Chapter 74 The Mean Carl

Before sitting down, Carl had a quick word with the staff and then plopped into the seat closest to Daphne.

The staff yelled out, "Just relax and don't be nervous. If you get scared, let me know and I'll stop it."

"Okay," Daphne replied, gripping the chains on both sides tightly, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.

As the ride started, the flying chairs began to spin and rise.

At first, Daphne was a bit scared, but soon she started to enjoy the feeling of being up in the air.

Even though it wasn't super warm, the bright sunshine made it feel nice.

Carl watched Daphne's face light up in the golden sunlight. Despite her frailness, she looked as radiant as the sun. If only she were healthier.

Just as he was thinking this, Daphne turned to him and flashed a huge smile.

In the sunlight, her young face looked beautiful. This was probably the happiest Daphne had been since they were together.

She always seemed a bit cautious, always aware of everyone's feelings. But right now, Daphne was just being herself.

After the ride, Carl quickly unbuckle his safety harness and then helped the clumsy Daphne.

Daphne's feet barely touched the ground, so he just picked her up.

Unexpectedly, Carl took the initiative to ask, "What do you want to do next?"

Daphne immediately pointed to the Ferris wheel not far away. She had already spotted it while on the flying chairs and decided it would be the next thing to try.

Seeing her excitement, Carl couldn't help but pat her on the head. She was just wonderful.

Daphne was taken aback by his sudden gesture and stared blankly into his eyes.

She couldn't be sure if it was just her imagination, but Carl's eyes seemed to be filled with tenderness.

As they walked towards the Ferris wheel, Daphne saw a woman holding the hand of a five or six-year-old boy. She casually took out her phone and snapped a few photos because the boy looked exactly like Alan.

On the Ferris wheel, Daphne held a huge pink bunny-shaped cotton candy, which completely blocked Carl sitting across from her.

Other customers had bought regular-sized cotton candy, but hers was obviously made three times larger at Carl's special request. The price was probably three times higher too.

"Can I even finish this?" she wondered aloud.

She tried to figure out where to take a bite but found it impossible. Her face would be buried in the cotton candy before her mouth even touched it.

In the end, she tore off a piece and offered it to Carl. He hadn't had cotton candy in a long time, not since he was a kid with his grandmother.

He took a bite; it was very sweet.

"Is it sweet?" Daphne asked as she put a piece in her own mouth.

"Don't eat too much. It'll upset your stomach."

Daphne fell silent. Carl could be so harsh. She gave him a speechless look.

"Didn't you buy this?"

"Yeah, so what?" Carl replied confidently.

"Didn't you ask for such a big one? Now you're telling me to eat less..."

"The vendor thought I was handsome and insisted on giving me a larger one. Is that a problem?"

Daphne fell silent, not wanting to argue with him.

The Ferris wheel was huge and moved slowly. They sat quietly in the warm sunlight, with Carl occasionally accepting Daphne's offerings, feeling a rare sense of peace and relaxation.

When it was time for lunch, they headed to a restaurant in the park. Seeing the familiar dishes on the table, Daphne was surprised.

"Aren't these the same as at home?"

"Yeah, I had the chef come here. Besides simple snacks, you need to stick to the nutritionist's menu."

"It's really not necessary..."

With Carl's serious look, she swallowed the rest of her words.

She seemed to be eating quickly, acting like she was starving. Carl reached out and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

"You foodie, take your time."

Suddenly, she started to cough.

"What did I tell you?"

Daphne wasn't sure if she was choking on the food or Carl's words. She took the napkin he handed her, her face a bit flushed, and glared at him.

It was amusing. Carl thought Daphne with a bit of an attitude was childish. He just wanted to tease her.

He couldn't help but think of Daniel, that brat, who was always the most annoying kid in class, pulling girls' pigtails, tying their shoelaces together, smearing chalk on their faces.

Those girls were all ones Daniel had liked. His way of showing his feelings might be annoying, but those moments were very sweet.

At this moment, Carl was like a little boy deliberately trying to annoy a girl. Seeing that she had almost finished her meal, Carl asked, "Are you tired? Do you want to go home?"

But he was immediately met with a somewhat desperate look from Daphne.

"You're leaving after just two rides?" She looked a bit aggrieved.

Seeing her eat so much, Carl had thought that she might be tired. He didn't expect Daphne to be so energetic.

Today was Christmas, so the amusement park was quite crowded. After lunch, there were even more people. They heard there would be a big fireworks show in the evening.

They played a few more rides that were within an acceptable range of intensity. To accommodate Daphne, who was timid, Carl uncharacteristically joined her on a family-friendly roller coaster. The pink theme was very cute, which Carl hated.

Daphne was still a bit scared and couldn't help but scream. Carl, sitting next to her, held her hand tightly.

The sun was setting in the west and reflected off the clouds, giving them a purplish hue. It looked like something out of a movie.

"Do you dare to go to the haunted house?"

Hearing that, Daphne hesitated for a moment but then nodded. She was scared but still loved to try it.

The crowd was already quite dense. To prevent Daphne from being bumped into, Carl kept her close, his large hand firmly on her shoulder to protect her from getting jostled.

Some non-player characters had started wandering the streets, interacting cutely with the various guests.
