Chapter 27 : I’m Not Crazy
Ronan sneered and ignored her. He stood up from his seat and walked up to her. He quickly grabbed her wrist. Then he turned to Jareth. “Jareth, she must be crazy to run away with you. I’m getting her out of here first. We can talk when I’m back.”
Crazy? Just using the excuse of mental illness, he thought he could take me away as he pleases? How long is he going to keep throwing this accusation at me? Allison mentally thought as her eyes turned red with grievance and frustration.
Struggling to free herself, Allison protested, “I’m not crazy! You’re falsely accusing me…”
She couldn’t be taken away. She hadn’t done anything yet.
Ronan retorted, “Not crazy? Then who was it that got sent to a psychiatric hospital?”
Turning back to Jareth, he added, “Jareth, her patient ID at the psychiatric hospital is 2150. You can check it yourself. I’m taking her now before her family starts worrying.”
Allison’s face filled with panic. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
She couldn’t free herself from Ronan’s grip, so she could only look around the room, hoping for help.
But when she scanned their faces, she realized that everyone here held significant status. Yet, they all remained indifferent. They watched the drama unfold coldly. No one was going to stand up for her.
“I’m not going back! I’m not going back!” Allison shook her head. She struggled desperately against Ronan.
To his surprise, he couldn’t drag her away. Ronan was shocked by her sudden burst of strength. But at the same time, he still thought she was out of her mind. He believed he was taking her home for her own good. But with the way she was screaming and resisting, it made him look like some kind of kidnapper.
With a thud, Allison fell to the ground. Ronan grabbed her under her arms. He prepared to lift her up and carry her out.
Suddenly, Allison screamed, “Jareth… Jareth! I can neutralize the Aconite! I can neutralize the Aconite!”
Ronan had no idea what nonsense Allison was yelling. Other people in the room didn’t understand either. Many of them had never even heard of Aconite before.
But Jareth understood.
Jareth’s eyes landed on Allison’s tear-streaked face. Her expression crumpled in despair.
She is crying. So annoying. Irritated, Jareth shifted his eyes to Ronan and said, “Let go.”
Ronan hadn’t even processed what was said before he felt Oliver’s fingers dig into his wrist. The sharp pain forced him to release Allison.
Immediately, she scrambled toward Jareth. Her entire body trembled uncontrollably from fear and distress.
Seeing her shaking so badly, Jareth frowned. He reached out. He pulled her over to his side, and he grabbed a couple of tissues.
Allison was stunned when her chin was suddenly lifted. Her eyes were still wet with tears. Jareth immediately wiped her face carefully.
Ronan happened to witness the whole scene. What the heck is Jareth doing? Since when did Allison and Jareth become close to each other?
For a moment, Ronan was too stunned to react. More than that, he found the sight unbearable. How dare Allison be this intimate with another man right in front of me?
Ronan walked over and grabbed Jareth’s hand. It was the hand that was wiping Allison’s tears. Ronan said in a cold voice, “Jareth, if you really want to piss me off, at least try a smarter way. Running after a woman I don’t want just makes you look pathetic. And honestly? Cheap.”
Before Jareth could speak, Allison shot back, “Okay then. Using your own logic, if I run after a man I don’t want, doesn’t that make Sherrie just as cheap?”
Ronan stared at Allison, stunned. She was actually defending Jareth.
Jareth glanced at Ronan. He smirked, that annoying, half-amused smirk. He finished wiping Allison’s tears. Then he held Allison’s shaking hand in his.
Allison’s fingertips were freezing cold. Jareth’s hand felt burning hot in comparison.
She looked up at him, unsure, like she wanted to say something, but she didn’t pull her hand away.
Ronan’s eyes burned with anger.
Allison isn’t shaking Jareth's hand! Does she seriously think Jareth is a good person?
She might not know what kind of person Jareth was. But she knew he had helped her. If she didn’t side with Jareth, should she side with Ronan instead?
Ronan gritted his teeth in annoyance. His rational mind kept telling him that a heartless woman like her deserved whatever happened to her.
But his eyes said something else. They showed he didn’t want this at all. So… this was Allison? The woman he once almost married? Just a few days after calling off their engagement, she already had another man holding her hand?
“Jareth, Allison, and I were already talking about marriage. So you’d better show some respect. Because if this gets to Grandpa, you won’t get away with it.”
Allison frowned. “Talking about marriage?” she echoed. “What are you even saying?”
Ronan replied in an arrogant tone, “Your mom and brother are arranging it for you. Don’t tell me you don’t know.”
Allison really has no idea about it. No one had told her anything.
When Jareth saw her pale face, he let out a short laugh. “Even people who are engaged can cheat. If you can do it, why can’t others?”
Ronan was speechless as his face turned red. He instinctively glanced at Allison, but she wasn’t defending him like she used to.
Unhappy, Ronan was about to snap back at Jareth when he suddenly noticed something. He reached out and grabbed Jareth’s wrist.
“Why is the bracelet with you?” Ronan’s mind raced. Then he sneered at Allison. “So it was you…”
“You stole the bracelet and gave it away? Then you tried to frame Sherrie? Do you even realize how guilty that made Sherrie feel?” Ronan gave Allison an angry look.
Allison was still thinking about Nigel trying to marry her off. She wasn’t listening to Ronan’s rant at all.
When Ronan saw that she was ignoring him, he shook his head. “Allison, do you know why I came here today? I know the Alphasirox pills matter to you. So I humbled myself. I asked for the medicine for you. But it turns out, you really let me down.”
It sounded like Allison was the one at fault. But if Ronan really meant well, why did he stay silent when Sherrie was fighting her for the medicine?
Allison didn’t want to argue with Ronan in front of so many people. She had already gotten enough attention today.
