Chapter 5
As the plane took off, a passenger across the aisle suddenly turned pale.
He lunged desperately toward a flight attendant, grabbing their arm.
“Please, can the plane land right away? I need to get off! Mr. Sinclair’s wife is seriously injured. I have to check on her or he’ll destroy me!”
Frantically digging through his bag, he pulled out credentials.
“I’m the Sinclair family’s private physician-yes, THAT Sinclair Group!
Mr. Sinclair treats his wife like treasure. He hired me from overseas to monitor her pregnancy.
I was on vacation, but now there’s been an accident. He’s given me an ultimatum-if I don’t show up, I’m finished!”
Gasps rippled through the cabin.
“So the Sinclair CEO really is secretly married? I thought that was just a rumor.”
“Rumor? At a gala last month, a waiter accidentally spilled wine on Mrs. Sinclair. The next day, that waiter vanished completely. No trace!”
“No wonder the doctor’s terrified. The Sinclair Group has serious power. But a commercial flight can’t just turn around. Poor guy’s screwed…”
The doctor turned ghostly white.
He dropped to his knees before the flight attendant, banging his forehead on the floor repeatedly.
“Please! I only got the news after boarding-I never would have gotten on otherwise! The plane just took off, there’s still time to land. Mr. Sinclair only gave me one hour. Any later and I’m finished!”
The elderly doctor sobbed uncontrollably like a helpless child.
The flight attendant, aware of the Sinclair Group’s influence, promised to ask the captain.
But once they left, they never returned.
The doctor’s panic gradually gave way to complete despair.
Watching everything unfold, I felt nothing but bleakness.
So his concern and love for Raven had never been hidden.
was just too stupid to see what was right in front of me.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Raven regained consciousness after the danger passed.
Aiden sat beside her. When she awoke, he immediately pulled her into his arms.
‘How are you feeling? Still in pain?”
The doctor says the fire wasn’t major and your burns aren’t serious. Don’t worry, there won’t be scars. You’ll still be my beautiful princess.”
Their eyes met. Raven’s wounded expression transformed into flirtation the moment she saw his concern.
“You were really worried about me?”
“Thank you, husband…”
That single word-“husband”-pleased Aiden enormously.
Itis tense nerves finally relaxed.
He reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear.
Then Raven spoke:
“Where’s Zoey? She hasn’t found out, has she? I’m sorry-I never expected to offend some foreigner.
I didn’t want to disturb you two, but I couldn’t find anyone else to help, and transportation in the suburbs is so inconvenient…”
Suddenly remembering something, she covered her mouth in shock.
“Could it be your enemy from abroad? Did you make someone angry during your last trip?”
She clutched Aiden’s hand tightly, her eyes filled with concern.
“What about you? You haven’t been in any danger, have you? If something happened to you, your baby and I couldn’t go on.”
Tears fell onto his hand.
Aiden’s lips pressed into a thin line.
“It was Zoey’s ex-husband.”
“I’m sorry I’ve neglected you lately.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll stay by your side these next few days. As for Zoey, let her cool off on her own.”
“Don’t blame her. I’ve already put her in her place.”
Without any investigation, based solely on Raven’s word, he pinned all blame on Zoey.
Raven bit her lip, then burst into tears.
“Aiden, could this be a misunderstanding? We haven’t caught the arsonist yet. What if we’re wrongly accusing Zoey? She…”
Aiden’s expression instantly turned cold.
“A Frenchman-who else could it be except her ex-husband?”
“These past three years, I’ve let my guard down. I thought she’d cut ties with him. Never expected this…”
“I’ve put you in danger. Thank God you’re okay, Raven. When I heard you were in trouble, I nearly lost my mind.”
His joking tone lightened the room’s atmosphere.
Raven laughed seductively.
“You’re teasing me again! You’re so bad!”
“But you and Zoey are about to get married. You don’t think her ex is coming to steal her back, do you?”
“If Zoey still has feelings for him, then you…”
As she spoke, calculation gleamed in her eyes.
But Aiden was too angry to notice her subtle expression.
“He wouldn’t dare!”
“If he shows his face, he won’t leave alive!”
“If Zoey really leaves with him, then I don’t need someone like that in my life. All my sympathy would have been wasted on her!”
Chapter 5
Not getting the answer she wanted,
Raven’s smile instantly vanished.
“I knew it! You only care about Zoey. My baby and I are just extras!”
“Fine, leave then! I never want to see you again!”
Aiden surrendered, his face showing an indulgent smile despite his apologetic tone.
“Okay, okay. I was wrong, I was wrong.”
“If Raven’s angry, just hit me. I’m your husband-it’s my job to take the punishment.”
He tried to embrace Raven, but she turned away and pretended to sleep.
“I’m going to rest now. Get out. I don’t want to see you.”
“Two-timing jerk!”
Aiden sighed and left the room.
At the doorway, his expression instantly hardened.
He turned to his assistant.
‘Where’s the doctor? What’s he being paid for?”
The assistant broke into a cold sweat.
Sir, the doctor started his vacation yesterday-the two-week break we approved. He’s probably on a plane by now. Maybe we could-”
Let me contact other specialists. Your wife is stable, so changing doctors shouldn’t be a problem.”
Aiden’s furrowed brow relaxed slightly.
Move quickly. Raven can’t be left without medical supervision.”
As the assistant turned to leave, Aiden suddenly spoke again:
What about the arsonist? Still not caught?”
There aren’t many French people in this city. If you can’t find him, don’t bother coming back to work!”
‘he assistant frantically agreed and hurried away.
‘he hallway fell silent.
he hospital was nearly empty in the late hours.
iden stared at Raven’s sleeping form, unconsciously slipping into memories.
