Chapter 23 — Chaos Inside the Prison

Val POV:

This is not the end of everything. They think they're safe even inside the prison. I will kill all of you especially Alexander who let my daughter die. Their money is not enough to buy their life.

I saw Gifford, their cellmates. I need to approach him about my plan. I will ask for his little help tonight. Cassandra and I talked about our plan yesterday when she snuck into our cell.

Flashback:

Cassandra waited for the security guards to have a break for coffee shifts before she sneaks inside the boy's cell. She needs to tell Val about her plan how to assassinate their daughter's murderer.

She went to his cell. She called Val from the outside. She prepared a letter about what to do for Paul and Alexander. Tomorrow, the security guards will bring them to another penitentiary where only two of them will stay. It's called the VIP cellar.

Val was awake and quickly took it from Cassandra. She studied her surroundings and she saw one warden is approaching her. She quickly runs and hides behind the trashcan. It's dark but he used a flashlight.

"Anyone here?” he called out while pointing the flashlight to every corner of the wall.

Val saw it so he made a way to distract the warden. He acts as if he had stomach pain and he needed medicine.

“Okay, just lower your voice or you will wake your fellow inmates,” he told him. The warden went outside, and he signaled his wife to go.

Cassandra stood up and made her way out and went back to her cell.

Val felt relieved after saving his wife from the guards.

He kept the letter under his bed. He woke up early to check the letter while everyone is still asleep. He opened it and read the letter.

Val,

Get someone to kill Alexander and Paul in their group. We don't have much time!

Cassandra Val quickly closed it and as the warden called out for breakfast, he knew what to do.

His eyes traveled to the food counter, and he saw the two old men sitting at one table. His eyes glued glaring at them. He clenched his fist while looking at them.

"I will kill both of you!” he mumbled when their eyes shifted on him.

“Poor Val. He will stay in prison forever unlike us. Any day we will get discharged soon," Paul told Alexander with a smirk.

Alexander took a deep breath before he turned around to see Val.

"Don't talk like that. We are paying our sins. That's why we're here. Just ignore him," he said, and they continue eating their breakfast.

Val saw them laughing and he thought it was him they're laughing at. His anger became intense as they keep on laughing at him.

"Just laugh all you want. Tonight, one of you will bleed to death." A sneering gaze appeared on his face.

He saw Gifford and called him.

"Wanna join me?" he made a good impression on him.

Gifford had hard built like a wrestler and if you saw him, you will pee in fear. His crumpled face and dragon-like eyes made you afraid of him.

“Sure,” he replied.

All of the cellmates murmured at one another. They knew what kind of prisoner Gifford was.

He sat in front of Val. He's not afraid of it besides he kept money from his bag. It was the money he kept for many years. It was for Kyle's medication, but she died suddenly and the money he kept can't afford to do an operation.

"Want my sausage?” he said and took it from his plate.

Gifford's made a narrowed face. His brows crossed while staring at Val. Maybe he knows what he meant. He took it and ate it whole. He chewed it fast.

“What do you want? I know you need something don't you?” his eyes questioning him.

Val took a glass of water and drink it all before he answered him. He leans closer so no one will hear what he was about to say at Gifford.

"I want you to kill the two old men tonight. Thirty thousand pesos, take it or leave it!” he sounded like he has that huge amount of money.

Gifford's eyes widened after hearing his offer.

“Do you have that big sum of money? Are you kidding me?” he said like he doesn't believe him.

Val shrugged his shoulders and nod his head.

Gifford's face brightened after his confirmation.

“I'm in! So, what is your plan?” he asked Val.

Val took something from his pocket. It was a toothbrush.

Gifford saw it and he chuckled.

"What is this? I will use this as my weapon?” he said.

Val looked around and told him to lower his voice.

“Can you keep it? The guards are everywhere. They will notice us!” he told him.

"Wait what do you mean by this?” Gifford quickly snatch it from him when he felt a sting on his palm.

“Ouch!” he winces, and the guards hear it.

"Hey, both of you, what's that noise?” one of the wardens who were as big as Dwayne Johnson came to check on them.

Gifford cleared his throat.

“Nothing. I just dropped my spoon,” he made an excuse.

Val's face turned pale because he's afraid that his life sentence will be doubled.

"Yes, sir. He's a careless fellow!” Val added but his face is sweaty.

The warden studied them but after that, he told them to watch their attitude.

“Yes, sir. I'm so sorry again." Gifford said and the warden left them.

After their meal, Gifford promised Val that he will do a perfect assault tonight. Val set an evil look after they separated ways.

Night comes and all of them are in a deep sleep, but Val rolled in his bed from side to side because he can't sleep. How can he fall asleep when he ordered someone to kill a person?

"Fuck!” he whispered and covered his face with his pillow.

While Val is feeling uneasy about tonight, Gifford is feeling excited about the job he accepted from Val. For him, it's a huge sum of money.

“I can't make mistakes tonight or else, my life will end here,” he said to himself while glaring at the two old men who were sleeping quietly.

Five Hours Earlier Paul POV:

I'm so excited to be transferred to another cellar with my business partner and a friend.

I saw Alexander brushing his teeth inside the bathroom and I waited my turn. I was shocked that we had the same color of toothbrush, so I decided to put my name on his handle.

After him, he saw me.

"Hurry, tomorrow is a great day for us, Paul,” he said to me, and I smiled at him.

I agreed with what he said.

Yes, and my daughter will feel comfortable seeing me laying inside a VIP jailhouse. We only have one year to pay for our sins. I hired a lawyer, and I am doing good deeds inside the prison so they will give me parole.

Alexander tapped me on my shoulder before he told me that he will sleep early for tomorrow's schedule.

"Maybe I will read a little passage on the Bible first that my daughter Eloisa gave me yesterday," I told him.

"Just take a rest after, okay," he said.

Gifford was sitting on his bed while listening to their conversation. He was kinda pissed to think that Paul will read a Bible first before going to sleep.

"Why many old men love sleeping late?” he uttered with his crumpled face.

After Five Hours.

Gifford POV:

Everyone is sleeping soundly. I shifted my eyes to the two old men, and they look dead. I chuckled. I am thinking funny things, but I will commit a crime tonight. Blood will splatter on their mattress as this sharp edge of Val's toothbrush whack their guts or either throat.

I slowly stepped down on the floor and walked beside their mattress. I didn't wait for any second to kill them both. I raised the knife and was about to slash Paul's neck, but he was awake and quickly avoided my attack. The knife hit his right shoulder.

"Help!!!" Paul screamed while trying to stop the heavy arms that wanted to stab him again. The cell was dark, and Paul didn't see his face. He has no idea who attacked him.

"Die, old man!" he said but it's too late.

All of them woke up and Alexander saw the blood in his hands. The lights turn on and he was holding the weapon used by his friend Paul.

The security guards came and all of them put their hands behind their neck and bent their heads.

"Everyone, fall. Don't move." They ordered and saw the wounded Mr. Sherlock.

"What happened here? Call the medic, he got stabbed." One of the guards called for help.

They saw the weapon at Alexander whose face turned pale shocked and unaware of what just happened.

That night, they pointed to Alexander as the culprit.
