Chapter 34: A Shared Morning
Chapter 34: A Shared Morning
Morning crept in slowly behind the thick curtains that hadn't been fully closed. A soft orange light danced on the bedroom walls, sweeping over the lines of their bodies still touching in the warm silence. Damian woke up first. For a few seconds, he just stared at Vanya, still asleep on his chest, her breathing soft and peaceful.
Something had changed.
It wasn't just because of what had happened the night before. It wasn't just because of the hugs, the kisses, or the sighs that filled the space between them. But because after so long, Damian felt... he didn't want to wake up alone anymore.
His hand moved slowly, stroking Vanya's hair that was spread across his shoulder. Then, as if only now realizing the peace he had longed for, Damian took a deep breath. He leaned down and lightly kissed Vanya's temple. The woman hummed softly with her eyes still closed.
"Damian..." she whispered semi-consciously.
"Hmm?"
Vanya slowly opened her eyes, then gave a small smile. She looked sleepy, but felt very comfortable. "You're not sleeping?"
"I woke up first."
They looked at each other in silence. There was no awkwardness between them that morning, only a silence that felt whole.
Damian stroked Vanya's cheek. "Are you hungry?"
Vanya nodded slowly. "But I still want to lie here for a while."
Damian gave a faint smile. "Alright. But after this... I want to take you somewhere."
"Somewhere?" Vanya frowned slightly, then rested her chin on the man's chest. "Where?"
Damian looked away for a moment, then back at her. "To a place I've never shown anyone."
Vanya stared at him for a long time, trying to guess the meaning behind his gaze. But Damian only smiled faintly, then got out of bed, putting on his robe.
"I'll have the servants prepare breakfast. Meet me in the dining room when you're ready."
Vanya nodded, though still confused. Damian was asking her to go out? After she had been confined in this magnificent villa for so long? This was a good sign of progress, although her heart felt a little strange. She felt nervous and calm at the same time.
Vanya got up and started to put on her dress, which was slightly torn from Damian's tugging the night before. She smiled to herself, remembering what had happened between them. As a captive, she was beginning to feel a little free and... comfortable. Not like the captive she had feared all along.
Vanya left Damian's room and went to her own. She glanced to her left and right, but saw no one. It was odd; on a morning like this, there were usually many guards in various corners of the villa. But Vanya felt the number of guards had slightly decreased since yesterday.
In her room, Vanya immediately cleaned up and got ready. However, she took a moment to sit at her desk and pick up her journal to write something.
Vanya looked down and began to write.
Today, Damian said he would take me out. For the first time since I entered his life, or more accurately, his world. He said he wanted to show me something. Something he claims he has never shown anyone.
I don't know why, but my heart has been beating faster since this morning. It feels like waiting for a surprise, and I don't know how it will end. But the one who makes me keep thinking is him.
Damian.
She paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and then continued to write.
I don't know where to start to describe that man. Sometimes he is so warm, so... human. But at other times, he is cold, sharp, and almost untouchable.
Like the night before, for example. What happened between us? All those touches, those stares... They couldn't have been just a coincidence or part of his game. I felt a wall crumble for a moment. But when morning came... he withdrew again. As if last night never happened.
Why is he like that?
Vanya bit her lip, holding back the emotions that were settling in her chest. She wrote more slowly this time, each word feeling heavier.
But even so... I know something has changed. Even in his silence, I can feel it. There is something different in his eyes when he looks at me. There is a wound that hasn't healed. There is a feeling that hasn't been resolved.
And last night... that intimate scene repeated itself. This time it was closer and deeper. He even made me forget that he is a cruel monster who often kidnaps women.
And I... foolishly just became more curious.
Why can he be so cold, then so warm? Why can't I stop staring at him every time he comes?
Are these feelings? Or is it just because I have lived in isolation for too long that a small touch feels like the embrace of the universe? Or... have I become the fourth victim without even realizing it?
What is clear is that there is a connection between us. And I know I'm not crazy.
I will continue to record every change. Every one of his breaths. Every gaze that falls into my eyes is quickly averted.
She finished her writing with a firm period, then slowly closed the journal. Her fingers were still trembling as she tucked the book into the drawer of her vanity. A faint smile graced her face as she stood, made a final adjustment to her hair, and looked at her reflection in the mirror.
"Come on, Vanya," she whispered, almost like a prayer. "Maybe today, you'll see a little more of the man you've been secretly writing about."
A moment later, a gentle knock was heard on the door.
Damian.
