Chapter 23 : I Won’t Forgive You

Chapter 23 : I Won’t Forgive You
The memory of Ronan’s lingering glances at Allison made Nigel’s voice drop into a low warning. “If you dare betray Sherrie, I won’t forgive you.”

Sherrie gave Ronan a sorrowful look before lowering her head.

Ronan could never stand seeing her like that. Every time she acted this way, he felt like a complete scumbag.

Compared to that, Allison had always been easier to deal with. Whenever she showed even a hint of dissatisfaction or tried to ignore him, he could scold her first, then soothe her with a few sweet words. In the end, she reconciled with him.

But Sherrie was different. He couldn’t bring himself to speak harshly to her.

With only a few soothing reassurances, Sherrie was soon resting against him again, and they returned to their usual display of affection. But through the reflection on her phone screen, Sherrie noticed Ronan’s eyes drifting toward Allison’s room.

A nervous feeling crept into her chest. She had brought Allison back from the asylum to secure her own high-status marriage, not to let her seduce her man.

“Ronan, I’m worried my sister may have done something she shouldn’t have.” Sherrie furrowed her brows with her face full of fake concern for Allison. “Even you struggled to get the Alphasirox pills. If my sister, an ordinary woman, managed to get them, she must have paid a huge price. If that’s the case, I’d rather not take them.”

For a woman with no advantages to get something completely out of her reach, there was only one possible way she could have done it.

The thought that Allison might have traded her body for the pills made Ronan’s stomach twist with disgust. His voice turned cold. “Once I get a new batch, don’t take these anymore.”

Sherrie nodded obediently.

At that moment, Ella walked into Allison’s room with a bowl of food, only to find it empty.

Allison had already slipped away while everyone was focused on Sherrie. She held a crumpled red banknote in her hand and took a cab straight to the Rogers family’s private hospital.

By nightfall, the hospital lobby only had a few remaining patients.

Allison entered through the back door and took the elevator up. She knew the hospital well. She knew its equipment and its weak spots.

She sat at Nigel’s desk and used his computer to print out a prescription. Then, wearing a mask, she walked to the pharmacy with a calm expression.

The pharmacist, not suspecting anything, filled the order while chatting. “Another late night of tutoring for your sister, Mr. Nigel?”

At first, Allison didn’t understand. Then she remembered the discarded medication bottles in Nigel’s desk drawer.

By hospital rules, all used medication vials had to be fully documented and be properly disposed. The fact that Nigel hadn’t done that meant those drugs were obtained through improper channels.

Nigel was proud of his principles, except when it came to Sherrie.

Those discarded bottles had to be connected to her.

“Here you go with the Epinerate,” the pharmacist said, handing over the medication. “Make sure to test for allergies first. We don’t want another near-accident like last time with the Pentopex shot.”

Allison’s eyes darkened slightly. She let out a soft hum in response, then carried the Epinerate back to Nigel’s office.

Now she understood why it had been so easy to get the prescription filled. And she understood why the Rogers family hospital had faced so many scandals in recent years.

It all traced back to Nigel spoiling Sherrie.

Sherrie had joined the Rogers family at fourteen, unable to read or write.

Toby and Nigel, filled with guilt and affection, got her into a school and forced Allison to tutor her.

But Sherrie’s foundation was too weak, and every exam she took ended in failure.

Eventually, she began to resent school.

To keep her motivated, Toby and Nigel forced Allison to sign Sherrie’s name on her own test papers.

Sherrie’s excellent grades were praised by the whole school, while Allison, taking the blame, was publicly shamed for failing.

But the brothers never noticed Allison’s humiliation. They only thought it was a great idea. They even made her publish medical papers under Sherrie’s name and forced her to let Sherrie accept her competition awards.

All the while, they told her that Sherrie had no citizenship and no official student status, and that Allison needed to let go of her vanity for her sister’s happiness.

Looking back now, Allison realized Sherrie had never actually cared about learning.

Even after three years at university under Allison’s stolen identity, there was no way she could have passed her courses.

Toby and Nigel must have pulled strings to fake her academic success.

Now Sherrie was both a postgraduate student and a hospital intern, and Nigel was surely still covering for her.

Those empty vials were proof that she had been practicing on real patients.

And clearly, breaking medical regulations was nothing new. It was practically common knowledge among the hospital staff.

No wonder the Rogers family hospital’s reputation had fallen. It had been drained dry by Sherrie.

Before this, Allison had thought Sherrie’s actions came from insecurity or jealousy. Now she saw the truth. Sherrie was nothing but a parasite, a leech living off the Rogers family for her benefit.

If this continued, Toby and Nigel would be dragged into prison with her.

Allison injected herself with Epinerate. As the cold liquid spread through her veins, she thought to herself. She didn’t care what happened to Toby and Nigel. But her father’s legacy? She would not let Sherrie sink her teeth into that any longer.

To take back power, she needed leverage.

After dropping out of school, Allison had wasted three years. Her future was ruined.

But she refused to fall into despair. Her father had once said, “The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The second best time is now.”

The same was true for learning.

Sherrie wanted to destroy me? Fine. Then I would rise beyond Sherrie’s reach.

Allison clenched the pill in her hand, wearing a blank expression.

If she wanted to escape the Rogers family’s control, she needed a way out.

The next morning, she finally returned home.

Nigel was already furious. The moment he saw her walking casually through the door, he charged toward her. “Allison, you really think you’re something, huh? You didn’t come home all night? I almost thought you were dead!”

Allison knew she was about to be scolded. Lowering her voice, she said, “My brother, I just went out for some air.”

That single “Brother” made Nigel pause mid-kick.

She had been back in this house for a couple of days, yet this was the first time she had called me this way.

But he wasn’t going to fall for her tricks. He assumed she was just trying to avoid punishment. Nigel scoffed, “For some air? Nice try. It looked more like you were getting some fresh air on some old man’s lap.”
