Chapter 101: William, Can You Let Me Go?

Chapter 101: William, Can You Let Me Go?

Amelia wanted to walk past William and go inside, but he blocked her way again.

"I already know Felicity told you about the Martinez family." He grabbed Amelia's wrist and said.

Hearing "the Martinez family," Amelia paused slightly and looked at him.

Waiting for his answer.

"She won't take that position." The night wind lifted William's hair as he said, "When you come back, it will still be yours."

Come back?

Amelia carefully studied the expression on William's face.

But she didn't want to return to the Brown Group anymore.

She'd had enough!

William's expression remained unchanged as he observed her face too.

But he suddenly realized he couldn't read her anymore.

The wind blew gently, sweeping up fallen leaves from the ground.

"And then what?" Amelia said.

"And then?" William frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and said, "Isabella wanted to see me, but I didn't go on purpose."

Amelia laughed.

Felicity had waved her phone right in front of her face. She'd glanced at it then - they had planned it together.

Now he was telling her Isabella didn't do it on purpose?

Was he a poor judge of character, or did he think she was really that easy to fool?

Not wanting to deal with this anymore, Amelia forcefully shook off William's hand and walked toward the hallway.

William tried to block her again.

"William." Amelia had had enough. She stared hard at William in front of her. "From the night you mentioned divorce until now, I haven't bothered you."

"It's you!"

Amelia's fists clenched tight.

"It's you who kept creating publicity during our marriage, making it known to everyone. Haven't you heard or seen what people are saying about me?"

Watching William's furrowed brow, his eyes, and his silence, Amelia smiled. She looked away from him and instead looked at a spider weaving its web in the corner of the hallway.

"I know you understand her, feel sorry for her, love her deeply. You said she only has six months left."

"So can I please ask you both to spend these last six months together quietly?"

Amelia said seriously:

"Let me go, okay?"

After saying this, Amelia left.

William reached out again, but in the end, he didn't grab her.

He let her go.

He watched her walk all the way to the elevator. The elevator doors slowly closed, and she disappeared from view.

William stood there alone for a long time.

Amelia's words kept echoing in his mind.

He had come to explain things clearly to Amelia, but in that moment just now, he realized that all his explanations seemed useless.

Simply because, before telling her the truth, before Isabella passed away, all explanations were in vain.

William clenched his fists. Her warmth still lingered on his hands, but it seemed he could never hold onto her again.

He looked up at the spot she had been looking at.

The spider in the corner had finished its web and now sat in the center, waiting for prey to come.

Whatever.

He could understand why she was angry today.

He'd find another chance to talk later.

William looked away.

He closed his eyes and steadied himself a bit.

When he opened them again, his expression was calm.

William got back into the Maybach but didn't start the car.

He looked up at the light in the apartment Amelia was renting.

He wanted to stay here.

Even if he did nothing.

After Amelia finished her bath, she lay down on the bed.

She knew William was still downstairs.

But she didn't want to deal with him.

The night breeze blew gently.

The night passed just like that.

It had rained at some point during the night, leaving the ground wet.

When Amelia looked downstairs the next morning, she found the rain had stopped and the Maybach was gone.

Only a dry patch on the wet ground remained, telling her a car had been parked there last night.

So be it.

Live well.

Work hard.

Amelia thought.

...

Time flew by quickly.

Soon, the fourth live broadcast of The Sound of Heaven arrived.

This was also the 27th day of Amelia and William's divorce cooling-off period.

In the studio, William showed up as usual.

Sitting in the same seat as the previous three times.

York, Otis, and Xyla also came.

Isabella greeted them all, but after the previous incident, the three Jenkins family members didn't react much. When they saw Isabella coming, they walked past and took their seats.

Especially Xyla and Otis, who kept talking about something, making it impossible for anyone to interrupt.

So Isabella could only talk to William.

Amelia was already prepared.

This was the semi-finals - six people would be cut in half, leaving the top three.

Amelia stood quietly in the backstage dressing room area.

She looked at the message Isabella had just sent to the Lika account on her phone—

[Today is your last chance.]

Then she looked at the two people talking over there. The smile on Isabella's face was especially sweet.

Since that unpleasant parting that day, the two hadn't been in contact again.

William hadn't gone looking for Amelia, and Amelia certainly hadn't acknowledged him either.

Between them, they seemed to have completely become strangers.

This was fine too.

It would make it easier to get the divorce certificate in three days.

After giving instructions everywhere, Jeffrey thought for a moment and went to the audience area to chat with the Jenkins family.

Previously, the Jenkins family wasn't an investor in The Sound of Heaven, but just a day ago, they suddenly joined.

Not as profit-sharing partners, but as advertisers.

After all, whether it was ads inserted during the live broadcast or in the edited version later, the more sponsors the better.

As one of Shadow City's three major powers, controlling the jewelry and luxury goods industry, the Jenkins family naturally offered a good price.

Because it was rather sudden, Jeffrey came over to ask about it.

After chatting for a while, Jeffrey was about to head backstage.

But as he passed William, he was stopped.

Isabella had already left by then, and William was alone in his seat.

"What is it?" Jeffrey really disliked William now and didn't want to give him a pleasant look.

Noticing Jeffrey's hostility, William frowned slightly.

"I want to ask you, what's your relationship with Amelia?" William's sharp eyes studied Jeffrey's expression, judging whether he was telling the truth. "And what's the deal with that Lika?"

Jeffrey couldn't help but roll his eyes.

He originally wanted to say "none of your business," but felt he shouldn't be too impulsive, so he held back and said, "This has nothing to do with you."

"Amelia is my wife."

Jeffrey couldn't hold back anymore. With a very surprised look, he pointed at Isabella in the distance and said, "Then who is she?"

His tone seemed shocked, but was full of sarcasm.

What kind of person was this, still having the nerve to ask him!
