Chapter 86 : Fake Tears
Nigel didn’t expect to witness Sherrie being attacked in broad daylight at a popular hospital like Kansas Hospital.
Sherrie grabbed his arm and refused to let go. “Nigel, stop fighting with Allison. Jareth is backing her now. I’m scared they’ll come after you.”
Hearing Sherrie’s words, Nigel was shocked, embarrassment flashing across his face.
Sherrie kept going. “You have to think about yourself. If you end up in jail, what happens to Mom and me?”
Nigel gritted his teeth. He understood what she was saying. He shouldn't challenge someone that Jareth Taylor chose to protect. From now on, even the Rogers family would have to lower their heads to Allison.
What kind of brother would he be if he let Allison bully him like this?
“Nigel… your phone’s ringing,” Sherrie reminded him gently.
He picked it up and immediately scowled. “Gabriel wants to cancel the contract?”
Gabriel was a traveling pharmaceutical merchant. Nigel had just signed a major order with him for original formulation drugs.
Currently, his hospital was the only one in the country with access to that supply. Nigel had planned to use it to boost their revenue.
And now Gabriel was pulling out?
“Has he forgotten the breach penalties?” Nigel growled inwardly.
The voice on the other end replied calmly, “Mr. Gabriel said you’re free to sue him if you want.”
Despite his gentlemanly image, Gabriel was notoriously ruthless. He was confident Nigel would never dare take him to court.
Especially since he still had proof of Nigel trespassing and committing assault.
Nigel tightened his grip on the phone. He closed his eyes and forced himself to swallow the bitter truth. “Fine. I understand.”
After hanging up, Sherrie’s thoughts spun. Rogers Hospital shouldn't collapse like this.
She suddenly burst into tears. “Nigel… what if we ask Allison for help? If she speaks to Jareth, maybe he’ll help the Rogers Hospital.”
Nigel let out a sigh. “That idiot can’t even look after herself. Why would Jareth help her?”
Even as he said it, his eyes flickered. The truth was, he simply didn't want to lower himself and beg for Allison's help.
She was his sister. She was supposed to bow to him, not the other way around.
Still, she was part of the Rogers family. She couldn't just stand by and watch their family hospital fall apart.
“Come on. Let’s bring Allison home.”
They walked toward her room.
Nigel knocked. It took a long time before the door finally opened.
A woman stood there, arms crossed, leaning against the doorframe.
Nigel was stunned for a moment. It took him a second to recognize her.
“Nova?”
Yes, it was Nova.
Jareth had called her to the hospital specifically to take care of Allison.
She used to work as a maid in the Rogers household. Nigel had never seen her as anything more than hired help.
So he ordered, “Pack Allison’s things. She’s coming home with me.”
Nova didn't move. Instead, she looked Nigel over and said in a mocking tone, “And who do you think you’re giving orders to? Was I supposed to get a notice when you became my boss? Or do you still think it’s the era of ‘once a servant, always a servant’?”
“You—” Nigel flushed, embarrassment and anger burning across his face.
He shoved her aside. “I’m not here to talk to you. I came for Allison.”
“I told you, you’re not allowed to come inside.” Nova blocked the doorway and refused to move. They ended up shoving each other.
Sherrie took advantage of the chaos and pinched Nova hard in the side.
Nova cried out in pain. Nigel seized the chance and shoved her forcefully. She staggered into the room and fell to the floor.
As soon as she hit the ground, she looked up and saw Allison stepping off the bed, walking straight toward her.
“Ms. Rogers, don’t move. I’m fine,” Nova said quickly, clutching her side as she struggled to get up.
But Allison kept walking toward her.
She stopped in front of the two intruders, her face cold. “Who pushed her?”
Nigel frowned. He didn't like the way she was looking at him.
What, was she really going to pick a fight over a maid?
He lifted his chin in defiance. “I did. She was blocking the door. What, was I supposed to just stand there and let her stop me?”
Nova shouted, “Sherrie, don’t think you can wriggle out of this. You pinched me when I wasn’t looking. Now you don’t even have the nerve to admit it? You sneaky little rat.”
Nigel turned toward her, clearly surprised.
Sherrie stood behind him, her shoulders drawing inward as she shook her head helplessly. “Nigel, I didn’t…”
Before Nigel could say a word, Allison walked up to him and looked straight into Sherrie’s eyes.
Sherrie flinched and quickly hid behind Nigel.
Allison asked calmly. “Nova, do you still have the strength?”
Nova rolled up her sleeves. “Enough to move a mountain. Just tell me what you need.”
Allison looked straight at Sherrie. “Hold her.”
Sherrie barely had time to react when Nova rushed up behind her and caught her in a crushing grip.
Nova was built like someone who used to hard labor. She knew exactly how to restrain someone and keep them from getting away.
Nova gripped Sherrie’s wrists from behind. With her arms pinned tightly, Sherrie couldn't move at all.
“Ow…” The cry had barely left her mouth when a sharp slap echoed through the air, snapping her head to the side.
A vivid red handprint spread across her cheek.
Nigel’s eyes widened. He turned to Allison in shock.
She had slapped Sherrie hard.
Three years ago, she had stabbed her. And now, after everything, she still dared to lay hands on Sherrie again.
Whatever they taught her in the asylum clearly didn’t help. She’d only gotten worse.
Nigel was about to attack Allison, but she slapped Sherrie again, and this time it was on the other cheek.
“Aah!” Sherrie screamed in a sharp voice filled with pain.
She thrashed wildly, but Nova covered her mouth with a lab coat. She won’t allow this two-faced bitch to get in Allison’s way again.
Allison’s voice turned cold. “Don’t think I won’t slap you just because you know how to fake a cry.”
