Chapter 291 : Top 1 Of The Exam
Chapter 291 : Top 1 Of The Exam
Jareth clenched his jaw.
Realizing that the news had stung his pride, Allison quickly explained. "I didn't know they handled it that way either. This is completely new to me."
But Jareth's expression didn't improve in the slightest.
Three years ago, Allison had also taken the SAT, but her results had been stolen and handed over to Sherrie. She hadn't even been given the chance to see her own score.
Judging by how far Sherrie had gone academically afterward, it was obvious that Allison's results back then had been exceptionally high, too.
"Top ten in the whole of Kansas?" Carl and Sandra exclaimed at the same time from the other end of the call.
They had expected Allison to do well, but making it into the top ten was on a completely different level.
If the people who had tried to frame her found out, they would probably be so furious they wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
Jareth pulled out his phone and took a picture of the screen.
Allison blinked. "What are you doing?"
He looked at her with a completely serious expression. "Having a proud husband moment."
"My wife is a genius. The whole world should know."
Allison awkwardly rubbed her temple.
After seeing her results, even the way Jareth walked seemed different, as if he were guarding a priceless treasure.
He called Laurie into his office and practically thrust the photo in front of her. "See this? This is the kind of academic 'deficiency' my wife has."
Laurie rolled her eyes so hard they nearly disappeared into the back of her head, but after that, she clearly treated Allison a little better.
For the rest of the week, Allison's phone never stopped ringing. University offers came one after another. But she had already made up her mind. She wanted to attend Kansas Medical University.
News spread quickly. In circles where people paid close attention to Jareth's every move, it didn't take long for the Lopez family to hear about Allison's score as well.
The entire Lopez household fell silent. No one could believe it.
The woman they had once mocked as a lunatic, the same woman they had used to insult Jareth, was suddenly shining brighter than anyone had expected.
Top ten in the whole of Kansas?
Ronan had never cared much about academics, but even back then, only Ezra had managed to achieve scores like that.
Now Allison had reached the same level.
When Ronan heard the news, he ended up becoming his Grandpa's target once again. Trying to defend himself, he said, "Allison always had pretty good grades. You all just misjudged her. Her only real problem was her mental illness. Once that was treated, she's no different from anyone else. Besides, I was the one who said she wasn't a good match for Jareth."
The old man slammed his hand on the table. "You were wrong either way. And look at that fake woman you chose instead. Do you really not know how she got her diploma? You think someone like her is going to help you get anywhere?"
Linda spoke up coldly. "I heard it was Allison who improved the new formula for Anning Heart Tabs. We were counting on that issue to deal a serious blow to Jareth, but she turned it into an advantage instead. Do you still think having the right partner isn't important to a person's success?"
The room fell silent again. No one had a response.
Ronan was stunned after hearing Linda's statement. He hadn't expected Allison to be this outstanding.
Linda gently said, "Even if Allison is that capable, her loyalty has always been with Jareth. Otherwise, why didn't she ever help you build your career?"
Ronan's expression darkened. He didn't like hearing that at all.
Linda continued, "Ezra is no less talented than Allison. If the two of you really worked together, everything would be twice as efficient."
But Ronan wasn't really listening anymore. His thoughts were still fixed on one thing. Allison had helped Jareth, yet she had never once helped him.
The more Ronan thought about it, the more convinced he became that Allison's obedience all those years had been nothing but an act. She had never really loved him.
If she had, why hadn't she fought harder for me?
Even Sherrie, who had started with nothing, had done everything she could to improve herself for his sake.
But Allison had been so quick to write that breakup letter. She had allowed everyone to believe she was worthless and never once revealed her true abilities, not even to change his mind.
Yet when it came to Jareth, she gave him everything she had.
Any guilt Ronan had occasionally felt about falling for Sherrie vanished completely.
Now, he was convinced of one thing. Allison had been playing him all along.
As for Ezra, he couldn't even be bothered to pretend. His grandfather and Linda could pressure him all they wanted, but he had no intention of working with Ezra. He had plans of his own.
The latest returns from his investments had just been deposited. When Ronan saw the 320 million transfer credited to his account, his confidence immediately shot through the roof.
Who needed the Lopez family? He had turned 10 million into 320 million entirely on his own.
What did grades matter? What did intelligence matter? The only thing that mattered was recognizing the right opportunity when it appeared.
Feeling more confident than ever, Ronan contacted the investment group and asked to reinvest the entire 320 million.
This time, however, they rejected him.
A calm male voice came through the phone. "Our apologies, sir. Due to increasing administrative demands, we're adjusting our client strategy. Going forward, we'll only be working with high-net-worth individuals."
Ronan's face soured instantly. "What, so you're getting arrogant now?"
The man on the other end remained calm. "Mr. Ronan, you've just made over three hundred million. Surely you wouldn't be interested in making small investments anymore. We're moving into a higher-tier market and will only be accepting premium clients going forward."
Ronan's voice turned cold. "Then what's the minimum investment now?"
"Five billion to start," the man replied smoothly.
Ronan nearly choked on the spot. "Why don't you just go rob a bank instead?"
The man didn't react at all. "You're free to walk away, Mr. Ronan. We're expanding into overseas markets. Once the transition is complete, domestic clients will be phased out eventually. Best of luck with your future investments."
