Chapter 167 Have You Ever Regretted Over These Years?
Amelia lowered her eyes slightly.
Forget it, he had already fallen in love with someone else. What good would it do to know all that?
Did she really expect him to feel guilty toward her?
If guilt could make him return what belonged to her, then when he learned the truth about that tanzanite, he wouldn't have delayed any further.
Telling him would only give him one more card to use against her.
There was no need to stay any longer. She had many things to do.
Whether it was the bet with Isabella this time, or Briar's surgery in a few days, these were all things she needed to worry about.
She wouldn't waste another thought on William.
Amelia withdrew her gaze and was about to walk out when William frowned and tried to follow.
Amelia let out a cold laugh and looked at Alvin beside her.
"Didn't you say you wanted to help me?" she said. "Then help me hold him back."
Alvin showed a slightly surprised smile, then bowed slightly: "As you wish."
Then he turned around and punched William directly in the face.
William had no defense whatsoever. Caught completely off guard by Alvin's punch, he staggered back several steps and knocked over a coffee table. Various items on it crashed to the floor and shattered, making a tremendous noise.
The office door was immediately thrown open.
"Mr. Brown!"
"William!"
Rhys and Felicity rushed in together. What they saw was William knocked to the ground, with Alvin rubbing his fist and smiling at Amelia.
Rhys immediately went to help William up.
Felicity glared fiercely at Amelia: "What on earth are you doing!"
Amelia smiled indifferently: "As you can see."
Alvin on the side made a gentlemanly bow, smiling at Amelia.
Felicity's anger intensified.
"Amelia, I've been meaning to say this—can you please notify us before you do things?" Felicity's voice was full of anger. "Do you know this is irresponsible behavior! Do you know how much chaos this brings to the company?"
Amelia looked at Felicity and said, "You know William and I are already divorced?"
"So?" Felicity shot back.
"You found out from my social media post?" Amelia continued asking.
"Yes." Felicity replied, suppressing her anger.
"So you saw the date on the inside of my divorce certificate?" Amelia said coldly.
This time Felicity didn't answer.
Amelia glanced at William, who was pushing Rhys away and standing up with a dark expression.
"Not making it public on the day we got the certificate was already my mercy."
"So, Felicity." Amelia said word by word, "If you have a temper, take it out on the person you should. I am not your punching bag."
Felicity's face turned red with anger listening to what Amelia was saying. She opened her mouth to say something, but Amelia immediately cut her off.
"Got it?" Amelia's voice was light, but carried a heavy warning.
Her face seemed calm, but those eyes were cold as ice.
When Felicity saw them, her heart skipped a beat.
In that instant, she truly felt that if she dared to provoke Amelia again, the other woman would really destroy her.
Inexplicably, she felt that Amelia could really do it.
Though there was no reason for it.
In just a moment of distraction, Amelia had already withdrawn her gaze.
She glanced at William, who was wiping the blood from where he'd been hit, said nothing, turned around, and strode out of there.
William still wanted to chase after her, but Alvin was already blocking his way.
And rubbing his right hand.
While smiling.
Outside the door were the sounds of Amelia's high heels as she left. Inside the door, two men faced off.
Rhys didn't know what to do, and Felicity looked at Alvin with reddened eyes. Finally, she rushed out, trying to catch up with Amelia.
But she was destined not to catch up.
Amelia had already entered the elevator. The elevator doors closed and it rapidly descended.
As the elevator reached its floor, Amelia walked out of the Brown Group, but she didn't leave immediately. Instead, she waited outside the main entrance.
About a minute later, another elevator door opened again, and Alvin walked out.
He also walked out of the building, then saw Amelia's figure.
He walked straight toward Amelia.
"Want to talk?" Alvin said.
Amelia glanced at where York had parked, then pointed to a nearby spot where there weren't many people.
The two stood still.
"Why?" Alvin asked.
Amelia knew what he was referring to, but she didn't answer directly. Instead, she looked Alvin up and down.
"Alvin." she said. "Why did you come back to the country?"
Alvin didn't speak, just looked at her.
"Don't give me that nonsense about coming back because you found out I got divorced."
"You were doing great in the overseas market. There's no need to come back domestically."
Amelia didn't look away. She said, "If I'm not wrong, something happened on Seraphim's side?"
Alvin finally smiled, helplessly: "Sharp-tongued, really a little fox."
He reached out and took out a small wooden carving of a fox.
"For you." he said. "A gift for coming back to the country."
"I think it's quite fitting."
Amelia reached out and took it.
The fox was indeed lifelike, but you could still tell it was hand-carved by him.
Just like that wine.
"I was originally planning to bring that wine to you." As if guessing her thoughts, he said, "Unfortunately Felicity brought it back first."
Alvin looked at her and said, "Do you like it?"
Amelia looked at the wooden fox carving, noncommittal.
The sunlight fell on her profile, but he saw the sadness in her eyes hidden by her long lashes.
He knew she was thinking about that child again.
"Later." he said. "I worked very hard."
Amelia still just looked at the wooden fox carving.
"Like you said, I put away my playful heart and truly pursued what I wanted, what I wanted to control, to love, to protect the people I wanted to protect."
"It took a very long time."
"Many, many years."
He smiled, but there was sadness in his eyes.
"But I still couldn't find the person you mentioned."
"Amelia."
"That person you mentioned that autumn, from beginning to end, never appeared in my life."
Amelia's gaze moved from the wooden fox carving to a point on the ground.
The sunlight was still glaring, but Amelia's eyes were full of shadows.
"What I said at the Brown Group just now wasn't entirely a lie."
Alvin said: "I look down on William. These years of dealings with the Brown Group, the contract renewals, were only because of you."
"That bet back then changed my life."
"So what about you?"
He looked at Amelia, not missing any subtle expression on her face.
"Did you get what you wanted?"
"Are you still as determined as you were back then?"
His eyes were slightly red as he said softly:
"All these years, have you ever regretted it?"
