Chapter43 Caught the Traitor!

Chapter43 Caught the Traitor!
Talia POV
I looked at him coldly. "Whether I'm lying, you know in your heart. One of Aron's men accidentally let it slip that someone gave Gavin our asset transfer plans right after the family meeting. The description matches your personal assistant perfectly."
"That was his own doing. It has nothing to do with me!"
Jareth didn't waste words. He gave Rico a look. "Bring the Fourth Elder's assistant here for a face-to-face confrontation."
Soon, two guards dragged in a pale-faced man. It was the Fourth Elder's assistant.
When he saw the scene, his legs gave out. He dropped to his knees with a thud.
"Don Jareth, I was wrong. The Fourth Elder made me do it. He took Aron's money and had me pass meeting information to Gavin. He even had me secretly copy the family's old account records for them."
The Fourth Elder trembled with rage. "You're slandering me! I never did that!"
"The evidence is right here." Rico threw a stack of transfer records and chat logs on the table. "These are your money transfers to Aron's people, plus chat logs of you telling your assistant to pass messages. Want me to read them out loud for everyone?"
The Fourth Elder looked at the evidence on the table and collapsed onto the sofa.
The other elders exchanged looks. No one had expected the Fourth Elder capable of such betrayal.
Jareth looked at him. "The family supported you all these years. This is how you repay us?"
Guards immediately stepped forward and dragged the Fourth Elder out.
The Second Elder sighed. "The Fourth Elder did a lot for the family in his younger days. How could he do something so foolish in his old age? Jareth, what's your plan now? If Aron and Gavin's plan succeeds, our family is finished."
Jareth turned to me. "Talia, what do you think?"
"A direct confrontation won't work. The media and police are watching us closely. If we fight Aron now, we'll just give them ammunition. I want to try talking to the prosecutor handling this case. If he'll give us time, we can intercept those illegal substances first and find evidence against Aron and Gavin instead."
"I know that prosecutor. His name is Henry. He's famously incorruptible and impossible to bribe. You sure you can convince him?"
"Won't know unless I try." I said. "If he's truly incorruptible, he won't just listen to Aron's side. I'll tell him everything Aron and Gavin have done. He'll make his own judgment."
Jareth thought about it and nodded. "All right. I'll have Rico prepare all the evidence. Be careful. If the talk doesn't go well, don't force it."
Early the next morning, I took the evidence Rico had compiled to the prosecutor's office. After explaining to the receptionist, I waited nearly an hour before being brought into Henry's office.
Henry was in his forties, wearing a crisp uniform. When I entered, he just pointed to the chair across from him. "Sit. Tell me why you're here. I'm warning you, don't try any tricks. I don't play that game."
I sat down and pushed the files toward him.
"Henry, I know you're investigating the Camorra family's case. I know the media is saying we're involved in crime and drug trafficking. But I'm not here to defend the family. I want to tell you the truth."
Henry didn't touch the files. He just looked at me. "The truth? I'd like to hear what truth comes out of a mafia member's mouth."
I pointed at the documents. "Whether it's true, you'll know after looking at this evidence. Aron and Gavin are the real masterminds. They set a trap to kidnap me, tried to inject me with illegal substances to frame Jareth. They're also planning to smuggle drugs into our shipping containers the day after tomorrow and report us to the police to frame our family. The Fourth Elder was their inside man. This is all the evidence, transfer records, chat logs, witness testimony, everything."
Henry finally picked up the files and started flipping through them.
I continued, "I know you don't trust us, but I hope you'll give us a little time. Just until the day after tomorrow evening. We can intercept those illegal substances and catch Aron and Gavin in the act. If we can't do it, you can investigate our family then. Jareth and I will accept it."
Henry put down the files and stared at me for a long time. "Why should I believe you? Why should I give you time?"
I met his eyes. "Because you're an incorruptible prosecutor. "
Henry fell silent.
"I know you have concerns. How about this, I can leave my phone with you, full location tracking. You'll know all my movements. If we try anything, you can arrest us immediately. I just ask for two days to let us prove our innocence."
Henry finally spoke. "I can give you two days. But I'm warning you, if you try any tricks, I won't just arrest you. I'll turn the Camorra family inside out."
"Thank you, Henry. I promise you won't be disappointed."
Leaving the prosecutor's office, I immediately called Jareth and told him about my meeting with Henry.
Jareth laughed on the other end. "I knew you could do it. Now we need to set things up and wait for Aron and Gavin to take the bait."
I hung up with Jareth and got in the car, already planning the whole game in my head.
The Fourth Elder was now a useful chess piece.
I had Rico bring the Fourth Elder's assistant over. The guy was already scared out of his mind. I didn't need much effort to get him to reveal how he contacted Aron's people.
Every Wednesday at 8 PM, he sent fake information about south district shipping via encrypted email, signed "Old Friend."
I tossed him a piece of paper with fake information I'd written. "Do as I say. Tell them that the day after tomorrow at 3 AM, we're shipping a batch of high-profit luxury accessories to the port. We're using the most remote shipping line in the south district. Only two security vehicles, and all the personnel have been reassigned to handle police inspections."
"Miss Talia, I'll do it. Please don't hand me over to Don Jareth."
"Don't worry. As long as you do this cleanly, no one will bother you. But if you try anything, you know the consequences."
That evening, the encrypted email went out. I had Vincent monitor Aron's movements.
Sure enough, the next morning I got word that Aron had sent three of his men to scout the south district shipping line. He even contacted several black market middlemen at the port, planning to intercept and resell the shipment.
I sat in my office at Phantom Nightclub, listening to Vincent's report, and couldn't help laughing. "He really is greedy."
"Miss Hayes, our people are in position. We only left two empty vehicles as bait on that south district shipping line. Our real forces are hidden in abandoned warehouses along the route. As soon as Aron's people make a move, we can surround them."
I waved my hand. "No rush. Let them take the vehicles first. After they think they've succeeded, we'll have customs 'happen' to inspect the cargo. Aron's people deal with customs all the time. This time they'll get what's coming to them."
I'd already talked to Max, the customs supervisor. He'd taken plenty of favors from Jareth and had wanted to deal with Aron's crew for a while but lacked an excuse.
When I gave him Aron's interception time and route, he agreed on the spot. "Don't worry. I'll personally lead the team. We'll catch them red-handed."
