Chapter 153

Raymond was kidding himself if he thought a few small favors would win Amelia and Zoey back.

He knew Amelia well; he'd spent enough time with her to understand just how stubborn she could be.

So, the moment he got back to the office, he ordered his team to dig into the details surrounding her father, Barry's death immediately.

Raymond didn't think Barry was a business genius, but he had been around the block a few times.

It was hard to swallow that he'd been cornered by Lyanna and Audrey, leading to his tragic fall from a building.

Lyanna and Audrey didn't have the chops to pull off something like that.

But the investigation turned up more than Raymond had bargained for.

Hidden clues started popping up, hinting at a shocking secret ready to be uncovered.

Meanwhile, Amelia was feeling more and more uneasy about the whole situation with Raymond and Cecil.

Even at work, she couldn't stop thinking about them, leaving her frustrated and distracted.

One day after work, feeling suffocated, Amelia decided to meet Lucy at a bar to unwind.

The bar was dimly lit, with deafening music and people dancing like crazy, blowing off steam.

Amelia and Lucy found a relatively quiet corner, colorful cocktails in front of them, though Amelia wasn't in the mood to drink.

As they chatted, Amelia suddenly blurted out, "Lucy, do you think I should move abroad?"

Lucy, who was sneakily replying to Raymond's messages, froze like a deer in headlights.

Her phone almost slipped from her hand as she stared at Amelia in disbelief, raising her voice, "What? You're thinking of moving abroad again?"

Amelia nodded slightly, her eyes showing a hint of determination. "I had this idea before, but now that I think about it, it might be a good solution."

Staying here meant she'd never untangle the mess with Raymond and Cecil.

The tangled emotions and complicated interests were wearing her out.

She might as well move abroad, find a new place, and completely cut ties with them, living a carefree life.

Besides Zoey and Noah, there was nothing and no one worth staying for.

As for the company, relocating it abroad was possible, though a hassle, but not impossible.

Thinking of Zoey and Noah made Amelia hesitate.

Noah and Zoey, one was her long-lost son, and the other her cherished daughter. How could she bear to leave them?

Maybe she could take them with her quietly when Raymond wasn't paying attention?

The more Amelia thought about it, the more feasible the plan seemed. She started considering the details, but her phone suddenly rang.

Seeing Raymond's name on the screen, Amelia froze.

Why was Raymond calling now? Was it about the kids again, or something else?

After hesitating, Amelia answered the call.

Raymond didn't mince words. "Come outside, I'm here."

His voice was deep and calm, carrying an undeniable authority.

Amelia was taken aback. She was at a bar; how did Raymond know she was here?

She stood up and instinctively looked out the window. Sure enough, Raymond's car was parked outside.

The car was understated yet luxurious, its unique license plate gleaming under the streetlight, impossible to miss.

But how did Raymond know she was here? Did he have her under surveillance?

The thought made Amelia uneasy. The feeling of being watched irritated her, and her tone naturally carried a hint of displeasure, "Sorry, I'm not planning to leave yet."

She was about to hang up when Raymond, as if anticipating her response, replied calmly, "Are you sure you don't want to come out? I have something you might be interested in."

Amelia instinctively asked, "What is it?"

She regretted it immediately, feeling she shouldn't have taken the bait so easily.

"You'll know when you come out."

Raymond hung up before Amelia could respond.

Amelia was torn. She suspected Raymond might be tricking her, trying to mess with her.

But curiosity grew like vines in her heart, making her desperate to know what Raymond had.

In the end, Amelia couldn't resist. She told Lucy and walked outside.

Raymond's assistant, Carl, was already waiting by the car door. Seeing Amelia, he promptly opened the door and said respectfully, "Mrs. Adams, please."

That awkward title made Amelia glance at Carl, then she slightly turned and got into the car.

Raymond was inside, having just finished work. He had taken off his suit jacket, his collar slightly open, revealing a bit of his firm chest.

Though seated, he exuded a relaxed vibe, different from his usual stern demeanor.

Seeing Amelia, Raymond casually remarked, "Why are you at the bar again? It's not very safe lately."

His tone carried a hint of concern, but to Amelia, it felt insincere.

Amelia nodded slightly, her eyes lingering on Raymond's exposed collarbone before asking, "What is it that I'm interested in?"

She thought that if Raymond dared to joke about his body, she would slap him and leave.

But Raymond wasn't as childish as Amelia imagined.

He turned, picked up a document from the seat beside him, and handed it to Amelia, saying, "My people found this by chance. I thought you might be interested, so I brought it."

"What is it?"

Amelia took the document, and as her eyes fell on it, she was shocked.

The document detailed her father, Barry's cause of death—falling from a building.

But before the fall, the Smith Group was involved in many hidden matters.

It recorded various financial movements and high debts, things Amelia hadn't discovered in her previous investigation.

Amelia's hands trembled as she held the document, her voice shaking as she asked, "What do you mean by this?"
