Chapter 67 Only Silence
Seeing Carl's anger simmer down a bit, Daphne couldn't help but ask, "Vivienne's really gorgeous, and she's totally into you. Plus, she's super famous. Have you seriously never thought about her?"
Carl just gave Daphne a helpless look.
"Daphne, I'm a married man. Do you think I'm like that old Alan, chasing after any pretty face?"
Carl raised an eyebrow. "Daphne, the most basic thing in marriage is loyalty."
For once, Carl was dead serious. His words actually touched Daphne a bit.
Avoiding his intense gaze, Daphne lowered her head and quietly ate her food. It seemed she could trust her marriage a bit more.
Claire's suffering wasn't just because she met the wrong people, but also because of her endless tolerance and forgiveness.
Alan was definitely no match for Carl.
After dinner, Carl personally drove Daphne back to the Emerald Manor and then headed back to the office.
Meanwhile, Evelyn and the others noticed some progress in their relationship recently.
They didn't expect Carl to actually show such tenderness to Daphne. Last time, Daphne just asked about a good steakhouse, and then he had people work overtime to create the best rooftop garden restaurant, serving top-notch Western cuisine.
Now, after dinner, he even personally drove her back, which was like they are really in a romantic relationship. It seemed he had truly fallen for Daphne.
Over at the Ward Group, as soon as Carl walked into the company, he saw several employees gathered in the lounge area having afternoon tea.
They were chatting about Vivienne. Carl gave a silencing look to the receptionist who saw him and stopped behind some plants to listen.
One of the employees said, "I didn't expect Vivienne to not only be a good actress and singer but also to be so nice to us."
"Yeah, this cake is from a place that requires a long wait to buy. It's really delicious. Vivienne is really nice."
One of the employees lowered their voice a bit, "Hey, do you think Vivienne is being nice to us just because she did an endorsement for us?"
As they spoke, they winked suggestively. Everyone got the hint.
"Isn't it obvious she likes Mr. Ward? Anyone can see that. Did you see the way Vivienne looked at Mr. Ward last time with that admiring gaze?"
"Do you think we'll be attending their wedding soon? It looks promising."
The receptionist, seeing Carl's not-so-good expression, wished she could stop them right now. If Carl got angry and she got caught in the crossfire, it would be terrifying.
Even though the Ward Group had the best benefits and a great work culture, troublemakers always met a nasty end.
Carl had heard enough and headed for the elevator. The big lobby went dead silent in an instant.
Everyone was stunned.
In his office, Carl called Ralph on the direct line and asked him in.
"Did you say anything to Daphne about Vivienne?"
"Oh, last time Mrs. Ward asked, I told her you and Vivienne were college classmates."
Seeing Carl's face darken, Ralph's voice trailed off.
"You won't need to collect your salary this month. Also, I think there's a project in Antarctica that would suit you."
Hearing Carl's words, Ralph's eyes almost welled up. He realized he might have messed up. But Carl actually started caring about these things.
Carl thought for a moment and seemed to understand something. He thought, 'Daphne must be jealous, right?'
Daphne usually didn't ask him too many questions, always keeping her distance. Today, she had asked him a lot about Vivienne with that hurt look.
He had heard from Daniel before that girls usually used a sarcastic tone to talk about another woman when they were jealous, which was a sign of caring.
'And jealousy is a sign of caring, which means she likes me, right?' Carl thought.
He looked up and continued to ask the somewhat despondent Ralph, "Cancel Vivienne as the spokesperson and choose someone else from the remaining candidates."
Ralph hadn't fully processed his words. He thought, 'Didn't Mrs. Ward already have me sign the contract? Doesn't Mr. Ward know about this?'
Then Carl continued, "Also, purchase some of the best wedding gifts. Distribute them to our employees as quickly as possible, making sure everyone gets one."
"Wedding gifts?"
Ralph still didn't get it. Then Carl was helpless.
"If you really want to go to Antarctica, I can arrange it quickly."
"No, I didn't mean that. Are the wedding gifts for you and Mrs. Ward? Any specific requirements?"
"Just have our names on the design."
Ralph took the order. Then he realized he had just learned some big news. Carl was now going to officially announce his relationship with Daphne to the entire company.
Carl really had fallen for Daphne. He had insisted on a prenuptial agreement back then. And now, in such a short time, he had fallen for her.
Ralph thought it through from beginning to end. It seemed Carl was always thinking about Daphne. Recently, he had designed a rooftop garden restaurant, arranged for a top pastry chef to come work, and had Otis help out.
Under normal circumstances, Carl would never use his network to help anyone. The more Ralph thought about it, the happier he felt.
