Chapter 30 : Trying To Arranged Her Marriage
Allison smiled with mockery, “Ronan, are you scared I’ll actually end up with Jareth?”
She added, “Because Jareth is more capable than you. You’re jealous.”
Allison kept going. “If I like someone else, I won’t be in your and Sherrie’s way. You should be happy.”
Instead of standing there listening to Ronan’s rant, who was talking like she was the one who cheated, Allison walked into the living room.
Ronan didn’t follow her. He was probably too pissed off.
When Allison walked into the living room, she noticed extra people in the house.
On the sofa, Ruth was chatting with a woman about her age.
Ruth smiled when she saw Allison. She quickly beckoned her. “Look, our Ally is back. Ally, say hello to Ms. Genna.”
Allison had never heard of anyone named Genna being close to the family. However, she didn’t want trouble, so she just said, “Hello, Ms. Genna.”
Allison glanced at the bangle on Genna’s wrist. It looked well-made. The quality was good, but it wasn’t top-tier. She figured Genna was from a well-off family. But not as rich as the Rogers family.
After greeting her, Allison didn’t expect anything good from the conversation. So she turned and started heading for the stairs.
Then, out of nowhere, Genna reached out and pinched Allison’s butt. She used a lot of force. It was obvious she did it on purpose.
Allison was so shocked that she took a step back, but she did not cry out.
Genna was pleased with her reaction. She smiled and nodded at Ruth. “This girl is firm. She can live a good life.”
Hearing that, Ruth’s expression visibly relaxed, and she replied, “She was raised in comfort. As long as you approve of her, that’s good enough.”
Genna grinned so widely that the flesh on her face trembled. “She is good, just a little too skinny. It might not be easy for her to bear children.”
Allison understood immediately. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked at Ruth. “Mom, who is she?”
Ruth knew Allison was not asking for a name. She reached out to calm her. “Your brother asked me to arrange your marriage. Genna is an old friend of mine. Her son is honest and dependable. If you marry him, you won’t suffer.”
Genna quickly chimed in, “That’s right! You won’t have to do anything at my house. Just lie in bed and give birth to a son.”
Allison turned around, and her face turned cold. “And what if I can’t have a son?”
Genna did not realize she was being mocked and said, “It’s fine if you have a daughter. Just keep having kids. You’ll get a son eventually.”
Alright, Allison now understood exactly what kind of family this was. She glanced at the coffee table. She picked up the teapot and poured it on Genna's head. The tea was at a drinkable temperature, but it still made Genna yelp as she flailed her hands in the air.
Allison had no intention of stopping. She chased after her and poured more tea over her head.
Genna could not sit still anymore. She jumped up and ran while screaming, “Ruth! What’s wrong with your daughter?!”
Allison said sharply, “I have a mental illness. Sorry, when I have an episode, I like to hit people. Please be understanding!”
With that, she grabbed a teacup from the table and smashed it near Genna’s feet. Genna clutched her chest in fear and ran outside, yelling at Ruth as she went. “If she’s mentally ill, why didn’t you say it earlier? Are you trying to make my son go crazy, too? Ruth, you’re a fraud! I’m going to expose you on the matchmaking site!”
“Oh!” Ruth stood up anxiously.
Allison turned to look at her. Ruth opened her mouth but hesitated, then sat back down on the couch without daring to make a sound.
Seeing that Ruth did not dare move and Ella was not home, Allison went straight to the yard to find the tree Nova had mentioned. She then started digging.
She knew that once Nigel came back, she would not escape a beating. So she figured, since she was already in trouble, she might as well get everything done in one go. The shovel hit something solid.
Allison crouched down. She brushed away the dirt and pulled out a plastic box.
She carried the box back to her room.
Ruth kept glancing at her but did not dare intervene.
Inside her room, Allison threw a piece of clothing over the surveillance camera. She locked the door with a chain, then sat on the floor and started going through what Nova had left her.
The plastic box was filled with things wrapped in plastic. The moment she opened it, a musty smell hit her. Most of it was old paper, notebooks, and random scribbles.
Nova was not well educated, but she knew Allison treasured written records. So instead of keeping any valuable items, she had only saved these scraps of paper.
And it was precisely because they were worthless that the Rogers family had not noticed them. But to Allison, these tattered pages were priceless.
Especially her father’s medical notes. They did not just contain his insights on rare and difficult illnesses. They also held the connections he had built.
Allison read the pages quickly. She flipped through them until she heard the sound of an engine outside.
She checked the surveillance feed and saw Sherrie’s car pulling into the carport. Nigel stepped out, rubbing his temples and looking exhausted.
Sherrie, on the other hand, had reddened eyes and looked like she had done something wrong.
According to their original plan, Nigel and Sherrie were supposed to be out discussing business deals. But not only had they come back early, but they both looked troubled.
What happened?
Nigel walked straight into the living room, with Sherrie following behind him and apologizing nonstop. “Nigel, it’s all my fault. I was too eager to prove myself. I was too eager to help the family, and that’s why things turned out like this. This accident is entirely my responsibility. I’m willing to go to jail for it.”
Nigel quickly comforted her, “No one goes through life without making mistakes. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I’ll take care of it.”
As he spoke, he looked up and saw Ruth sitting on the couch, wiping her tears.
Ella stood beside her, holding a plate of food and trying to comfort her. Ruth shook her head. A few tears fell as she said she could not eat.
Nigel quickly walked over. “Mom, what’s wrong?”
