A Matter of Time
Rufus Kale POV
The morning was still young and birds took to the skies like missiles launched into the Mediterranean. Hawks with talons sharp and curved screeched through the sky—in search for a meal. And tiny pigeons flew low and beneath the clouds, hiding even under the cover of trees—for their own safety, and to pick low hanging fruits for breakfast.
The country of Klamath was still in spring. And vegetation stood bounteous and plentiful. In the south especially. And on this new morning Rufus Kale woke up dishevelled and grumpy. Giving a totally opposite response to what one would expect on a bright sunny day…
He stood by his window with his eyes steeled and looking straight ahead at the horizon. His hair laid back and flowing. And his eyes a lava red, almost releasing smoke like embers. His mind only and always ever filled with one thing and one thing alone: bloodshed…
He was the supreme ruler of the south yet he hated how his control was still limited… He felt himself a god and hated how he still hadn't possessed complete and unified reach of the entire country…
To him Klamath was his and only his. And everyday he woke up and saw the other two Alpha's in their sovereign territories, it annoyed him that his plans still had to wait. He was angry as patience was still to be exercised…
He knew if he wanted to succeed, he would have to wait for the right time. And now still wasn't the right time. As his Elders had cautioned him sternly the last hour he had gotten irritational—and had sought to launch a full on attack and besiege on Alpha Darren and the Blood moon pack.
Yet little did he know that Margus was already one step ahead of him. Making his own plans and implementing them; as he had already caught Darren's true destined mate—Unbeknownst to even Darren himself. As he had rejected her in his own l arrogance…
And Rufus now was like a dog on a leash. Held down for the time being, but still dastardly dangerous... For if anyone came too close, they ran the risk of losing their heads—and the maids that had brought his dinner the previous night were the first to taste of his short temper…
The morning was beautiful and the sun was rising higher. But his eyes stayed fixed on the distant clouds that floated above and behind the sun that glowed like a golden orb. His soul fixated on the hunt. His heart on the art of war. And every fibre of his being thirty for the victory of conquest!
He smiled slightly in mental compensation as he remembered the scores of packs all subservient under his name and boot. He smirked remembering how many territories he had already conquered and overcome till present day… And his confidence grew. His pride swole. And his shoulders rested from their anxious movement in relaxation and self preservation.
He knew he already had an army the size that any general would salivate and drool upon seeing. A single fleet the numbers of a battalion. And a battering ram squad able to break down even the gates of Hades with a single heave and thud…
He was rolling on the back of comfort. And all the wealth and affluence one could wish for. Ate healthy and most times too much. Drank pot shots of ale, and fell asleep in between words when he tried to speak in those times. Constantly filled with hubris and lucky to not have been overthrown.
Even though it had already been done at one time...
When a protest led to a riot, and a riot led to a coup. Then a boycott that was unfortunately shut down as quickly as it had started. With one of it's members selling himself out as an informant to save his own family…
It had been a tense season for him and since then he had been on his toes. Growing extra careful after the incident, and playing a seemingly counterintuitive game of reducing the number of soldiers standing guard at his doorpost. For fear they would be the next usurpers, and that he would be a sitting duck if they decided to be…
But now he stood, still alive, with his hands on the railing of his penthouse balcony. That climbed hills and mountains in the sky. With his eyes stern and fixed, his mind making a mental resolution and his body channeling it's inner energy.
He remained motionless as he let it course through his veins. The rage, the pride, the hunters instinct. The ego. He let it all in as he reminded his heart he would need them all to solidify in his consciousness the purpose he had set out for himself: world domination.
He would rule over everyone and everything. Every pack, every territory, every last inch of land in every possible direction. Every living wolf would be subservient to him. Beautiful women would flock around him. And he would hire sorcerers… And the likes of Seraphina to cast a gloomy shade over the sky. Holding the weather in his hands; only giving rain and sun to the people he desired to, and those who worshipped him.
He was power hungry, and the hunger was insatiable. He wanted it all and wanted it all to himself. He desired to be a god… and a god he promised himself he would be.
He looked out now and ahead at the clouds floating behind and above the glowing morning sun. Picturing the ashy smoke rising from the burned down cities of Alpha Darren's and Marcus's packs. Relishing the thought as he smacked his lips against his canines in pleasure.
He smiled and let go of the railings in internal cognizance; turning round and back into his chambers, now nodding his head slowly, with his arms folded, realising it was only a matter of time…
