Chapter 248 Bonus Chapter – Death of Jonah
Chapter 248 Bonus Chapter – Death of Jonah
Jonah’s POV
The last 10 days were incredible. Life with Maddy was far better than I could have ever imagined. I knew that once I had her, she would realize she wanted me, too. Boy, did she want me. We had sex 3 to 4 times a day and lay in the sun the rest of the time.
Yesterday, Dr. Mathias gave me my last shot of the medicine. I rolled over to look at Maddy. She looked different. I rubbed my eyes and refocused them. What the fuck is happening? That’s not Maddy. I knew every contour of Maddy’s face. The curve of her eyebrow, the pucker of her soft lips, and the number of freckles she had.
“Jonah, what’s wrong?” The woman in front of me asked.
I leaped out of bed. “Who the fuck are you?” I questioned, panicked.
“Jonah, it’s me, Maddy,” the woman replied. “I told you that you got too much sun yesterday.”
“This isn’t too much sun,” I responded. “You are not Maddy!”
“Jonah, I’m going to get the doctor,” she advised, climbing out of bed. “I’m worried about you.” She quickly tied her robe around herself and headed out the door.
I climbed back into bed, my mind swimming. Dr. Mathias came in a few minutes later. “Jonah, Maddy told me you are having hallucinations?”
“That’s not Maddy,” I commented.
“Of course it’s Maddy,” Dr. Mathias said, looking at me like I was crazy. “Dr. Forest has been with you the whole trip.”
“I know every inch of Maddy,” I sputtered. “I know she’s not Maddy.”
“Jonah, be reasonable, we are in the middle of the ocean,” Dr. Mathias said, checking my eyes. “Where would Maddy have gone, and where would we have picked up a different woman? I think the withdrawal from the pain medication you were taking is affecting you. You might want to take it easy today.”
I sighed. What he said sounded reasonable. There was no place for Maddy to go in the middle of the ocean, so I must be having some confusion in my brain because of the medication. “Should I just go back on the medication until we’re back home?” I asked.
“No, I don’t think you need to continue the medication,” Dr. Mathias advised. “Just take it easy today, Jonah.”
“Thanks, Dr. Mathias,” I said, looking towards Maddy.
“I’m going to go take a shower,” Maddy advised. “Then I’ll bring you down some breakfast. You rest in bed a while longer.”
“Thanks,” I replied, still not believing that woman was Maddy.
While ‘Maddy’ was in the shower, I decided to go upstairs and eat breakfast. I wasn’t going to lie in bed and wallow in my brain fog.
I threw on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt and headed up to the galley. While I was sitting at the table eating, the woman came up. She looked even less like Maddy than before she went into the shower.
“What is really going on here?” I asked.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Jonah,” she said, smiling. “Dr. Mathias said the medicine is causing the distortion.”
“Bullshit,” I bellowed, slamming my hand down on the table. “Who are you?”
The woman looked at me, puzzled, and then walked away towards the stern of the yacht. I leaped up and followed her.
“Chum it,” she said to one of the crew.
“Why are you having the water chummed?” I asked.
“I want to see the sharks,” The woman stated, standing on the edge of the yacht.
“Be careful,” I warned, stepping next to her, “You don’t want to slip.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” she said, looking at me, grinning.
It was quite unsettling, as if something extremely disturbing was behind her eyes.
It didn’t take long for the sharks to appear, the chum sending them into a ravenous frenzy.
“You know. When you’re a predator, like a shark,” she explained, “you think there is no one that can come along and defeat you. You have to remember, though, there is always a bigger player out there that is willing to take you down. Isn’t that the truth, Jonah?”
“I guess that’s true,” I agreed. “Some predators have protection, though.”
“Yes, but most just have the illusion of protection,” she laughed.
“You’re not really Maddy, are you?” I asked. “Be honest.”
“No, I’m not,” she said, smiling.
“What’s your name?” I questioned.
“Yvette,” she advised.
“Ah, the doctor’s assistant,” I mused. “Good cover-up. So, who sent you, and how did you make me believe you were Maddy?”
“The Luciano mafia familia,” Yvette replied. “I’m sure you’re familiar with Fiola Luciano. Those shots you were given are experimental, mind-altering drugs.”
Fuck.
Just then, Yvette bent over and slashed me across the left thigh and pushed me. There was no stopping my fall into the water. My only thought was that I needed to climb back on the ship, but the sharks were on me in no time. Most of them were bumping hard into me with relentless power.
“OH, MY GOD! SOMEONE HELP!” Yvette screamed, putting on a show. “JONAH HAS FALLEN INTO THE WATER!”
Intense pain slammed into my left thigh, where Yvette had cut me, so I reached down and found nothing where my leg used to be. The shock hit me hard as I tried to swim back to the edge of the yacht, following the screams of Yvette. As I made it to the edge, I looked up to see Yvette standing there with a smirk on her lips. Two of the crew members bent down to lift me out of the water.
“GET THE DOCTOR!” One of them screamed.
The other crew member ran to find the doctor. My head started spinning.
Yvette crouched down next to me and held my hand. Looking like a caring girlfriend, but the words that came out of her mouth didn’t match the look on her face and her actions. “Jonah, this is for every single one of those girls that we saw on the USB sticks in your office and home safes. For every girl you abused, for every woman that ran from you, for every single one that can’t stand up for themselves because of who your daddy is,” Yvette stated.
“Save me,” I whispered out.
Yvette bent down and whispered, “Marcisci all'inferno, Bastardo.” (Rot in hell, bastard.) She planted a kiss on my lips.
The kiss of death.
Then my whole world went black.
