Chapter Thirty Four
Chapter Thirty Four
Daphne's POV
"A fire? What do you mean by a fire?" Cassidy shrieks.
She pulls my hand towards the door. "Come on, we have to get out of here."
"Hold on, Cass. I can't just leave." I manage to wrest myself free from the death grip she has it in.
I turn to the man who came to warn us. I think his name is Jakob. He seems to be one of the few people that isn't involved in my husband's crimes. He actually does his job efficiently. Which brings to question why he is the one warning me and not the head of security.
"What's the situation, Jakob? Where did the fire start?" The pale blond blinks back at me in confusion.
"The fire, Jakob, where did it start?" He has snapped out of his panicked haze now.
"Oh, uh, the records room but it has spread to marketing." Well, that's interesting.
"What about the employees? Has everyone been able to get out?"
"Yes. Luckily, you called an emergency meeting in the cafeteria so since everyone went there, no one is hurt. I only came here because I didn't see you and the fire alarm did not go off. I just wanted to check if you were alright."
"Thank you, Jakob. You may go now and please make sure the Fire Service has been notified."
"Of course, they're on their way as we speak." Then he hurries out the door.
"Cass, you need to leave now. I have something I have to check out real quick. I'll be right behind you."
"Um, have you read to many financial statements? Is your brain foggy? There's a fire. We have to get out now!" Her eyes are panicked and a cold sweat has broken out all over her. Harsh breaths come in and out of her.
I place my hand back in hers and allow her to hold it again. Wincing slightly at the force with which she squeezes it.
"Breathe in and out for me, Cass. That's it, in and out.......in, good, you're doing good." Her breathing is more regular now.
Now listen to me. You need to get out of here."
