Chapter 102 Our child needs him
Chapter 102 Our child needs him
DAPHNE WOKE UP to Amelie shaking her.
“Daph, wake up. Don’t you have class tomorrow? It’s seven already. Are you sleeping here tonight?”
“I thought I was allowed to stay here?”
“You are. I was just thinking about your classes.”
“Just lend me some clothes. I brought everything I need for school anyway.”
There probably wasn’t a quiz, so it was fine if she didn’t study.
“Sure.” Amelie looked at her seriously afterwards. “Your husband texted. What should I say?”
“Tell him I’m not here. I’ll just message him that we have group work and I need to sleep over so we can finish.”
Her friend nodded. “Your call.”
“Thanks, Amelie.”
She bowed her head and then looked at her friend seriously.
“What should I do? Please tell me what the best thing to do is. I can’t think straight. I don’t even know how to tell him I already know.”
Amelie sighed and sat beside her.
“I’m not the perfect woman, Daph. I don’t know if what I’ll say will help. But I think you two should talk—together. You’re married, so the two of you should solve this together. But don’t force him to choose. That’s wrong, at least for me. You’re his wife. He chose you from the start. Let him decide on his own. It’s enough that you already know. Some men don’t like being forced to choose. But that doesn’t mean you should just suffer in silence. You’re married. That’s not something you throw away easily. He got that woman pregnant before you both admitted things to each other. So don’t be impulsive. Or else, both of you will suffer. Okay?”
“We already know Amber is his ex. But it still hurts, Amelie. He lied so many times, just to go to her. Do you even know how desperate he is to have a child, or even his parents? What happens to me? Lately, he doesn’t even spend time with us anymore. I’ve been pushed aside. What now? I just watch them be happy while I suffer?” She started sobbing after saying that.
“I’m sorry, Daph. I don’t know what else to say.” Her friend pulled her in for a hug. That’s when she cried harder. Every stroke of her hand matched her sobs.
“Just do what you feel is right. That’s why I don’t want to get married. Too complicated.” That only made her sob harder.
She wasn’t much of a drinker, but that night she drowned herself with Amelie. They didn’t even clean up the living room before bed because they were too drunk.
If she didn’t have class, she wouldn’t have forced herself to bathe. She just wanted to sleep all day.
She spent half an hour in the bathroom showering. Good thing Amelie was still asleep. No one else was waiting.
Amelie was naked when she entered her room to borrow clothes. She shook her head and covered herself with a blanket before getting clothes from her drawer.
She skipped breakfast and went straight to class. Not that she wanted to eat. She’d probably throw up.
Their professor hadn’t arrived yet, so she slept in her chair for a while.
She had no idea how long she’d been asleep, but she jerked awake at the sound of something slamming against the table.
She couldn’t help but laugh when she realized the three of them were all sleeping in a row. Who knows if their professor noticed she was hungover?
Their female professor banged the table again to get the attention of the two still asleep. They all laughed when the two jumped in surprise. They straightened up and gave awkward smiles.
Good thing there was no quiz. Nothing entered her head the whole day. She was also thankful there were no classes the next day because of the holiday.
She didn’t go to the office because she still felt the effects of the alcohol. She just slept when she got home. Thankfully, BK wasn’t there either. She didn’t know if he had called because her phone was off after she messaged him about the group work.
She woke up that night, starving, so she just ordered fast food. She didn’t have the energy to cook. The noodles she ate before bed weren’t enough.
Her food arrived at the same time as her husband did. He looked puzzled at what she was carrying.
“Where have you been? You didn’t go to the office either, baby.” He followed her into the dining area.
She gave a dry laugh.
“I texted you last night, so what do you mean, ‘Where have you been?’ Do I ask you that when you come home at dawn?”
“I let you know—”
“That damn letting me know, BK. I told you last night too! So why are you asking me now?”
“Baby… I couldn’t reach you anymore. I got worried,” he said softly.
She dropped the bag and turned to him.
“Tell me the truth, BK. Why are you worried? Scared we’re doing the same thing? That maybe I’m lying too, just to see someone else?”
BK swallowed repeatedly. Her words had weight. It was impossible not to understand what she meant.
He moved to come closer, but she stopped him.
“Let me eat first, BK. Please.”
“Baby—”
“BK!” Her voice rose.
He held his temple and shut his eyes. When he opened them, it was like he wanted to say something.
“Please. I’m shaking from hunger.”
He gave a sad nod before turning away.
She dropped herself onto the chair once he stepped out of the dining area. She had to stop herself from crying. Her heart felt like it was about to burst in rage.
Her whole body trembled again.
She couldn’t hold back the tears while eating. If she was already crying now, what more when he admitted the truth? Her lips quivered as she chewed, and even drinking water made her tremble.
She shut her eyes when she heard the phone ring in the living room. Amber was the first person who came to mind.
It kept ringing, unanswered. So she forced herself to go answer it.
With trembling hands, she picked up the line. Like last time, she wasn’t the first to speak.
“Hello? BK? I think I’m about to give birth—ahhhh!”
She shut her eyes upon hearing Amber’s voice crying in pain. She really was about to give birth. She also heard an older woman say she was in labor.
“O-Okay, I’ll tell him,” she replied shakily.
Amber paused. She must’ve recognized her voice.
“Please, Daphne. I need BK. Our child needs him…”
