60. Embeddedness
After meeting a client who was going to build a home in Las Vegas, Luca quickly left. He gets off the elevator, and his steps are suddenly interrupted by the commotion around the clinic cubicle. Luca slowed his pace. He feels a calling.
"We need blood type B immediately."
"Is it out of stock?"
"It's out of stock."
"I called the Red Cross, but they're also out of stock."
"It's usually available at the army base."
"Not sure either."
Luca, who heard the commotion and bustle of the nurses, moistened his lower lip as he was a B blood type.
"Ms.! The Red Cross will try tonight."
"How can that be? We need it now!"
Luca closed his eyes for a moment to neutralize himself. He felt no need to be called. After all, Luca had only come to this country for his work and love affairs. He didn't want to prolong things, even if he had the urge to do something humanitarian in his heart. Luca quickly walked away.
"We have to search! The patient will bleed out!"
"Argh!" Luca chuckled in annoyance. He smacked his ear because he hated having to hear what one of the nurses was saying.
Since college, Luca has been active in social activities, especially in the health sector. It made his empathy grow even bigger. Luca couldn't help himself. He turned around instead of feeling guilty.
"Do you need blood type B?"
The question left the nurses dumbfounded, unable to properly digest the situation because they found it strange and had to confirm many other things.
Due to the nurses' sluggish response, Luca walked into another hallway where there seemed to be one doctor there judging by his blazer.
"I will donate my blood!" Luca said without hesitation in front of the doctor and the three people there.
Their responses were no different from those of the nurses in front. They stare at Luca intently, guessing and scanning things. But they were more perceptive than the nurses.
"Who are you?" Jonathan asked.
"Me?" Luca pointed to himself. "Do I have to introduce myself? You guys just need blood, right?"
"Right. We need it," said the doctor. "You have blood type B?"
"Yes, that's right."
Then, the doctor asked one of the nurses to take him into another room for a medical examination and blood draw. As Luca entered, Jonathan stared at the door as it slammed shut.
"Is there a problem?" asked Agnes, puzzled.
"Who is he?"
"How should I know?"
Jonathan cursed himself for having to ask a stupid woman like her. He looked the other way, finding Jayden and Elion there.
"Where did that guy come from?" Jonathan searched for possibilities.
"I don't know either."
"He wasn't wearing a uniform. So, maybe he's a visitor or a patient?"
"Find out where he came from, Elion!" Jonathan ordered. The young man immediately went to work.
Although he did not know the blue-eyed man's name, Elion, as Jonathan's subordinate, was used to conducting such invisible investigations. They had many methods.
"Why are you making so much noise?" protested Agnes. "He's only going to donate blood for your wife anyway! Your wife is the most important thing right now!"
Without needing to respond, Jonathan's piercing gaze was already able to pounce on Agnes, who chose to remain silent and apologize.
"Go home!" Jonathan said with restrained anger. "Your husband is waiting for you. You can't just enjoy your freedom anymore, Agnes."
"Fine!" snapped Agnes. "All right, I'll go home. But..."
Jonathan girded his loins. "But what?! What do you want?"
"Let me stay here until I see Cathy out of surgery."
"Why do you have to do that?" Jonathan moved closer, causing her to wince.
"I-I just want to see her safe and sound." Her tone sounded shaky. "Then I went home and didn't take her to the hospital room!"
Jonathan did not respond again. He only replied with a tense dagger stare at Agnes until she was frightened. Jonathan was also scanning her with his hawkish gaze.
That cold gaze was frightening. How could Catharina live with a man like that?
Jonathan let out his breath slowly, then turned around, his back to Agnes. He made a face. He didn't want to stare at her for too long. Jonathan chose to be indifferent.
Meanwhile, inside, Luca unbuttoned his shirt sleeves after successfully passing the health screening. He passed with flying colors.
"You look very calm, sir. You also have a big soul. I respect you very much." The nurse bowed her body politely.
"Ah, it's nothing." Luca kept himself humble.
While preparing the equipment, the nurse asked again, "Are you a medical expert or something?"
"No, I'm not. I'm an interior designer," Luca explained. "But I was active in the Red Cross."
"Wow! Really?" The nurse came over to him. "No wonder you have such a big heart. Not many dare to do so."
"It turns out that the activities of my youth were quite influential."
"That's right, sir. Then, have you gotten used to donating?"
Luca nodded while leaning back casually. "Yes, I am. But I haven't done it for a few years now."
"You're a great person. So, you don't have to worry even if you haven't done it for a while. I think it's a miracle for patients after not getting blood," she continued. "Can we start now?"
"Of course."
While the equipment was in her hands, the nurse was ready to draw blood. Even Luca looked calm as his blood was drawn. When he was done, the nurse gave him a cotton swab that had been soaked in alcohol.
"Thank you again for your generosity of spirit, sir."
Luca nodded, buttoning up his shirt sleeves after the nurse had taken his blood. He also saw that the blood in the bag was immediately taken to another nurse.
"By the way..."
"Yes?"
"How can a patient bleed that much?" Luca was curious.
"Ah, the patient just happened to have surgery yesterday. He was supposed to rest completely until the stitches were firm, but he was doing activities, and then the stitches came loose."
Luca winced in horror. "He's a crazy patient. How can you move around in that condition? If the stitches came out, that's a lot of pain."
"I can't imagine it either. Especially when the patient is a woman."
Luca nodded in understanding. Then his eyes flashed as he remembered something. What, a woman with stitches?
"Excuse me!" Luca wanted to restrain the nurse. "Were the patient's injuries caused by scratching the edge of the fence?"
"Hm." The nurse considered a few things, then shook her head. "No, it wasn't. The patient has a gunshot wound." She said goodbye before leaving Luca, who was glad that the commotion was not caused by Catharina.
