Chapter 129: Amelia, Will You Marry Me?

Chapter 129: Amelia, Will You Marry Me?

William didn't respond, just looked at her with a complicated expression.

"I'll come find you in five months," he said.

Amelia remained noncommittal.

"Go back," she said, and walked down the steps first.

William stood on the steps watching Amelia's retreating figure. He watched the sunlight fall on her, coating her with a golden edge. For some reason, he felt a bit sad.

Just then, William's phone started vibrating.

He took out his phone and saw Isabella's name on the caller ID.

In his other hand was his and Amelia's divorce certificate.

When William looked up again, Amelia had already turned the corner and disappeared from sight.

William shook his head, pushing the strange thoughts out of his mind.

Amelia loved him.

She couldn't leave him.

Besides, Isabella only had 5 months left.

Not much longer now.

With that thought, William answered Isabella's call.

"William," Isabella's voice came through the phone. "Did everything go smoothly?"

William glanced at the divorce certificate in his hand.

"Yes," he replied.

...

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Amelia returned to her car. Sitting in the driver's seat, she thought for a moment, then took out the divorce certificate, snapped a photo of it, and posted it in their group chat.

Amelia: Successfully got the divorce certificate.

Immediately, the congratulations poured in—

Mia: Amazing! Applause, applause! Congratulations to Amelia for successfully leaving that bad man. Happy divorce!

Jeffrey: Amelia, well done! Finally free from William!

Soren: Congrats Amelia on starting your new life!

Dash: Congrats Amelia on being single again! Congratulations!

Hawk: Awesome, your hard times are finally over. Congrats, Amelia!

Jeffrey: Let's have dinner together tonight, my treat! Such great news deserves a proper celebration!

...

Amelia looked at everyone's congratulations in the group chat, feeling warm inside, and replied a few times.

After a while, she finally put down her phone and prepared to drive away.

But just then, she noticed someone standing by her car.

She didn't know how long he'd been waiting there. Only when he saw her look up did he wave his hand to get her attention.

It was York.

What was he waiting here for?

Amelia found it strange. Thinking about it, aside from their previous encounters and confrontations in business, she and York basically had no other personal connection.

And even in business, she had gone as William's person.

If you removed Amelia's identity, there was only Lika.

But Lika always wore a mask, and he had only accompanied Otis and the others to see the live show.

All this flashed through her mind in just a second. Then she rolled down the window and smiled at York.

"Mr. Jenkins, can I help you?" Amelia said.

York looked at Amelia's innocent appearance and found it amusing.

"Want to chat?" York said with a light laugh.

Amelia wasn't sure what York was up to.

Shadow City's three major powers were the Brown family, the Adams family, and the Jenkins family.

The Brown family, led by William, was transforming and outpacing the other two.

The Adams family and the Jenkins family were evenly matched.

However, the two families had completely different approaches to cultivating the next generation.

The Adams family had Jeffrey and his two brothers competing fiercely, with the winner taking all.

The Jenkins family had three people working together to grow and strengthen the Jenkins Group.

But Amelia knew things weren't that simple.

Although Otis had that goofy big dog personality, being born into a major family, he couldn't possibly know nothing.

Xyla was also a very capable woman. The Jenkins family dealt in gems, luxury goods, and such, and Xyla's reputation was no joke.

Someone who could make Otis and Xyla willingly submit wasn't incompetent.

Usually, Otis and Xyla handled Jenkins family affairs, and York was very mysterious.

All she knew was that he was 29 years old, had spent some years abroad earlier, and only recently returned to lead the Jenkins Group.

Thinking this, Amelia felt she should go find out more first, so she said, "Another day?"

The smile on York's face didn't fade. He said, "Could you spare a little time for me?"

He paused slightly and said, "Amelia, or should I say, Lika?"

The smile on Amelia's face froze slightly, but she immediately covered it up.

"I think you've got the wrong person, Mr. Jenkins?" Amelia said with a smile. "I have heard of Lika though—isn't she some pretty talented singer recently?"

York shook his head and said with a smile, "I haven't got the wrong person."

"After I accompanied Otis to see the live show, I knew who you were."

"Later I put in some effort to investigate, and during the third livestream, I went again to confirm."

"Is that enough?"

He was still smiling, looking at her, appearing gentle and refined.

But Amelia didn't dare take him lightly.

Being able to speak in such detail meant he had indeed confirmed her identity.

Amelia knew she had to have this conversation today.

She nodded, "Alright."

"I've booked afternoon tea," York said.

Amelia nodded, got out of the car, and followed York to a nearby discreet and elegant restaurant.

"Mr. Jenkins."

"Hello, Mr. Jenkins."

People there greeted York when they saw him.

Obviously they knew him.

York nodded in acknowledgment to all of them.

Amelia, full of questions, followed behind York.

Finally, they arrived at a private room.

After the food was served, the door to the private room was closed.

"Why is Mr. Jenkins suddenly interested in me? Why investigate me?" The table was filled with aromatic treats as Amelia looked at York and asked.

York didn't answer immediately, but reached out to pick up a cup of coffee.

"Actually, we've met many times, but back then you were always by William's side," York said.

Amelia nodded. That was true.

"I always thought William was lucky to have you. I've always been envious."

Amelia looked at York, not knowing what he meant by this.

"I was also at that charity auction gala," York continued. "That night I saw that woman called Lika. That bidding war performance, the psychological game—it was perfect. That's when I got curious."

"But I heard Lika was Jeffrey's woman. Though I felt it was a shame, I didn't think much of it, until Otis dragged me to see Lika's live show."

"That's when I noticed something odd. Then, as I just told you, I slowly confirmed your identity."

So it was because of that auction.

Amelia lowered her eyes slightly, watching York's movements.

"So, Mr. Jenkins, why did you want to see me today?" she asked.

"Just call me York."

York said this, then smiled, "First, congratulations on your divorce."

"And then," York picked up the coffee and handed it to Amelia, saying, "Would you consider marrying me?"
