Chapter 160: William: Who Will the Jenkins Family Marry?
On the other side, Amelia was watching Briar while talking on the phone with Skylar.
"Yes, Dr. Tate, I also think I've become much more stable," Amelia said softly. In her mind appeared the scene from last night of Briar and York painting together.
"Maybe I should start a new relationship too," she said.
But Skylar on the other end remained silent, which Amelia found a bit strange.
At the nursing home, William had already knocked lightly on the office door and was standing at the entrance with Isabella.
Skylar was Amelia's therapist and knew more or less about what happened between Amelia and William.
And Amelia's husband, William, this famous figure in Shadow City, she knew very well too.
So...
What was William doing here with Isabella?
After thinking for a moment, Skylar said to Amelia on the phone, "Something's come up on my end. Sorry, can I call you back later?"
Amelia didn't think much of it and agreed.
After hanging up, Skylar looked at William and Isabella at the door.
"Can I help you?" Skylar asked.
William frowned slightly. Hadn't they made an appointment with a doctor?
Isabella was about to speak when footsteps approached.
"Sorry," another staff member came over. "I gave you the wrong number just now. It's this one."
The staff member switched the numbers back, and William understood.
"Sorry," the staff member said to them both, then nodded to Skylar.
Only then did William take Isabella to the office next door.
Skylar stepped out and exchanged a glance with the staff member.
"That new guy made another mistake," the other person said helplessly. "Can't even give out a number correctly. I'm seriously speechless."
Skylar smiled and comforted them, "He's here to gain experience. Cut him some slack."
"No way, I have to report this to management and get him transferred to some idle position. Otherwise, dealing with these things every day is driving me crazy." After saying this, the person hurried off.
Skylar watched them leave, then her gaze fell on the office next door.
...
Inside the office next door.
William accompanied Isabella through the diagnosis, which took some time.
Isabella had already shown signs of wrist-cutting—it was severe.
She needed medication and appropriate treatment.
William's brow was tightly furrowed.
Isabella calmly exchanged a glance with the doctor.
Last night she and Zaid had looked into this nursing home.
It had strong confidentiality, but because it was private, there was some room for manipulation.
This doctor was someone Zaid had found for her.
And because Isabella had already cut her wrists, plus her stomach cancer, no one doubted her condition.
"William, I'm fine," Isabella forced a smile, holding William's hand. "Anyway, I was already..."
She stopped mid-sentence. William's brow remained furrowed.
He looked at the doctor. "Is there a good treatment and control plan?"
Because Isabella didn't want to take medication.
She refused no matter what.
The doctor sighed softly and said, "I'll do my best."
After the diagnosis, William asked Isabella to wait outside for him.
In the office, William looked at the doctor. "Her condition—is it impossible without medication?"
The doctor nodded. "For severe cases, it's hard to control without medication."
William lowered his eyes slightly, seemingly lost in thought.
They discussed some related matters, and finally the doctor said, "I'll consult with other doctors, and then we'll send you a report and treatment plan."
Only then did William nod.
"Leave an address," the doctor said. "To protect user privacy and prevent information leaks, our internal system isn't connected to the outside world, so the report from our follow-up discussions will be mailed to the address in paper form."
William understood and left the address of the apartment next to the Brown Group.
After confirming the address, William came out and looked down at Isabella.
"Let's go," he said.
Then he left with Isabella.
Skylar saw it all.
She didn't pry into others' medical conditions, just quietly observed.
Just as she thought they'd left and was about to close her office door, Isabella came back.
This time she was alone.
Skylar frowned slightly, finding it strange, but she just calmly got some water.
This time the door to the office next door wasn't closed, and Isabella's voice drifted out in fragments.
"Yes..."
"Like this..."
"Change it to my address..."
"Floral Haven..."
Then she said something else inaudible before hurrying away again.
Skylar didn't know what they were up to.
She felt there was something fishy about it.
But she was a professional, so she didn't say anything.
She just thought that next time Amelia came, she could ask about visitors and help her avoid running into them.
...
Outside the nursing home in the parking lot, William was waiting in the car for Isabella.
She'd said she needed to use the restroom.
He was idly looking at his phone.
Suddenly a piece of gossip came in.
It was a message from Harold.
"I heard some major gossip!" Harold sent a voice message. "You know York? He's been making moves lately—planning a drone fireworks show, preparing restaurant gifts and a yacht, plus all kinds of things for an engagement. Looks like he's planning a marriage alliance!"
Listening to this, William recalled the conversation he'd overheard from the Jenkins family people at The Sound of Heaven finals.
It seemed York really did have intentions in that direction.
Though at the time, from what they said, the woman hadn't agreed yet.
Thinking about all the preparations Harold mentioned, he was probably courting her.
William tapped the screen and sent: "Which family is the marriage alliance with?"
The Jenkins Group was one of Shadow City's three major powers. A marriage alliance was sensitive—it often meant the two families would have deep binding cooperation.
Harold replied immediately: "Don't know. The Jenkins family's secrecy is impressive. Couldn't get a word out of even Otis."
William frowned slightly.
Just then, sounds of an argument came from the nursing home's front desk. He glanced over but couldn't tell what they were arguing about.
Soon after, Isabella returned.
"William, sorry for keeping you waiting," Isabella said with a smile.
William put down his phone, started the car, and left.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
Evergreen Hospital.
Dash was walking past a corridor when he suddenly heard people talking about something.
"Yeah, that Isabella, really strange."
"I still can't figure out why she sees doctors that way. It doesn't make sense."
