Chapter 127 The Divorce Cooling-off Period Has Ended
Amelia looked at him. He was staring at the rain outside the window, not looking at her.
"Love," she said.
But that was in the past.
Now, she had decided to guard her heart.
She just didn't need to tell him that.
And she didn't want any complications tomorrow.
He turned his head and watched Amelia open the car door and walk into the rain.
The old members of the Martinez family were still at the Brown Group. Investigating Jasper's cause of death also required support.
She needed him, needed the Brown family.
He believed that in five months, when he told her the whole truth and explained everything properly, she would understand.
She loved him. She couldn't leave him.
Amelia had already followed Mia and Dash into the rain.
The rain was heavy. Even though they had borrowed umbrellas, they still got a bit wet.
"I'll go get the car," Dash said.
Mia handed him the keys.
Dash went to get the car with his umbrella while Amelia and Mia stood under the eaves.
Amelia was shaking rainwater off her pants when Mia noticed her slightly red eyes. After thinking for a moment, Mia asked, "What did he say to you?"
"Some things from the past," Amelia answered calmly. "And he said he knew about the car accident, explained that he didn't push me on purpose."
Mia got a bit anxious. "You're not going to forgive him, are you?"
"Bringing up the past again, saying it wasn't on purpose—Amelia, he's terrible! He hurt you so badly..."
After shaking off the water, Amelia stood up straight and smiled at Mia. She patted Mia's shoulder. "How could I?"
"Tomorrow morning at 9, we're going to get our divorce certificate," Amelia said.
Mia looked carefully at Amelia's expression. Once she was sure Amelia wasn't lying, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Mia gripped Amelia's hand firmly and said, "You've suffered too much with him. For someone who's not worth it, don't look back."
Amelia's heart ached a little. She gripped Mia's hand tightly with her other hand and nodded hard.
"Yes."
Dash quickly brought the car around.
They returned the umbrellas to the police station, then hurried into the car.
On the other side, Rhys also borrowed an umbrella and came to William's side.
"Mr. Brown." Rhys got into the driver's seat and wiped the rain off himself. "How did it go talking with Mrs. Brown?"
But William didn't answer. He just stared at the rain outside the car window, silent.
He didn't even know what he was feeling right now.
Seeing this, Rhys didn't say more. He just drove over first, returned the umbrella, and learned that the lawyer still had some things to handle. After giving some instructions, he started the car again and drove William back.
The rain was coming down hard. Isabella was pacing back and forth at home.
She hadn't been able to reach him on the phone since earlier.
His last text message told her there might be some trouble recently and he might not contact her for a long time.
And that he had already taken care of those people.
"Damn it!"
Isabella was angry.
"Where did he take care of anything!"
Isabella muttered under her breath, watching the news on TV. The person who was hit by the car was still being resuscitated, life or death unknown.
And they had already started searching for him.
Even if he could barely escape, it would be hard for him to operate in this area in the future.
Not to mention they were already conducting a manhunt.
"Good thing this heavy rain came. Hopefully it'll wash away some evidence," Isabella said softly.
Thinking about it, Isabella lay back down on the bed.
What was William's situation right now?
"Tomorrow, they should be able to get the divorce certificate smoothly, right?" Isabella said to herself.
She had already planned it all out. Once they got the divorce certificate, she would marry William.
This was her "dying wish." William should agree.
That way, she would be William's wife!
Thinking about it, a longing smile appeared on Isabella's face.
...
The heavy rain washed over the city.
The whole world was damp.
Dash and Mia first took Amelia back to her rental place.
Amelia had taken a taxi there earlier, so her car was still here.
"Should I stay with you?" Mia asked worriedly.
Amelia shook her head.
"I'm fine. You were scared today too. Go back, take a hot bath, get a good night's sleep, and don't get sick," Amelia said.
Mia nodded. Yes, she was also afraid she might have nightmares at night and scare Amelia.
"We'll go then. Call me if anything comes up," Mia said with concern.
Amelia smiled and nodded, saying again that she was fine.
She stood there alone for a while, watching them drive away.
Finally, she slowly turned around and walked wearily toward the elevator.
...
On the other side, Rhys asked carefully, "Mr. Brown, where should we go now?"
William didn't know how to answer.
Rhys was also troubled.
Just then...
William's phone vibrated.
He took out his phone and saw it was Isabella calling.
He didn't really want to answer.
But remembering something, he still pressed the answer button.
"William." Isabella's timid voice came through the phone.
"What is it?" he responded.
"Where are you now?" Isabella continued to ask.
"In the car," William answered flatly.
"You're not with Amelia, are you?" Isabella asked carefully. "I saw the news online, saying... you had dinner with her tonight."
"No, I'm with Rhys," William said.
Rhys also spoke up at the right time. "Ms. Taylor, we're on our way back now."
Only then did Isabella seem relieved.
Then she said apologetically, "I'm sorry, William. I'm still a bit jealous."
William didn't respond, just looked at the heavy rain outside the car window.
"William, what did she say? Is she willing to get the divorce certificate with you?" Isabella paused slightly, then continued asking.
"She's willing," William responded.
"That's good," Isabella said.
Then, silence again.
Finally, Isabella said, "William, where are you going? Do you want me to come keep you company tonight?"
William lowered his eyes slightly. "Some things happened today. I want to be alone for a while."
"Okay," Isabella said. "William, you need to take care of yourself."
"Okay." William responded again, then hung up.
After dealing with Isabella, William felt a bit tired.
This day seemed especially long.
The Maybach was still driving through the rain.
"Go to Emerald Haven," William said to Rhys.
"Yes, Mr. Brown." Rhys changed direction and headed toward Emerald Haven.
They arrived quickly.
William got out of the car, walked through the small courtyard, opened the front door, and turned on all the lights in the house.
But it still felt empty.
He didn't go to their master bedroom. Instead, he walked straight to the sofa and lay down.
Looking at the ceiling, he felt a bit dazed.
As if this wasn't the real world.
His phone vibrated.
William took out his phone and saw the time had passed midnight.
Their divorce cooling-off period was over.
