Chapter 63 She is Stupid
CALEB’S POV
I watched my mate leaving the room, once door closed and we were both left I motioned for him to sit.
‘Want some drink?’ I asked casually, while picking the bottle from the cornered shelf and started to pour for myself.
‘No, thank you for asking Alpha’ he was formal, at distant and tense, I scrutinized his expressions and could tell his mind was still on his mate, Harper. I poured two glasses of wine and placed one in front of him, he was surprised to see, and I know he wanted to refuse again but I stopped him.
‘Drink it, you need to lose’ he exhaled a weary sigh and picked the glass, a man who was denying to drink now gulped down whole content in one go, he shut his eyes and flinch at the bitter taste, I chuckled.
‘You shouldn’t have gulped in once, it tastes bitter’ I motioned towards the glass in my hand, while taking a small sip, I was more in swirling the content then drinking it, it sometimes helps you to keep your mind focused on one thing.
‘This bitterness is nothing to the one I have inside of me, burning my heart’ his tired and broken words hint the emotional turmoil he was going through.
‘How did you learn about it?’ he raised his head and pursed his lips; he was clearly struggling to control his anger.
‘She told me herself and even suggested to reject her because I deserve better’ he rolled his tongue, I can see the agony in his eyes and felt bad for him. The moment I learnt about Jack and Harper’s physical relation, I warned them because I knew it might cause issue for her, but she didn’t understand and, being stubborn as usual, started to spend every night with that fool.
‘What is bothering you? She asked you to reject her or that she didn’t wait for you’ I asked softly, he was torn, I had to know what was going on in his mind before I act, I have to make things right and not worse them.
‘I won’t reject her, it is decided’ instead of giving answer to my question, he shared his decision.
‘I am glad you won’t reject her. She can never find a good mate like you.’ he leaned back and smiled sadly.
‘I am afraid she still likes that boy. I don’t want to force our bond on her, I always saw people finding happiness once they find their mate, what happened to me is totally opposite of it’ he jerks his head, as if calling himself stupid to put trust in people’s experiences.
‘Hey, it isn’t possible for her to like him. I know her very well, she has high standards. It’s just that she has been through a lot in her life, losing parents in her childhood, her aunt was there but she didn’t play a good role in developing her character, there are many loops in her personality, and I am sure Jack took advantage of it. She acts as if she is smart among everyone, when the fact is she is still child by heart and mind, she can’t make good decisions, she lacks this skill’ 
I know this kid very well, when she lost her parents, she cried for days until she was hospitalized and doctors has to keep her on sedatives, her aunt was just present as a family but didn’t play any role in her life, she grew up in pack house with other kids, but all those kids has parents to worry for them, love and care for them, cherish them, cook their favorite dishes for them.
Even when I lost dad, I also had gotten irritated and difficult to handle but mom worked hard on me to not let me go in depression stage, but their was no one for her and I blame us for this flow in her life. She learnt to hide her pain and to do that she always does what could annoy the other person.
However, I also didn’t expect her to get trapped by Jack’s fake words. I have no personal grudge with Jack, but you don’t have only good people in a pack, and you cannot kick out bad people from the pack just because they aren’t good. Pack couldn’t run like that.
‘You care for her?’ his question brought a soft smile on my lips.
‘For me she is like my little sister. When she was bullied in school, I always come as her rescue or sometimes, Ethan and Noah. We knew we would be taking over our father’s positions, so we were responsible from young age, but it brought her close to us, and she started to rely a lot on us, but things couldn’t remain same, our duties and work brought a distance, and she felt it pretty badly.’
Isaac hummed, I can see he liked it to learn about her mate, her past and what made her how she is today, and I know that she has now found a safe home, I was free to share with him, otherwise, we three have never shared these with anyone not even with Lilith I shared it.
‘You are right, and I can now see what could have stirred her to act so impulsively, but my decision is still same I won’t mark her nor would I reject her. In fact, it would be right to say that she is the one who has to make decisions.’ I slammed my hand on my forehead.
‘Isaac, what you think, why had I told you about her. I specifically mentioned to you that she lacks the skill of making good decisions. Jack is manipulator and knows her very well, he can push her to decide which won’t be good for you both. It isn’t wise to give the decision making power to her.’ He shook his head.
‘This is the moment she learns Alpha. She needs to understand herself. I don’t want to get into a relationship which could be one sided, I don’t want to force myself on her. She must come clean, choose to whom she wants to be loyal and whether her heart beats for Jack or for me. I don’t want us to regret, if she rejects me, I will accept it without causing any issue, but if she wants to choose me, she has to close and lock the chapter of her past.’ I sighed; he was right.
‘I think she likes you, because when Willow hugged you, I was looking at her face, and it was like she had lost her world’ I smiled, recalling her expressions, but the tears in her eyes ached my heart.
‘Yes, about Willow, I want to thank you for letting Noah make the decision and accepting her as she is. Just like Harper is sister to you, same applied on Willow and I.’ I nodded quietly, my mind still drifted on Harper’s sad face, I wanted to scold him but couldn’t, he was right. I just hope she doesn’t mess up this time.
‘I was afraid that you would not let her stay in your pack after learning about her and might force Noah to reject her’ he shared his fear and I chuckled, he didn’t know I tried once and my mate lectured me.
‘I tried once and the tantrums your aunt threw on me were enough to stop me from repeating it again. You might not believe me, but your aunt can be very scary sometimes.’ I laughed remembering that day when she was lecturing me, only if she knew I had called her scary, uff, she will kill me.
Isaac smiled.
‘I shall take my leave then.’ he stood up to leave when I called him, he turned to face me.
‘Although I respect your decision, I am worried about Harper. She needs time to realize her feelings for you, can you be patient and give her time, and if possible, protect her meanwhile’ It’s very rare for me to request someone.
‘She is my mate, Alpha. She might not have waited for me, but I was looking for her. I will protect her and hope she makes a wise decision for once’ I smiled and nodded my head. I exhaled, let’s hope that Lilith could put some sense in her mind.
