his glowing eyes watching me with cruel amusement.

“You really thought you could outsmart me, didn’t you?” he purred, his voice low and mocking. “How quaint. How foolish.”

I straightened up, trying to hide the way my hands were shaking. My pulse was racing, but I wouldn’t let him see how much he scared me. No matter how trapped I felt, no matter how small I seemed under his gaze, I was not going to show him fear.

“You’ve lost, little human,” he continued, his voice cold and smooth, like he was talking to an insect he had caught under his boot. “You can’t escape me. You never could.”

I stood my ground, even as my thoughts raced. What choice did I have left? I knew I was running out of time, that the longer I waited, the harder it would be to do what I needed to do. I glanced down at the shard of steel in my hand. It was small, but it was all I had.

The moment was upon me. Light stepped closer, his body filling the space with an overwhelming aura. My mind screamed at me to run, to do something, anything. But I couldn’t move. My legs were frozen in place, my body paralyzed by his presence.

He reached out, his hand hovering above me, as if deciding how best to finish me off. His eyes locked onto mine, full of dark amusement.

“You’re so predictable,” he whispered, his voice like silk, but filled with venom. “You think you can hurt me? You think you can kill me with that little shard of metal?”

His words were cruel, but I was done listening. My fingers tightened around the steel, feeling the cold bite of it beneath my skin. I knew what I had to do.

Without warning, I lunged, using every ounce of strength I had left. The shard of steel flashed in the dim light, plunging into his neck with a sickening crunch.

For a moment, time seemed to freeze. Light’s eyes widened in disbelief, his predatory smile faltering. He jerked back, his body stiffening, and for a split second, I thought I had done it. I had actually done it.

But no.

His glowing eyes narrowed as he processed the attack. “So… this is how it ends?” he mused, his voice still calm, even though his body was reacting to the wound. “You think this will stop me?”

I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. The pain of my own blood pumping so wildly in my veins made it hard to concentrate, but I still managed to hold onto the shard of steel.

His expression shifted—faster than I could process. His calm demeanor cracked, and there was something else in his eyes. Something new. Something… intrigued.

“You’ve surprised me, little human,” Light said, his voice colder than before, but with a hint of something else beneath it. Something I didn’t want to face. “I never thought you would have it in you.”

It was then I realized something that hit me like a gut punch. Despite all of his power, despite the terrifying being that he was, I had broken through. I had made him doubt himself.

For the first time, I felt like I had a chance.

But before I could take in that fleeting moment of triumph, Light’s tail whipped around me with terrifying speed, knocking me off my feet and slamming me against the cold, unforgiving wall. My breath left me in a gasp, the impact rattling my bones.

“You truly are a pathetic creature, but…” He leaned down, his voice a low growl, “…you have fire, don’t you?”

His hand shot out, grabbing me by the throat, squeezing with a force that made my vision blur. I struggled beneath him, my hands clawing at his fingers, trying to pry them off, but it was no use. His strength was overwhelming.

I couldn’t breathe. I could feel my life slipping away, but a part of me wasn’t afraid. Maybe I should have been, but I wasn’t. I had finally done something to surprise him. That was enough for now.

Then, without warning, his lips were on mine.

It was brutal. His mouth was like a vise, crushing against mine with no regard for gentleness. His tongue pushed past my lips, invading my mouth with a force I couldn’t match. I gasped in shock, but he didn’t give me a chance to breathe. His kiss was violent, as if he wanted to devour me, as if my resistance was something to be crushed underfoot.

I could taste the metallic tang of blood where he had been wounded, but it didn’t stop him. His hands moved with dangerous intent, one gripping my throat, the other pushing me against the wall harder, his body pressing into mine. His tentacle writhed behind him, coiling like a serpent, each motion sending waves of terror and strange heat through me.

My pulse was erratic as he continued to kiss me, his tongue down my throat, his breath hot and harsh against my skin. His hands roamed, squeezing and pushing me harder into the cold wall, and I felt the heat of his body against mine.

It was everything I hated, everything I feared, but at the same time… there was something in his touch, something raw, something animalistic. I felt his dominance. I felt his power.

And yet, I refused to give him the satisfaction of knowing how much it affected me. I clenched my teeth, refusing to make a sound.

Finally, he pulled away, his breathing as ragged as mine. “You’ve surprised me, Lila,” he said softly, his voice no longer mocking. “But don’t mistake that for mercy.”

He stood there for a moment, just looking at me, before his cold tentacle lashed out again, pulling me closer.
