Chapter 43 Ambushed
Chapter 43 Ambushed
Travis’ p.o.v
I popped my eyes open, still panting from the intense pleasure that was somehow still coursing through my veins.
My eyes widened as it caught the movement outside the car.
“Get down,” I yelled as I dragged her down along with me. But I was too late.
A knife cut through the air.
For a split second it looked like a flash of silver glass under the garage lights.
Then it smashed through the windscreen.
The glass exploded inward.
Nyx screamed.
The blade tore across her elbow, leaving a sharp line of blood before driving straight into my shoulder with a sickening thud.
Pain detonated through my body.
“Stay down!” I barked through clenched teeth.
Nyx stared at the knife buried in me, horror frozen across her face. Blood was already soaking through my shirt, spreading fast.
“Travis.” she choked.
“Down, Nyx!”
Her breathing turned ragged but she dropped lower against the seat just as I twisted the key in the ignition. The engine roared to life.
Outside, three men rushed forward from behind a concrete pillar.
One of them was already raising a gun.
I slammed my foot on the accelerator.
The car lurched forward violently.
Gunshots cracked through the garage.
The windshield already shattered spidered further as bullets punched through the remaining glass.
Nyx gasped, covering her head as she curled against the seat.
Another shot rang out.
As I sped past them, my eyes locked briefly on the shooter.
There it was.
An X-shaped mark carved into the skin of his forearm.
My jaw tightened. I focused on the road.
More gunshots followed us as I swung the wheel hard, tires screeching against the concrete floor. The car fishtailed before straightening as we shot out of the parking lane toward the exit ramp.
Nyx’s voice trembled beside me.
“You’re bleeding…oh my God…you’re bleeding so much!”
“I noticed,” I muttered.
Every movement sent another wave of pain through my shoulder where the knife still protruded. My left hand tightened on the steering wheel while my right arm stayed stiff.
Behind us, the men ran toward another vehicle.
“They’re coming!” Nyx said, twisting to look through the shattered back window.
Of course they were.
I pressed harder on the accelerator, the engine growling as we burst out of the garage and into the street.
Wind rushed through the broken windshield, whipping Nyx’s hair across her face.
She grabbed my arm suddenly.
“Travis, the knife…”
“Leave it,” I said sharply.
If she pulled it out now I’d bleed out before we made it two blocks.
Another set of headlights appeared in the rearview mirror.
They’d found their car.
Nyx followed my gaze and went pale.
“They’re still after us.”
I wiped blood from the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand, my eyes fixed on the road ahead.
“Yeah,” I said coldly.
Then I pushed the car even faster.
Nyx's p.o.v
“But they just made a very big mistake.” As if he was snapped from a reverie, his eyes dropped to my wound. Not big but it was there.
Still driving fast, worry clouded his expression. “Is it painful baby?” My heart melted, he's in grave pain but he's still bothered about me.
“Not as painful as yours I guess.”
He shook his head, that distant look was back.
“Hold on tighter baby, we need to lose them,”
I grabbed onto his waist, only then did I noticed his cock was still out, now soft but unclothed. My face tinted.
“Tuck me in little cat,” Of course. He noticed.
I grabbed him, gunshot rang outside, my heart skipped as I quickly zipped him up. Then I gripped his waist. He tipped his head, a silent question if I was ready. I nodded.
The car surged forward like a beast unleashed.
The speed pushed me deeper against him as I clung to his waist. His muscles were taut beneath my grip, hard as iron, every movement sharp and controlled despite the knife buried in his shoulder.
I had never seen him like this.
His jaw was locked, eyes dark and focused on the road, the veins along his neck standing out as he maneuvered the car through turns at a terrifying speed.
He looked… dangerous.
Not the teasing, smug Travis who liked to get under my skin.
This version of him was colder. Scarier.
The engine roared as he took another sharp turn, tires screeching against the asphalt.
I tightened my hold around him as buildings blurred past the shattered windshield.
I twisted slightly, trying to look behind us.
Nothing.
No headlights.
No car.
No men.
My chest finally loosened.
“I think…” I swallowed. “I think we lost them.”
He didn’t answer.
His grip on the wheel remained tight, knuckles pale.
The silence stretched as the car sped down darker, emptier roads.
Should I call the cops?
The thought slipped out before I could stop it.
“Should I call the police?”
He shook his head immediately.
“I’ve got it under control.”
His voice was firm. Final.
I lifted my head, peering outside again.
The city lights were fading. The streets were unfamiliar now, quieter, the buildings sparse and shadowy.
A cold unease slid down my spine.
I slowly pushed myself up from his side.
“Where are we going?”
For the first time since the knife had buried itself in his shoulder, Travis groaned.
It was low. Strained.
The sound made my stomach twist.
His hand tightened on the wheel as he exhaled sharply.
“I need to take the knife out,” he muttered. “And clean the wounds.”
My eyes widened.
“What?”
“The house is too far.”
“But we need to go to a hospital,” I said quickly, panic creeping into my voice.
“Your wound needs proper care.”
“I’m fine,” he snapped.
The harshness in his tone made me recoil.
I shrank back slightly, staring at him.
He felt… different.
Colder.
Harder.
The warmth he had shown me minutes ago was gone, replaced by something distant and guarded.
His eyes stayed on the road.
“I’ve got a house on the outskirts,” he
said after a moment, his voice calmer but still clipped. “Small place. It’ll accommodate us for the night.”
I hesitated, my fingers still curled around his shirt.
Then I nodded slowly.
“We’ll go there.”
