Chapter 209 Imogen's Old Acquaintance

Chapter 209 Imogen's Old Acquaintance

For the rest of the voyage, Frank drove steadily and carefully, not daring to make any unnecessary moves.

But Sylvia's seasickness seemed to have been triggered like a switch - it spiraled out of control. She vomited until completely exhausted.

By the time the yacht finally docked at what looked like a heavily guarded private island, Sylvia was so dehydrated her lips were cracked. Frank had to half-carry, half-support her off the boat.

Seeing how weak she looked, Frank's handsome face was full of regret and guilt, his voice dropping several notches, "I'm sorry, Sylvia. I didn't know you got seasick."

"It's okay..." Sylvia waved her hand weakly, her voice barely a whisper.

"Go get a doctor, quick!" Frank turned and shouted at Lisa.

"Okay!" Lisa was scared too and took off running toward a white building on the island.

Soon, a middle-aged man in a doctor's uniform wearing gold-rimmed glasses hurried over with a medical kit. He did a simple examination of Sylvia, took her blood pressure, and asked several questions, his brow furrowing tighter and tighter.

"Doctor, how is she?" Frank asked nervously.

The doctor pushed up his glasses, glanced at Sylvia, then at the worried-looking Garth beside her, and asked in a somewhat odd tone, "Miss, has your period been regular lately?"

Sylvia froze, thought carefully, and suddenly realized her period was almost two weeks late.

Seeing her confused expression, the doctor nodded knowingly, then dropped a bombshell: "Based on your pulse and symptoms, you're pregnant, about six weeks along. The early pregnancy symptoms are quite strong, and combined with seasickness, that's why you've been vomiting so badly."

His words left everyone present stunned.

Frank's mouth hung open, unable to close for a long time, his mind completely blank.

After the initial shock, Lisa burst into enormous joy. She cried out loudly, excitedly rushing to Sylvia's side, her eyes uncontrollably drifting to Sylvia's flat stomach, "Sylvia! You're pregnant! Oh my God, there's a little baby in there!"

As she spoke, Lisa couldn't help but reach out her hand, wanting to touch.

Before Lisa's hand could touch Sylvia's clothes, it was forcefully pulled away by a small hand.

"Don't touch!" Garth spread his arms wide, like a little wolf cub protecting its food, standing seriously in front of Sylvia, glaring warily at Lisa, "There's a little sister in there! You'll hurt her!"

Garth remembered clearly - Sylvia and Henry had said they would give him a little sister!

Garth's protective stance toward Sylvia amused Lisa, though she didn't dare push further.

Sylvia was still immersed in tremendous shock, her mind buzzing.

She instinctively placed her hand on her stomach. It was still completely flat, but thinking that a little life was growing inside - hers and Henry's child - an indescribable, wonderful feeling instantly enveloped her.

Her heart, which had been hanging anxiously since Skylar's appearance, seemed to find its most secure resting place in this moment.

Sylvia suddenly felt relieved, the corners of her lips unconsciously curving upward.

She would save this surprise to tell Henry in person when she got back.

Because Sylvia was severely dehydrated, the doctor suggested she get IV fluids to restore her strength. She was arranged on a bed in the medical room and hooked up to glucose.

Frank peeled an apple for Sylvia at her bedside, while Lisa told her jokes, both being extremely attentive.

Sylvia leaned against the headboard, looking at the lush scenery outside the window, thinking about how to tell Henry, when the medical room door was suddenly pushed open with a "bang" from outside.

A hurried figure burst in. Without even looking at Sylvia on the bed, he pulled Frank outside and started yelling: "Frank! Have you lost your mind? Don't you know the branch has been cracking down on traitors lately? At this critical time, you bring an outsider to the island - can you handle the consequences if something goes wrong!"

The newcomer was a man in his thirties with a square face, wearing a crisp black uniform with a management-level badge on his shoulder.

His name was John Miller, one of the leaders of this Sapphire Sky Guild island branch, known for being strict.

Frank's hand paused mid-apple-peel, his handsome face full of defiance, "John, watch your tone! That's my cousin, not some outsider!"

"Cousin?" John sneered, his eyes sharp as knives, "How come I didn't know you suddenly had a cousin? Frank, I'm warning you, don't think you can do whatever you want just because the Boss protects you. The branch has a mole right now - anyone of unknown origin is suspect. I have to detain her for investigation!"

The words "mole" and "suspect" made Frank's expression darken instantly.

Frank threw the fruit knife hard on the ground, blocking the door to Sylvia's room, refusing to budge, "I told you, she's my cousin! If you dare touch her, you won't want to know what you'll be facing!"

"Do you even understand organizational discipline!" John flew into a rage, about to explode.

Hearing their argument, Sylvia's heart tightened.

She was already unsettled about the pregnancy, and now she couldn't rest easy.

She pulled out the IV needle, and despite Lisa's attempts to stop her, she whispered, "Sable, watch Garth, don't let him come out."

With that, Sylvia put on her coat and walked out of the medical room, her face pale.

"What are you arguing about?" Sylvia's voice wasn't loud, still carrying a trace of illness-induced weakness, but it successfully silenced both men.

John instinctively looked toward the voice. When his eyes fell on Sylvia's face, he froze in place as if struck by lightning.

The anger, authority, and coldness on his face all faded away in an instant, replaced by extreme shock and disbelief. His eyes, usually sharp and scrutinizing, were now wide open, his lips trembling slightly, as if he'd seen someone impossible.

The surrounding air seemed to freeze.

After a long moment, John finally squeezed out a sentence from his throat, his voice dry and hoarse, carrying a tremor he himself hadn't noticed.

"Imogen?"

The words were soft, but like a stone dropped into a calm lake, they created huge ripples in everyone's hearts.

Frank and Lisa both froze, looking at each other in confusion, not understanding why John would suddenly call out such an unfamiliar name.

But Sylvia's heart jumped violently.

Imogen... Imogen.

That was Sylvia's mother's name.

Sylvia steadied herself and, meeting John's incredibly complex gaze, asked softly, "You knew my mother?"

Her words finally brought John back from his daze.

The shock in his eyes slowly transformed into deep sadness and nostalgia. He carefully studied Sylvia, from her eyes to her lips, and finally shook his head with a bitter smile, sighing, "The resemblance... it's uncanny... You and your mother when she was young - you're practically identical."

It turned out that John, standing before Sylvia, was an old acquaintance of Imogen's.
