Chapter 82 : An Expensive Watch
Hospitals were always filled with a diverse range of people, including VIPs and celebrities. It was nothing unusual for someone to draw attention.
Allison didn't think much of it. What she didn't know was that the person surrounded by admirers outside was none other than Sherrie.
Dressed in a white coat, with her hands tucked neatly into her pockets, Sherrie walked slowly in the hallway. A group of nurses and medical interns followed behind her.
“Dr. Sherrie, is it true? Are you really Mr. Ronan from the Lopez family’s girlfriend?” someone asked, barely able to hide their excitement.
Sherrie flashed a dazzling smile without slowing down. “It’s just a rumor. Don’t take it seriously.”
“But we saw Mr. Ronan in the car with you when he dropped you off. That car was gorgeous.”
“That was a blue Bugatti, right? Only two hundred were made in the world. Of course it’s gorgeous.”
“Dr. Sherrie, isn’t your hair clip from Balenciaga? It’s listed at one hundred forty thousand dollars on the official site.”
“Oh my god, she’s wearing an apartment on her head and still saying she’s not dating Mr. Ronan?”
Sherrie stopped in front of Deputy Director Xavier’s office. She turned back and gave a playful wink. Making a finger-gun gesture, she said with a glint in her eye, “Spread one more rumor, and I’ll sue you.”
The girl she pointed at instantly clutched her chest, as if she had been struck by Cupid’s arrow. Laughter rang through the hallway.
That playful way of “denying” the rumors only made everyone believe them even more. It was obvious she was Mr. Ronan’s girlfriend, just choosing to keep a low profile.
Sherrie walked into Mr. Xavier’s office.
He had clearly been waiting. The moment the door opened, he nearly jumped to his feet. Grinning from ear to ear, he hurried over to greet her. “Dr. Sherrie, it’s such an honor to finally meet you!”
Sherrie replied politely. “Mr. Xavier, I’ll be counting on your support from now on.”
“Of course, of course. Mr. Ronan already gave me a heads-up. I will give you my full support.”
Kansas Hospital was partially funded by the Lopez Corporation. Mr. Xavier was one of Luke Lopez’s men.
Everyone in Kansas knew Ronan was the Lopez family’s only heir. That made Sherrie, the woman publicly linked to him, the future lady of the house.
Who would not want to curry favor?
Sherrie was pleased with the reaction. If she had known Ronan’s identity would be this useful, she wouldn't have wasted so much time at Rogers Hospital.
Even so, things had turned for the better. The family she had once injured and crippled would be furious if they found out she hadn't been punished. Instead, she was thriving.
Once the small talk ended, Mr. Xavier went behind his desk and slid a form toward her.
“Dr. Sherrie, just fill this out and you’ll officially be on the team. Don’t worry about your graduate certificate. We’ll make sure it looks perfect.”
Sherrie was currently a graduate student, with plans to move straight into a PhD after finishing her master’s degree. When she was done, her résumé would be the most impressive in the Rogers family.
Even Toby could not compare.
And Allison? She did not even have a college degree.
A cold smirk appeared on her lips as she picked up the pen and signed her name.
Mr. Xavier blinked when he saw it.
“Allison? So you’re the one who used that special technique to save Madam Berry?”
Sherrie’s smile disappeared.
What Madam Berry? What special technique?
The moment Mr. Xavier saw her expression change, he remembered Dr. Joe’s warning that the incident involving Madam Berry was not to be discussed.
He hadn't been in the room during the treatment, but he had heard the name “Allison” shouted in the chaos. He had assumed it was Sherrie.
He hurried to smooth things over.
“Please don’t worry, Dr. Sherrie. I won’t say a word about the Berry case.”
Internally, he was excited. He had thought Ronan’s girlfriend was here just to pick up a fancy title. Instead, it seemed he had struck gold.
Now, whenever a difficult surgery came up, he finally had someone he could rely on.
Sherrie finished the paperwork. Mr. Xavier quickly processed her as a medical intern, assigning her to assist supervising physicians with patient exams, diagnoses, and treatments. This included writing orders, filling out charts, and submitting test requests.
When she walked out of the office with her new staff badge hanging on her chest, the nurses and interns outside understood immediately.
With support from above, it didn't take long for Sherrie to uncover the details of Madam Berry’s miraculous recovery.
She discovered that the old woman had once been scheduled for a highly risky operation until some mysterious figure cured her, leaving her completely unharmed.
Sherrie couldn't help but wonder. Could it have been Allison?
No way.
Allison only had a high school diploma and had spent three years in a mental hospital. How could she possibly have that level of skill?
Still, curiosity gnawed at her.
She decided to visit Madam Berry and ask around, carefully.
She went alone to the floor where Madam Berry’s room was located. A man with spiked red hair and a cocky swagger walked straight toward her.
As they passed each other, Sherrie caught sight of the rose gold Jaeger-LeCoultre spherical tourbillon on his wrist. She hesitated.
Only twenty-five of those watches existed in the world. Ronan had pulled every string he could to get one.
Anyone who wore a watch like that was definitely not ordinary.
She was still lost in thought when their shoulders brushed. The red-haired man deliberately leaned down and took a deep sniff of her.
Sherrie noticed it but pretended not to.
Clutching her clipboard, she walked into Madam Berry’s room.
No matter how cautiously she asked, Madam Berry revealed nothing. She even became wary and asked to check Sherrie’s employee ID.
Cursing the old woman in her mind, Sherrie left in frustration.
Back in her hospital room, Allison had a tray balanced across her lap and was working through a stack of SAT prep books.
She was determined to retake the test and rebuild her academic credentials. Even without an ID for now, nothing could stop her from preparing.
“You’re actually here.” A brash voice interrupted her as the door banged open.
