Chapter 62 62
LOIS
“He has to resist it. He has to either fight my father’s command or submit. He tries to resist, but it hurts—he suffers—and he can’t,” Emmanuel explained to me.
“Help him!” I demanded. “You have to help Ezequiel. You can resist your father’s command—your Alpha’s command—so help him.” I begged, desperate not to see him suffer any longer.
“He has to do it on his own,” Emmanuel repeated, refusing to help his brother.
“Do you think this was the right thing to do?” his father asked, addressing us. The enormous wolf had vanished, replaced now by a tall, broad man whose presence was just as imposing as the beast he had been. “You ran away! You abandoned what rightfully belongs to you. You are the next Alpha of the pack—one of the strongest in years! How do you think this makes us look? How do you think it reflects on our mighty pack when my successor flees for a worthless, insignificant omega? I will see to it that her Alpha gives her a punishment she won’t survive!”
When his father threatened me, Emmanuel lunged forward, slamming into him. His father threw him against a tree, and Emmanuel staggered only to attack again instantly.
His father shifted back into that massive wolf, though Emmanuel had nothing to envy. It was a ferocious fight between them, so fast my eyes struggled to follow, but I could see trees crashing down in their wake, letting the moonlight spill over everything.
I looked at Ezequiel; he was still trembling, howling in pain.
I stepped back when the five wolves fixed their gaze on me, their attention locked entirely on my direction. My body was naked, but that didn’t matter now.
I got to my feet and tried to go to Ezequiel, but one of their growls warned me not to.
I ignored it—I couldn’t watch him suffer and do nothing.
I ran toward him, and before I could touch him, I was thrown through the air.
My body crashed against something, every part of me rattling. My bones cracked, and I coughed as my body slid across the ground.
“Emma… Emmanuel…” I whispered as my eyes started to close and blood dripped from my lips.
The pain tore through me, every breath a torment. I fought to stay conscious, but my vision blurred.
I could hear the growls and blows from Emmanuel’s fight with his father, mixed with Ezequiel’s pained howls. Desperation filled me. I couldn’t give up—not now.
“Lois, hold on,” Emmanuel’s voice echoed in my mind, a beacon in the darkness.
“Don’t leave, please.”
I fought to stay awake, focusing on his voice. I knew he wouldn’t let anything happen to me.
Around me, the wolves kept watching, ready to strike if I moved even an inch. I sensed a shadow looming over me and forced my eyes open.
Emmanuel stood there, covered in wounds but still upright, his gaze locked on his father.
“This ends now!” Emmanuel roared, his voice filled with determination.
With one final push, he launched himself at his father, his movements sharp and precise. The two wolves collided with brutal force, their growls filling the night. The fight was a display of raw power and ferocity—every impact echoing through the forest like thunder. I knew Emmanuel was fighting not just for his right to be Alpha, but for me—for our future together.
They wanted to tear us apart.
“Ezequiel!” I cried with the little strength I had left, my eyes closing.
I felt a warm hand on my forehead and opened my eyes to see Ezequiel, his face twisted with worry and pain.
“Lois… stay with me,” he whispered, his voice trembling.
I tried to smile at him, but the pain was overwhelming. My body relaxed as the darkness wrapped around me.
I knew Emmanuel and Ezequiel would do everything in their power to protect me, to keep me safe. And with that thought, I allowed the darkness to take me, trusting they’d be there when I woke.
But then fangs pierced my skin, and my eyes snapped open again as a new, sharper pain ripped through me—far worse than my wounds.
“Fight it, Lois. This time fight it, please…” Ezequiel’s voice drifted farther and farther away until it disappeared completely.
He had… marked me again.
