Chapter 6
At that, uncle Marcus deflated.
They probably knew full well my dad was capable of doing something that heartless.
Aunt Cheryl shook with rage, pointing at Dad but unable to get a single curse word out.
Seeing Dad’s side gaining the upper hand, Grandma got cocky again.
he sprawled across the sofa, commanding me as I knelt on the floor: “Where did your mom hide that property deed? Find it quick-the housing office loses soon.”
You’re not getting any younger either. I’ve already found you a match. After we finish your mom’s funeral, you’ll come back to the hometown with
ne…”
efore she could finish speaking, I stood up, grabbed the coffee pot off the table, and hurled it at her.
offee splashed all over her.
he old hag let out a shriek, tumbled off the sofa, and frantically swatted at herself.
You… you unfilial brute! Are you trying to scald your own grandma to death?”
Call the police, call them to arrest her.”
ler beady eyes glaring at me like a poisonous snake.
wiped the tears from my face, picked up the coffee pot on the floor, and started throwing it at everyone around her indiscriminately.
[om was dead. There was no one left in this house that I cared about.
aking out one would break even, two would be pure profit. Even if they called the cops, it would just be a mutual brawl.
What did I have to fear?
ad shepherded his precious wife and child toward the master bedroom for cover.
charged after them, grabbed the screaming little boy by the hair, and kicked him in the knee.
hud
le went down on his knees before Mom, crying hysterically.
ad’s eyes went red as he rushed to hit me.
yanked his precious son’s hair harder and glared up at him: “Hit me once, and I’ll smash your precious boy once. Let’s see if your fist is tougher or
our son’s skull is harder.”
he coffee pot was made of solid copper, weighing over 2 kilograms when lifted-one can only imagine what it would do if it smashed into someone’s
lead.
Dad stopped in his tracks, hesitating and not daring to come forward.
His mistress was screaming while pinching his arm.
‘Go save Bobby! You useless piece of garbage.”
“You’ve spent your whole life afraid of your wife, and now you can’t even handle your own daughter, you coward…”
Coward.
That was the trigger word.
Dad’s face suddenly turned frighteningly dark.
He couldn’t stand being called a coward more than anything else in the world.
He backhanded the woman across the face, leaving her completely stunned.
Dad looked like an enraged lion, fists clenched, ready to charge over and fight me to the death.
I held the coffee pot in one hand and pressed the little boy’s head down with the other, making him kowtow a full 49 times to Mom.
By the end, he’d passed out, a huge lump swelling on his forehead.
I tossed him back to his mother and faced off against Dad with the coffee pot.
Dad glared at me viciously: “Aren’t you afraid I’ll leave your mother without a proper burial?”
Looking at the idiot in front of me, I suddenly laughed.
“I’ll handle Mom’s funeral arrangements. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Since your son kowtowed to Mom like a filial grandson, I won’t dig up those old accounts.”
My dad was furious, jumping up and down in a rage. He brought up the issue of the property deed again, and when he saw I wouldn’t budge an inch, he called the police right away.
But when the cops came, they just checked the property deed and left.
Grandma and Uncle Timothy saw the deed and collapsed to the floor, feeling like the sky was falling.
Grandma especially started wailing and slapping her thighs.
“Damn her, she fooled us all.”
‘I said we should’ve brought her back right away, but you insisted on waiting until after her SATS.”
‘What bullshit promise letter-we should’ve forced her to do the transfer from the start.”
There was a lot to unpack in that statement. I was completely lost.
What did she mean Mom had fooled them?
Had something happened at home on the day of my SATs?
