Chapter 27

Laura Brando narrating:

"Honey... that's exactly why I caused that accident, I couldn't let you leave without getting revenge on the man who destroyed your life." Jason said running his fingers lightly over my cheeks.

"Did you know he paid Edgar to get close to me?" I questioned Jason.

My tone of voice was harsh as if only anger predominated me, I was cold or at least pushing away all the warm feelings that Aron generated in me. Edgar came into my life at a time when I was emotionally shaken, I needed someone, I was hurt, somehow he was my foundation, the man I was in love with and made love to, he was intense but romantic. Not exciting like with Aron.

With Aron it's completely the opposite, it's about arousal, a pleasure that makes me imagine fantasies, that makes me want him and Jason, a pleasure that makes me feel confident, to become a dominant, I had never even imagined that I could do something like that with Edgar, we never took our arousal even to the living room couch, but with Aron today, I was confident, and I don't want to give up that pleasure, but I want to take revenge for him stopping me from falling in love without being treated like a commodity. My anger still manages to be greater than my desire for him.

"Laura, that wasn't the only thing Aron did. I've always told you about how the darkness has dominated every part of him, consumed him and blinded him above all, about what life is like. He manipulates the lives of whoever he wants, like it's the protagonist's drug." Jason said.

"Why do you hate him so much?"

"Aron took the love of everyone around me, the women and my own father. My father and I were like flesh and blood, we were always together...my father loved me, but Aron took that from me, made up lies to keep me from my father. I couldn't go to the wake, he blamed me... not because he believed I would have done anything, because he feared losing the mafia that would be given to him. That's why I hate him, people abandoned me because they imagined that I killed my own father. But the truth, the truth is that Aron facilitated our father's death because he wanted the power he had."

At that point I couldn't even create a shred of doubt, couldn't not see a lie in Jason's eyes. A part of the trust that lodged in my chest was ripped away without warning again. Edgar buried inside me any trace of trust, but with Aron, in the brief moments that were just me and him, it was reborn, I swore I saw truth in him, and now it's all just a mere feeling that makes me feel like a fool. I feel like I'll never be able to trust anyone again.

"Why did he pay Edgar?" I questioned Jason, I just wanted a reason that made sense.

"Are you sure you want to know why? It will forever change your feelings towards him."

"I'm sure..." I confirmed.

Jason walked straight past me out of the room, down the stairs towards the liquor cellar, I looked at him wondering if I would hear something so cruel that I needed the alcohol to ease it. Jason seemed cold, but he also acted as if he had rehearsed a thousand times in his head the right words and actions he would do at that moment. This sounded as intriguing, as a plan that was coming out too perfect, why would Jason want to save me? That's what it sounds like with every so rehearsed decision he makes.

"Laura... what happened to your mom?" Jason questioned me. As if he just wanted me to confirm.

"She became a drug and alcohol addict after my father was killed." I replied.

"Why was your father's death so heavy for her?"

"Jason, what does my mother's story have to do with her wanting to destroy Aron?" I said angrily.

"Everything dear Laura. Your mother has everything to do with it..."

Jason's tone of voice was confused, he knew that what I was about to discover would destroy me, but it was still as if it gave him a pleasure, a pleasure because somehow I was being the bridge that would lead him to achieve what he always wanted, to destroy his twin brother.

Silence ran through me, as if my mind was trying to understand how my mother fit into this whole story. And the questions about why Jason wanted to take it so easy frustrated me.

"What are you doing Laura?" Aron came up saying behind me, which made me shiver in a great fright.

"Nothing... I was talking to Jason about my mom, I miss her."

"That won't be a problem anymore. The clinic where she is no longer received the payments Edgar was responsible for making. Of course we should have realized that he would stop paying, tomorrow you travel to Warsaw, she goes to a new clinic, and they need you there.'' Aron said with a calm tone of voice, but still getting too much to the point, I didn't understand why the coldness in his voice, after we had turned around in the middle of the hot Sheets.

''You mean I'm going to travel alone to...'' I asked Aron without understanding why he would let me travel alone.

"Yes, it will be nice after so long for you to spend time with your mother, I imagine she is important to you even if you have never told me anything about her.

Aron stood there looking at the mood that was between Jason and me as we looked at each other. Jason's eyes proved that he knew exactly why Aron wouldn't accompany me.

''I'm going back to bed... I hope it won't take me long to finish the conversation.''

Aron said turning around and walking up the stairs in an even colder way, in a way that made me question even more why the fact that he had received the call from my mom's clinic had changed him, it was as if this was the certainty I needed to know that my mom really had something to do with all of this.

''You know exactly why he's not going to travel with me, don't you?'' asked Jason.

''Yes, for the very fact that he will be moving to another clinic. Your mother is not an addict as you think, I just needed to get her away, not from you, but from Aron. He'd rather send you on this trip alone, because it's less of a risk, than if he's with you and your mom looks him in the eye. That will make you hate him forever. Tomorrow I'll go with you, I'll tell you everything on the way.''

Jason said getting up and making me throw my body on that cold leather of the couch once again, as if the floor opened up under my feet making me question myself on how I could lie next to Aron and sleep without knowing exactly who the man is that warms the other side of the bed where I lie.
