Chapter 48
Chapter 48
“You cannot be serious. Why the hell would I help Chloe?”
“Well, you tell me— to get even with me?”
“Elliot, you know I’ve never liked her for you.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore, Alex, because you failed. I’m marrying your sister, and I must say, she’s really pretty.”
“Of course, Elliot. Anything that has a hole you can put your dick in is pretty to you.”
“Well, if you put it that way.” He smirked, which irritated my blood.
“Elliot, I don’t care if you marry Paris, or Chloe for that matter, I’m done.”
“Really? I mean, I was just considering, you know... I’m still making my mistress list. My lawyer is already drawing up contracts, so—”
“I’m not interested, and you should be ashamed to admit this.”
“I should, but I’m not. Hehe.”
“Well, Elliot, I just came here to tell you that those five years I spent hoping are now gone. I’m done, and for real this time.”
“Are you sure?”
“What?” Why on earth would he ask that?
“All I’m saying is…” He came toward me, and I refused to move backward because I wanted to see what he was going to do. He tried to reach for a strand of my hair, but I didn’t allow it—I moved back.
“You’ve wanted this for so long. I’m finally considering you.” He put on a soft smile, and for a second, I found myself drooling. Blame me, but those lips... Shit. Okay, enough, Alex.
“Good luck, Elliot, because you’ll need it.” I turned to walk away, but he held me back by my arm.
“Chloe has been dealt with.”
“Excuse me?”
“If she tries anything, she’ll be arrested.” He said, and I couldn’t believe he was saying this. I mean, Chloe was the love of his life. Wasn’t it just a few days ago he was willing to marry her? Lol, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but between Dylan and Elliot, I think Elliot is the biggest jerk.
“Goodnight, Elliot.” I yanked my hand away and walked out without turning back. I didn’t even bother to slam the door—I just wanted to get out of his sight.
Damn, I felt good. I just walked away from Elliot. I never thought a day like this would ever come. Well, Dylan was right—confrontations really help lift stuff off your shoulders.
I finally stopped toward the end of the hallway, about to get into my room, and I looked back. I didn’t expect Paris to be stepping back into Elliot’s room. I mean, their rooms were just across each other. Sighing, I walked in, somehow disappointed or jealous—I’m not sure.
“Dylan?” I found Dylan pacing around.
“Oh, you’re back.” He stopped. He looked bothered, or maybe it was time for him to smoke and he didn’t want to leave Emma alone.
“Thank you. You can go now.” I said as I removed the sweater so I could get ready for bed.
“Yeah, I... I didn’t want to leave your sister alone.”
“I figured. Thank you for that, Dylan. Sorry for keeping your cigarette waiting.” It was supposed to be a joke, but it didn’t come out that way.
“Oh no, I need to make an important call. I smoke for fun, Alex. I’m not an addict.” He said, pulling out his phone from his pockets.
“Of course, my... apologies.” I apologized as I got in bed. He didn’t respond, instead pressed his phone to his ear and walked out.
I watched the door for a moment, silently thinking about how Dylan was turning out to be a good guy. How didn’t I see this all this time?
“Now I’m going to smoke. Will be back.” His voice shook me out of my thoughts. I didn’t even realize when he walked back in.
“Yeah, yeah, sure.” I said, and he closed the door. That’s when I quickly stood up and walked to the window, hoping to see him. After just a minute, there he was, leaning on his car, lighting up his cigarette. I was hiding behind the curtains, so even when he looked up, I could tell he didn’t see me.
A second later, I walked back to the bed and then slept, after kissing Emma’s head.
I fell asleep immediately. When I opened my eyes, the sun’s rays hit my eyes, and I quickly covered them.
“Shit. Ouch.” I had a slight headache. I looked to Emma’s side, and she was nowhere near. I almost panicked when I saw a little note on the dresser. I quickly put on my glasses and read it.
It said she went for a walk on the beach with Dylan. It was weird, as Dylan didn’t strike me as one who liked little children. But well, the Perez brothers seemed to be full of surprises. Removing my glasses, I got up and fixed the bed.
Once that was done, I noticed the pillow and blanket neatly placed on the couch. Getting close, I smelled Dylan—he slept there.
Not overthinking it, I walked to the bathroom and got ready for the day.
Coming out in my beach dress, I walked out, unsure of the response after last night.
“Oh, don’t worry, my brother has a beautiful daughter—Paris’s cousin. I’ll introduce you.” I could hear Helena’s voice from my door. I wondered who she was talking to.
Whoever it was, she was about to set him up, and knowing how good she and Ximena were at that, I knew it was going to work.
Well, I thought it wasn’t my business until I reached the living area and found Ray seated next to my father, and Helena on the other side with Paris, having the conversation.
“Ray?”
“Alex!” Ray quickly stood up and rushed to me while Helena and everyone else’s jaws dropped, clearly shocked.
“Why is he going to her?” Paris asked.
“Oh sweetheart… he wasn’t joking.” Helena mumbled, her mouth still wide open, while Dad seemed to have no opinion as he just watched Ray wrap his arms around me.
