Chapter 160 Entering the House

As soon as the elevator doors opened, the office erupted into chaos.

"Two hours, a full two hours!" A female colleague practically jumped in place.

"To be precise, it was two hours and twelve minutes," a male colleague said, adjusting his glasses. A shrewd glint in his eyes.

"So what did they do?"

Abigail's face was flushed with embarrassment as they exited the building.

Thankfully, they had taken Edward's private elevator straight to the underground parking lot.

But her dignity was in shambles!

How was she supposed to go to work tomorrow?

How could she face her colleagues?

Abigail felt exhausted and humiliated, slumping into the passenger seat.

Who would believe that they had spent the afternoon in the office just working?

Edward had come to supervise her as she worked on her design drafts, even bringing his own work over and occupying the only small sofa in her office.

Though it was tough, miraculously, having someone supervise her boosted her efficiency several times over, and she had completed most of her design drafts!

It was both painful and joyful.

Edward glanced at Abigail as he drove, seeing her look of utter despair, and couldn't help but chuckle.

"Stop the car!" Abigail suddenly shouted.

Luckily, they hadn't driven far, and Edward pulled over.

Abigail opened the door and rushed out.

Edward followed her.

In the distance, Mabel was arguing with a middle-aged woman who looked particularly mean and had a loud voice.

Mabel was trying to reason with the landlord, hoping she wouldn't make such a big scene.

"If you care about your dignity, then pay the rent! I've let you stay for free for half a month already, and now you want another half month for free? You're young, but so shameless!"

Mabel looked embarrassed. "I really don't have any money right now."

She took out her phone and gave the landlord the remaining thousand dollars she had left for emergencies.

"It's still not enough." The landlord glanced at the balance, her voice rising.

"Wait, I'll borrow some right now. But just so you know, I'm not renewing the lease. This is the last month, and I'll use the deposit to cover the rent."

"As long as the money adds up," the landlord replied flatly.

"Alright, give me a moment." Mabel then called her relatives, enduring a round of scolding, but she managed to borrow the money and transferred it to the landlord.

"I'll pack my things as soon as possible," she told the landlord.

"Whatever, but you have to be out by the end of the month. Any extra day, and you'll owe rent!" The landlord left, satisfied.

Mabel sighed deeply.

She turned around and saw Abigail, her face full of embarrassment. "Abigail, you caught me again."

"Can you still stay with your relatives?" Abigail had seen Mabel's fallout with her relatives; the money was the last of their goodwill.

Mabel's face stiffened, and she said, "You saw everything."

She felt even more embarrassed, her head hanging low.

"This is so humiliating, Abigail. I don't want you to see me like this." Mabel choked up.

"It's nothing." Abigail patted Mabel's shoulder.

She turned to Edward, silently asking, "Can I take her home? Just for a few days."

Edward was speechless.

When would Abigail see Mabel's true colors?

That woman was trying to seduce her man!

And she wanted to bring her home?

Edward laughed in frustration.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked her.

Abigail bit her lip. "She's really in a tough spot."

Mabel reminded her of herself back then, borrowing money from every relative to pay for her sick mother's treatment, until she was chased out like a dog.

She had sold the house, used up her savings, and ended up on the streets...

She was better off now, and she didn't want to see other girls end up like she did.

Mabel was educated, smart, and capable; she deserved a brighter future.

"It's your call." Edward reluctantly agreed.

Maybe having Mabel under their roof would make Abigail realize her true nature sooner.

Abigail smiled at Edward, her eyes full of gratitude.

"Mabel, come home with me."

Mabel, shrouded in gloom, slowly lifted her head. "Abigail, what did you say?"

"My house has plenty of rooms. You can stay for a while, it's no problem."

"Abigail, I can't impose on you. It's too inappropriate." Mabel protested, her hands trembling with excitement.

It worked, finally!

Her plan to hire actors for this scene had paid off.

"Abigail, honestly, I can't bother you and Mr. Harrison. I feel really sorry."

Mabel stepped back, but Abigail grabbed her arm. "Listen to me!"

Mabel was moved to tears.

"Abigail. Thank you."

"Stop crying, let's go." Abigail gently patted Mabel's back.

Passing by Edward, Mabel nervously said, "Mr. Harrison, I'm sorry for the trouble."

Edward didn't respond, bending to get into the driver's seat.

Mabel panicked, looking to Abigail for help.

"It's okay, he's just in a bad mood today. Get in the car."

With Abigail's reassurance, Mabel nervously got into the car.

The company was close to Beverly Hills Mansion, and despite the rush hour traffic, it took less than half an hour to get home.

Edward got out first and opened the door for Abigail.

Mabel emerged from the other side, discreetly glancing at the overly considerate Edward.

He was the complete package—tall, handsome, wealthy, and utterly devoted.

She thought to herself, 'Soon, he'll be hers.'

She couldn't contain her excitement as she looked around.

Beverly Hills Mansion, a renowned upscale residential area, where the residents were all wealthy and influential, with net worths in the millions.

And this place was developed by the Harrison family.

The villa Edward and Abigail lived in was the largest and best-located in Beverly Hills Mansion.

Imagining living here, breathing in the fresh scent of the greenery, and being served by the staff, Mabel's eyes shone brighter.

"Mabel? Mabel?" Abigail called out twice.

Snapping back to reality, Mabel forced a pitiful expression. "Abigail, staying here, I really won't be a bother?"

She looked timid and fearful, making Abigail feel sorry for her.

"It's fine, Edward doesn't mind."

Mabel immediately turned to Edward.

Edward didn't respond, wrapping his arm around Abigail as they entered the house.

Mabel followed them.

Murray and Ondine came out to greet Edward and Abigail, their expressions changing when they saw Mabel.

"Murray, Ondine, nice to see you again."

"Miss Simpson, hello." The butler and Ondine replied with forced smiles.

"Ondine, please prepare a room for Mabel. She'll be staying here for a while."

Ondine was shocked, but she saw through her immediately and cursed inwardly.
