Chapter 33

Chapter 33
A L E X I S

Gia's assistant and Layla both looked at me, waiting for a response. Now, I couldn't say no. I mean, I had never attended an LGBTQ pool party before, but I had previously served at events.

And if I ever wanted to be done with Layla, no matter how impossible it seemed, I had to try. I had to do it.

"Yes, I can do it," I replied, clearing my voice.

"Great. Leave your belongings; we are leaving now."

Layla did not even wait. She turned and walked away, as if I were a stray she had just decided to take along. I stood up, grabbed my phone, and pushed in my chair.

Gia's assistant gave me a blank stare—she had no idea what Layla was up to either. I followed her outside without bothering to catch up. Everyone we passed stopped to acknowledge her, showing her disturbing rich-girl respect.

When we arrived at her car, I was surprised to see that there were no guards—only her—and she directed me to the rear seat.

"When does the party end?" I asked. I needed to go home. I needed to talk to Elliot. I needed to know I didn't imagine last night.

"Until I say so," she said, and started the car.

"I don't mean to be rude, but I have a class tomorrow. I need to be home for my assignments, at least by eight.”

She didn't respond, instead, she slammed her foot on the gas unexpectedly, and I nearly flew forward, hitting my head on the front seat. I had not even secured my seatbelt yet.

I raced to clip it in, then took out my phone and messaged Sandra to apologise for not being able to meet her after all.

I also messaged Elliot and asked about his day, as he had become like my boyfriend since last night. And it was my duty to check in on him. Especially after he apologised for Chloe—something he didn't have to do.

God, I still couldn't believe he feels the same. That we actually slept together last night. Not just sleeping but we had sex. Real, not imagined sex.

Part of why I needed to see Sandra was to tell her everything. If I kept this happiness inside any longer, I was going to burst.

"I hope you keep that smile on, because we're here," Layla said, snapping me out of it. Before I could see outside, she got out, and I had to basically rush after her before she locked me in the car.

After just one rejection, she was out for blood. I swear she was out to ruin me because if I don't complete those assignments, I will not be able to write exams.

I followed her inside the tall building. We walked into the lobby, and she went over to whisper something to the front desk guy. I didn't catch what she said, but I saw her hand him a wad of cash. "Keep up," she snapped again then took off, and I had to jog to keep up.

We walked through the other side of the building and—whoa. It was packed with teens everywhere. They were doing their own thing. And by ‘own thing,’ I mean kissing, dancing, gossiping, drinking, and, yes, some were having sex in the open.

Every single one of them appeared gay. "You are that side. You only come here to serve drinks or pick up dirty cups," Layla snarled, tossing her clothes at me as she stripped and walked away.

The clothes landed on my face. Then the DJ announced her. "The only straight girl behind the arrangement," he announced, and everyone applauded. Straight girl? I wasn't too sure. Layla's behaviour and Ray's words raised concerns about her sexuality.

Still clutching her clothes, I picked up what had fallen and headed towards the door she had indicated. It led into one of the apartments.

After knocking and receiving no response, I stepped inside. I anticipated it to be empty but it was not. There were two girls inside, both dressed the same and they stared at me as if I had walked in with horns on my head.

"Hi," I murmured, grasping Layla's clothes. They said nothing. Just looked me up and down, possibly judging my official clothes. "Yeah… I just got off work," I explained hesitantly, still nothing.

Perhaps they don't speak. I pondered as I marched forward. They made space for me to pass, which made it creepier. Just as I was ready to sit, someone barged in.

"Ten drinks. Layla's orders! You know how she gets if we take more than a minute," the girl who barged in stated, prompting the other two to act.

One began putting up red cups while the other poured alcohol. That is when I noticed their attire. Maid's uniforms, all of them. The new girl turned to face me and asked: "Who are you?”

"Alex… Layla asked me to help with the drinks…. or something."

"Well, we are usually three. But more hands are preferable. Get a uniform, change, and join the others." She did not wait. I stood up immediately, and before I could question, she pointed to the left.

A black-and-white maid's dress hung on the wall. I grabbed it without hesitation. Perhaps doing her this favor would make Layla leave me alone and be cool with me again.

"Where's the bathroom?" I asked. One of the quieter girls pointed. I followed the instructions and walked inside. Except, it wasn't the bathroom. It was a bedroom and it was occupied.

"Oh! I apologize—I did not mean to—" I covered my eyes. "I'll just go, I—"

"Lex?" I removed my hand from my eyes and gasped. No way.

Sandra?

She was still fixing her clothes, as was the other woman in the room, who was much older.

Anyone could tell what I had just walked in on. They were certainly in the middle of something. And I was not stupid. They’d been licking each other’s pussies, which is OK for lesbians, I'm not judging, but my best friend?

Sandra wasn't a lesbian, she had a boyfriend.

"Sandra?" I muttered, shocked, confused, and completely speechless.
