Chapter 158 Amelia Said: Save It for the Day We Confirm Our Relationship
Amelia suddenly remembered that when she was with William, there never seemed to be moments like this.
Or maybe it was because back then, there were no children around them.
Here, York had already made plans with Briar.
Then he looked up and asked her, "Does this time and place work for you?"
Only then did Amelia snap back to reality, remembering their conversation. She nodded.
Briar went back to studying the paintings over there, leaving Amelia and York standing face to face.
Amelia suddenly realized that there were only the three of them in the office now.
It felt a bit strange.
"Where's Mia?" Amelia randomly picked a topic.
"When I came over, she had a stomachache, so she asked me to help watch Briar for a bit. She'll be back soon," York answered.
Amelia glanced at the surveillance camera that had been recording the whole time and blinked.
Alright then.
Amelia nodded and continued asking, "Mr. Jenkins, are you here to visit a friend, or are you not feeling well?"
But York just smiled. He said, "I came to find you."
Amelia frowned slightly and didn't say anything more, just looked at him.
"Are you free?" York smiled gently and said, "I brought some things. I need to go down to the open area."
He paused briefly, then added, "With Briar."
Amelia thought about it and nodded.
Taking Briar along meant it probably wasn't anything that needed to be kept private.
"I'll leave a note for Mia," Amelia said, then went to write on a desk nearby.
"Okay," York replied, looking down as she wrote the note.
...
At this moment, on the other side.
William still stood in the same spot, blood constantly dripping from the corner of his mouth. The ground in front of him was covered with spots of blood.
Someone passing by saw him like this and immediately called a nurse.
The nurse took him to get cleaned up.
After applying medicine and giving him an ice pack for his face, the doctor finally let him go.
William sat on a chair at the edge of the corridor, holding the ice pack against his face, not sure what he was feeling.
He just stared blankly through a nearby window at the open area outside.
Someone walked out from a nearby hospital room.
The person sat down beside him.
"William," a voice came.
William looked up to see Isabella, her face pale.
"Why did you come out?" William frowned slightly, looking at her bandaged wrist and asking.
But Isabella just looked at his face.
"What happened to your face?" Isabella said with red-rimmed eyes. "How did you get hurt so badly?"
William shook his head, still looking at her wrist.
"My hand is bandaged," Isabella said, following his gaze. "It's nothing, it will heal."
"I'm sorry, William, it's all my fault," she said with red eyes. "I caused trouble again."
William avoided Isabella's hand. He lowered his eyes slightly.
"Isabella," he spoke.
"What is it?" Isabella responded.
"Don't do foolish things anymore, okay?" he said.
Isabella smiled weakly and "reluctantly." She said, "I know."
"It's just..." she looked pitiful yet beautiful, "at that time, I don't know what happened, I couldn't quite control my emotions."
"But I'll work on managing them," she said.
William looked up, his eyes fixed on her.
Isabella felt a bit uneasy.
"What's wrong, William?" she said.
William looked away, turning back to the window.
He shook his head and said nothing.
Outside the window, several figures suddenly appeared in the distant open area.
But they were too far away. He couldn't see who they were or what they were doing.
Yet somehow, those three small dots had a strange power that captured his attention.
...
On the other side.
Amelia, Briar, and York came to the open area together.
York went to the side and somehow pulled out a bag from somewhere.
Amelia held Briar's hand, looking at him curiously.
"Good thing I hid it here and it wasn't taken away," York said, pulling out several canister-like things from inside.
"What are these?" Amelia looked over curiously.
York handed them to her to see. "Fireworks, not the kind that shoot up into the sky with huge sounds, but they'll make a little bit of noise."
He looked at Briar beside them and handed another one to Briar, saying, "Can Briar watch these?"
Amelia looked at these fireworks—the kind you place on the ground that shoot out sparks. She was thinking about it without speaking when Briar nodded.
"I can," Briar said.
Amelia also checked with Mia, and after getting an okay, she nodded.
York had already gone to set them up in the open area.
Amelia held Briar in her arms and covered Briar's ears.
Lighting the fuses, the fireworks bloomed on the ground.
They burned in clusters, creating beautiful cascades of sparks and flowers.
Briar laughed, clapping happily.
Amelia also smiled and released her hands from Briar's ears.
Watching those burning clusters of sparks, the sadness from before faded quite a bit.
"I had originally prepared a drone fireworks show for today," York stood beside her, saying softly. "But later... it couldn't be used. I thought about it and felt unwilling to give up, so I brought these few to find you."
Amelia looked at the still-blooming sparks. She knew what he was talking about.
Isabella's wrist-cutting incident had caused such a big scene. If they set off a large fireworks display to celebrate for her, Amelia, at this time, it would cause another storm when word got out.
"Why?" she asked.
"I heard that on your wedding day with him, and the night before your divorce, there were fireworks."
He said, "I know he hurt you deeply. I don't want you to think of him every time you see fireworks in the future."
"So I thought, on the day you won The Sound of Heaven championship, I'd prepare a unique fireworks show for you. That way, when you see fireworks in the future, what you think of might become today's victory."
He paused slightly, then added, "And me."
Amelia looked at the burning sparks. They were still so vibrant, bursting with countless brilliant sparks.
She slowly turned her head, shifting her gaze from the sparks to York's face beside her.
From beginning to end, he hadn't looked at the fireworks. His eyes had been on her the whole time.
He smiled. "It's just a pity that in the end, they couldn't be used."
His refined and handsome face flickered in and out of light under the reflection of the fireworks.
Only those eyes remained constant, always looking at her.
With a touch of sadness and a touch of helplessness.
His eyes reflected only her image.
Suddenly, she smiled.
Hadn't she said she wanted to start a new life?
She thought perhaps she should make some changes too.
