A Part Of It
Bella's Pov
The second trio of guards moved immediately and lifted Bella off the ground. Making her defy gravity as she flew up to her feet lighter than air. Yet heavy as a stone cast to the bottom of the sea.
Her eyes widened in terror, wondering where they would take her? The back of her mind knowing it wouldn't be anything better than whatever was in store for Freya.
And Marcus watched them drag her from his sight the same way he had watched her friend suffer the same humiliation. His eyes remaining cold, calm and confident. The look on his face enough to frighten even the stoicest of men— With Bella being nowhere near in that category. Plus, she was a woman…
Her mind realised, when her mouth opened, with her lungs suddenly releasing a scream. And a scream loud enough to shatter ear drums. But luckily the guards had steel helmets around their heads. And Marcus on his part, had always been deaf to the cries of the weak…
As he sat motionless, entertained in a brief moment, watching the second prize of his hunt being taken to its designated space. Far away from the comfort of his chambers, and even farther from the space for the royals.
Bella kicked and screamed as the door shut in front of her face, and shrieked as the one held by Alpha Marcus disappeared behind its wooden frame. Her eyes catching a last glimpse of his smile, still plastered unrelenting.
The slam of the closed door rang through the corridor as she was moved with surprising pace. Her eyes rolled around everywhere as the walls, the ceiling, and statues that lined the hallway all seemed to phase around in her line of vision at light speed. The iron clad feet of the guards making clanking noises intermittently. As they rushed in the exact opposite direction Freya had been taken. And outside into the morning sun?
Bella looked confused as the rays of light and heat unexpectedly washed over her face. With her feet still scrubbing the ground, and her legs spread out like a drunk being led to the nearest bathroom. Her hands up and beside her head like a scarecrow afraid of holding correct posture.
She tried to balance herself but heavy hands laid upon her and kept her behind them like a sack of potatoes. Leading her by the reins of their steel wrists as though a horse to the river— but walking confidently, knowing they had many ways to coerce her to drink.
“Ugh! Where are you taking me?” she asked now, high-pitched and struggling. Her feet shuffling for stability, and her heart fighting to maintain her blood pressure.
But no one answered. Everyone simply kept moving. Others like her, simply kept imitating luggage…
Yet time went by in seconds, and before Bella could get her bearings she was suddenly dropped on the floor. Her head hitting the ground in a thud and her legs now spread out in a slump, blowing up a cloud of dust. She quickly got up to her feet, rolling backwards and away from the guards; glad to have been released. Her breathing heavy and her eyes sharp, looking at all three men with brows furrowed, wondering why they had finally let her go?...
But then her eyes darted around to take in her surroundings. And she was surprised to see several men wearing rags and looking haggard, shovelling hay and stacking them in a corner?
She stared confused as they all moved in a straight line, in sync like zombies. With rakes and shovels— backs into it, and down to work.
Her eyes turned back to the guards confused, as they all now stood with hands on the hilt of their swords. In unison now adding a slight arch in their poise. And even with their helmets on, Bella could tell they were all smirking for some reason…
She frowned wondering what they were going to do? As one of the men stepped forward, bringing out from behind him a brand new shovel. And smiling as Bella hesitated to collect it, before he shoved it at her in a grunt.
“Welcome to your new job…” the one in the middle boomed sharply. His hands going to his jaw and scratching a non-existent itch. As he stepped forward and the man who had given her the shovel stepped backwards.
And Bella at first was dumbstruck…
As she thought she hadn't heard him clearly? Her brows furrowed as she held the shovel with two icked out fingers. Looking from it to the men in front of her, grossed out at the smell of dung on it and it's rusty handle.
She grimaced and dropped it. But before she could realise, the guard that had announced her new duties dropped a hard slap across her face, with the force of a fired fowling piece. Hitting her square on the cheek, and sending her to the ground in an immediate plummet.
Her head fell beside the shovel, almost hitting it face first. As the guard crouched down and held her gruffly, jerking her back to her feet. Taking her down and bringing her up again with no room to process the pain in between.
“This is not your home, so you don't get to make choices… you're a slave now, so you do as you're told or you're hanged, you hear me?” he warned, stern. His eyes mad with rage.
And Bella's eyes now suddenly watered with tears. Her eyes closing tightly, wincing from the pain of the guards fingers gripping her arms so tightly.
“You work in the farms now, and this is where you'd be till the end of your days…” The man explained with his breath hot, his eyes fiery, and staring into her soul. “There's no saviour coming. No heroes. No knights in shining armor. Just me and my colleagues here…” he said, gesturing with a head nod in their direction.
“Watching you and the rest of these dunderheads work like the animals you are…” he said, holding a frightening gaze.
“Tilling the earth, till you all become a part of it…”
