Chapter 299: Already Shared a Pillow with Him

Chapter 299: Already Shared a Pillow with Him

The warm glow of lights filled the tea room, while steam rose from the teacups on the nearby table, releasing a gentle tea scent

Amelia looked down at William in front of her.

He knelt there, his head, once held high with pride, now hung low.

He kept his head down, unable to say a word.

York, standing nearby, saw this scene and frowned.

York pressed his lips together, glanced at Amelia beside him, then turned and walked to a corner. From there, he could keep watch in case anything happened while giving them space to talk.

He sat down and examined the various teas placed in the tea room, pretending he didn't seen anything.

On the other side, William heard York's footsteps fade away. He clenched his fists.

"Please," he said.

"Forgive me, okay?" His voice hitched as emotion overcame him.

He lifted his head to look at Amelia, humble and fragile.

His eyes held a sadness she'd never seen before, his voice full of pleading.

The trees in the courtyard swayed softly in the breeze, sunlight sifting through the leaves and casting shifting, dappled shadows over the two of them as they alternated between light and dark.

"Amelia..." he called her name, his eyes red-rimmed

"What happened before was my fault."

He said painfully, "That day... I didn't know I... our child..."

He couldn't continue.

His eyes grew redder, and William closed them in pain.

"It was my fault, and I never came to see you after." He reached up and held Amelia's hand.

William opened his eyes again and said softly, "Give me another chance to make up for everything, please?"

Amelia's gaze moved away from William to the tea on the table beside them.

"It's too late," Amelia said quietly.

She couldn't pretend the past never happened.

What was lost could never come back.

Too much stood between them now. They could never go back to how things were.

His grip on her hand tightened.

Amelia lowered her eyes slightly and looked back at William.

This was the first time she'd seen him so humble.

He looked like a pitiful dog begging for mercy.

Completely different from the proud William of before.

She said, "William, between us lies a life."

Her gaze glanced to where he held her hand. "Let go," she said softly.

"We ended a long time ago."

But William shook his head.

He struggled to find the right words, but having never bowed his head before, how could he find the right vocabulary?

Even though he was completely sincere now, wanting to use everything to win her back.

Her covered in blood, the child they lost...

She was right. Between them lay their child's life.

"We..." After a long pause, William spoke again, his voice extremely rough. "Amelia, we... can make up for the past. We'll have a third child, okay?"

Amelia felt a sting in her nose as her eyes grew red.

William said, "We'll start over. This time, let me love you properly. I'll be good to you, good to our child. I swear on everything I have."

Wind blew in through the window, gently brushing against them both.

"William, I don't want to have children with you anymore."

"Amelia..." his voice trembled.

"Don't think about these things anymore," Amelia said with pity. "Bless me and him, okay?"

"Just like how I let go and blessed you and Isabella."

"William, I could do it, and so can you."

"I can't!" William said, tears streaming from his eyes. "Amelia, I can't do it."

As if remembering something, he said, "Amelia, do you remember how we started?"

"Our seven years."

"We were so good together. You once said you'd stay with me."

"But you haven't called me that way in so long."

"Could you... call me that way just one more time?"

Amelia looked at William.

Seven years.

How many sets of seven years does a life have?

But she had already made her decision.

She didn't want to go backward.

"I can't," Amelia said softly. "William, I loved you once, and I once wanted to spend my life with you."

"But that was in the past."

William moved forward. "The past can also be the future. If we start over, love can come back, we can have children again, we..."

"We can't," Amelia interrupted William.

She took a deep breath.

"Even if I have children, it won't be with you," Amelia said.

William didn't know what to say for a moment.

The next moment, Amelia spoke, "I slept with him."

"What?" William didn't understand what she meant.

Didn't believe it?

Amelia dropped her gaze a little and used her other hand to tug at her collar.

She revealed the marks York had left on her body during their passion last night.

William stared at those marks, his eyes Red-rimmed

Amelia released her collar and lifted her shirt slightly, showing him the marks on her waist.

"See?" she said.

William Clenched his teeth, unable to speak.

He could only look at her, emotionally broken.

He wanted to say she was lying.

But deep down, he knew she was telling the truth.

Actually, he had known all along that this day would come.

It was he who couldn't let go.

He who didn't want to think about it.

William's eyes were terrifyingly red. Amelia looked at him with pity.

"William, you can find someone better later. Move forward."

She said, "I'll move forward with him, and you... need to look ahead too."

"I'm tired. I don't want to think about the past anymore."

Amelia pulled her hand from his.

Looking at his pitiful state.

She said, "William, he's very good to me."

"Really good."

With that, Amelia turned and walked toward York.

York watched Amelia approach. He put the tea away and placed it back on the shelf.

He stood up to meet Amelia.

"Finished talking?" York asked gently.

Actually, he had heard everything. Though there was some distance, they were still in the same space.

But he planned to pretend he hadn't heard.

If everything could become the past, what did it matter if he pretended to be deaf?

"Yes," Amelia nodded.

She looked at his gentle expression and reached out, taking his hand on her own.

"Let's go back," she said.

"Okay," York said, reaching out with his other hand to smooth her hair.

He smiled at her.
