Chapter 65 Rooftop Garden Restaurant
In the early morning, Daphne whipped up some tasty oatmeal porridge today. She'd noticed Carl coughing a bit over the past few days, probably because of the chilly weather.
Carl, just coming downstairs, spotted Daphne bustling around in the kitchen, looking as charming as ever.
"Breakfast's ready. Come and eat," Daphne called out, placing a steaming bowl of oatmeal porridge on the table.
Everything was set. Carl took a sip of the porridge; it was just right, mildly sweet and not too thick.
"Carl, thanks. I gave Otis's business card to Mrs. Fisher, and she was really happy."
"Mm."
No need for extra words. Carl's anger had softened. He'd been mad, but he called Otis the next day anyway.
It was rare for Daphne to ask for his help, even if it was for someone else.
After they were almost done eating, Carl looked up at Daphne and said, "The Ward family opened a new rooftop garden restaurant. Have lunch with me today."
Daphne nodded, helped him with his coat, and watched him leave.
After tackling some tasks in the study, Daphne called Joshua, who was in good health lately. She thought she should visit him soon.
Just then, Daphne's phone rang. It was Claire.
"Daphne, got a minute to talk? I need to chat," Claire's gentle voice came through the line.
"Sure, I just finished some work in the study," Daphne replied.
There was a light sigh from the other end. "I had a brief talk with Otis. Now, I need to gather evidence, but Alan hasn't been going out to mess around recently."
Daphne thought for a moment and asked, "Do you have any evidence of his past actions? And what about the hotel incident? Did you check the surveillance?"
"I checked everything. The hotel's surveillance was destroyed that day, and even the backups were wiped clean."
It was either Alan or Vivienne who did it. Vivienne was on a career upswing, the perfect time for her transformation.
Vivienne's team planned to push her career in film, TV, and music all at once. With her looks and singing talent, refining her acting skills could make her a top-tier star.
Now, waiting for Alan to slip up was tough since he was focused on winning Claire back and wouldn't consider divorce.
After some thought, Daphne decided they needed to lure him out with bait.
"Mrs. Fisher, why not pretend to reconcile with him? Only then will he let his guard down," Daphne suggested.
"You can forgive him like before. As life gets back to normal, he's bound to keep having affairs."
There was a long silence on the other end before a soft sigh. "Okay, I'll follow your advice."
Claire had used to live in her own little dream world, but seeing that disgusting scene with her own eyes shattered it completely.
Now, every time she saw Alan's name or face, she felt utterly repulsed.
There wasn't a better plan. As long as Claire didn't forgive Alan, he'd keep hovering around her.
After hanging up, Daphne wondered if this plan would work. But with Claire on her side, Alan's downfall was just a matter of time.
Robert parked the car in front of the Ward Group building and left.
Daphne was rocking a light purple sweater and slightly flared jeans today, with a white down jacket over it, giving her a playful and feminine vibe.
As she passed the reception, she overheard two young girls whispering.
"Hey, look how often Vivienne comes to our company. Do you think she likes Mr. Ward?"
"I think so. Mr. Ward is such a perfect man, and every woman in Irvingport wants to marry him. We're just ordinary employees, but Vivienne might have a chance."
"That's not necessarily true. Haven't you seen those dramas where the CEO falls for the plain girl? Maybe it could happen to us."
"Come on, do you think you're pretty or have a great figure? You don't have either of those, right?"
"Stop saying that."
The girls giggled and teased each other.
Daphne calmly walked to the elevator and pressed the button. The elevator arrived, and Carl stepped out.
"What a coincidence." Daphne smiled sweetly at him.
"Too ugly," Carl said as he walked out and pulled the hood of her down jacket over her head.
The hood was so big it covered Daphne's entire head. She hurriedly pulled the hood off and tidied her messed-up hair.
"Is it really that ugly?" She looked down at her clothes.
Seeing her puzzled expression, Carl said indifferently, "Your smile is too ugly."
Then Carl walked towards the door, and Daphne quickly followed. Ralph had already parked the car at the entrance.
Rooftop Garden Restaurant
This restaurant was on the top floor of the tallest building in Irvingport, which was also owned by the Ward family.
The restaurant was divided into two sections. One section consisted of two indoor areas on the top floor, offering a 360-degree panoramic view. One area was for walk-in customers, and the other required a reservation at least half a month in advance, with simple crystal bead curtains for privacy.
The other section was the rooftop garden, designed with a poetic touch, featuring flowers, trees, and streams.
However, the weather was too cold now, so everyone dined indoors except when there was a private outdoor event.
Carl had reserved a room with the best view in advance. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire cityscape was visible.
Daphne curiously stood by the window and looked out, then she asked, "Carl, is that our home?" Daphne pointed in a direction with her slender finger.
Surprised, Carl seemed to have his heartstrings plucked by her words.
