Chapter 199 Return to the Johnson Mansion

Chapter 199 Return to the Johnson Mansion

Hazel's words hit Susan like a bolt of lightning.

Impossible!

Lawrence's leg was perfectly fine all along. So, he had been pretending this whole time?

Lawrence was terrifying!

Susan's heart raced as she clenched her fists and hesitantly spoke, "Lawrence, your leg's been fine all along? That's great!"

Lawrence's brow furrowed at her address.

"Ms. Knight, I've told you before, we're not that close. Call me Mr. Johnson here."

His cold words cut into Susan's heart like a knife. She stared at Lawrence in disbelief.

Just a while ago, Lawrence's attitude towards her was friendly.

Suddenly, Susan understood everything.

Her gaze shifted between Lawrence and Hazel. What was there not to understand?

These two had been playing her all along!

Seeing Susan's expression change, Hazel giggled and linked her arm with Lawrence's. "Honey, Susan seems to have forgotten the safe's password. Why don't you help her open it?"

Susan's face flushed with anger.

"You two are playing me!"

Lawrence's cold eyes met hers. "Wasn't it you who tried to steal my company's files first? If you hadn't had such thoughts, how could you have been fooled?"

He walked to his desk, pulled out a file from a drawer, and held it up in front of Susan.

"Is this what you're looking for?"

Susan saw the name on the file—it was exactly what she needed.

Realization hit her hard. She had been tricked by Lawrence.

She had obtained the file so easily before, but it contained faulty data.

When Robert told her the file was problematic, she didn't believe him. She never expected it to be a trap set by Lawrence.

How terrifying! When did Lawrence find out?

"Lawrence, you deliberately placed a fake file in the safe and made sure I saw the password, didn't you?"

Susan was on the verge of breaking down. She thought she had done everything perfectly.

But in the end, she fell into Lawrence's trap.

Hazel scoffed, "You brought this on yourself."

Susan seemed not to hear Hazel's words. She stared at Lawrence and asked bitterly, "When did you find out?"

"From the moment you returned."

Lawrence replied, "The Knight family moved their company overseas after my parents died. Your father's account suddenly received a large sum of money. Did you think after all these years, I wouldn't find out that the Knight family was involved in my parents' murder?"

His voice was icy and sharp.

Susan's face visibly paled with panic. "No, it's not like that! Lawrence, listen to me."

She reached out to grab Lawrence's sleeve.

But Lawrence deftly avoided her.

He didn't look at her again. "Stuart, call the police. Report that a thief was caught stealing my company's confidential files."

Stuart smiled slightly, "Mr. Johnson, the police have already been called. They're downstairs now."

As he finished speaking, sirens blared from below.

Susan panicked, "No, don't call the police. Lawrence, I was wrong. I shouldn't have stolen the files. Please let me go. I can't be arrested."

But Lawrence's only response was his departing back.

Stuart had already called security to detain Susan. When the police arrived, he personally handled the situation.

Meanwhile, Hazel and Lawrence took the elevator downstairs.

Lawrence walked confidently to the car, opened the door for Hazel, helped her buckle her seatbelt, and then got in on the other side.

This scene was witnessed by many.

Some recognized the tall, handsome man as Lawrence and were stunned.

That night, news of Lawrence standing up went viral.

Photos of Lawrence and Hazel walking together dispelled rumors of their cold war and impending divorce.

When they returned to Emerald Heights Estate, Nellie and Kaila had already seen the trending news.

But since they had been at the villa, they didn't believe the miracle story of Lawrence's legs suddenly healing overnight.

It was clear that Lawrence had been pretending all along.

So, when Lawrence and Hazel returned, even the usually talkative and lively Nellie was unusually silent.

"Nellie, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything tonight?" Hazel asked curiously when she noticed Nellie's silence.

Nellie pressed her lips together. "Nothing, just feeling more scared now that Mr. Johnson suddenly stood up."

Lawrence, who had just walked over, heard Nellie's words, and his eye twitched slightly.

He turned to Nellie, "Am I really that scary?"

Though Lawrence's tone was gentle, Nellie sensed the danger.

She nodded, then quickly shook her head.

"Alright, stop scaring them. They're timid."

Seeing Nellie almost in tears, Hazel chided Lawrence lightly.

The atmosphere in the room relaxed again.

The next morning, it was raining outside.

Lawrence didn't rush to the office and enjoyed a rare leisurely morning.

The trending news had been taken down overnight, but many people still knew about Lawrence standing up.

Those who had mocked him behind his back were now fearful, but some genuinely felt happy for him.

As soon as Lawrence got up, he received a call from Louis.

Louis hadn't contacted him for a while, but today he suddenly called.

Lawrence had a good idea why.

"Lawrence, you really fooled everyone. You were never disabled!"

Louis's voice was loud enough to burst eardrums.

Lawrence frowned and held the phone away, "Anything else? Speak quickly."

His tone was tinged with annoyance.

Louis was irritated, "Can't I call to congratulate you?"

"Thanks."

Lawrence chuckled and hung up, then got ready for the day.

When he saw Hazel was ready too, he smiled gently, "Let's go. We're visiting the Johnson Mansion today."

Hazel nodded and joined him in the car.
