Chapter 631

Chapter 631

The police were in a frenzy to crack the case quickly, so they started asking for tips on TV, creating a buzz with news channels constantly updating the public.

Sierra stumbled upon the news eventually. Initially, she brushed it off, knowing Indigo's penchant for lying - he was not the most trustworthy person, and few knew his real self.

However, two days later, a news piece grabbed her attention. It mentioned an anonymous tip about needle marks on the body resembling those used for punishment in a certain casino.

Sierra freaked out.

Indigo dabbled in gambling occasionally, and though she wasn't familiar with it, she had heard about it. If they linked it to the casino and uncovered Indigo's identity, their secret relationship would be out in the open.

She hadn't anticipated things spiraling out of control so fast. Fearing the unknown repercussions, she got rid of any items that could identify Indigo, even weighing down the suitcase with large rocks to keep it from surfacing.

Yet, within days, not only was Indigo's body found, but his identity was also on the brink of exposure.

Sierra had a hunch that someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes. But who wielded such power?

"Don't sweat it, I heard the guy kicked the bucket in some far-off burb, so the killer ain't likely to show up here," the nanny chimed in suddenly.

Sierra trembled in fear.

The nanny kindly comforted her, "I heard the cops are close to ID'ing him, so once they nail down his identity and catch the real perp, everything will be sorted, and you can finally breathe easy."

The nanny had noticed Sierra's anxious state over the past days, assuming she was fretting about potential harm coming her way.

Sierra listened, her heart racing, and asked the nanny in disbelief, "Wait, where'd you hear this scoop?"

Worried that Sierra might doubt her, the nanny hastily reassured, "It's all over the news, just updated."

Sierra went pale in an instant.

The nanny went on, "I went out for groceries today, and they had Willow Street blocked off. They found the murder weapon and the victim's phone there. Long story short, the case is almost solved."

The nanny sounded relieved, like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

But to Sierra, it felt like a death sentence.

When she disposed of Indigo, she made sure to separate the murder weapon, phone, and wallet before getting rid of them. How could they have been discovered so quickly?

Seeing Sierra's distress, the nanny quickly inquired, "What's up? Feeling sick?"

"It's nothing, just feeling a bit lightheaded all of a sudden," Sierra waved it off, shooing the nanny away, her hands shaking uncontrollably as she tried to compose herself.

She left no fingerprints, and even if they investigated, they wouldn't find any evidence against her.

Plus, she had intentionally dodged surveillance cameras when she was out that day. She was in the clear.

She tried to reassure herself desperately, managing to calm down a bit after a few minutes.

But she couldn't just wait around.

She couldn't stay put here.

She needed to get away.

Sierra grabbed her phone and dialed Walter decisively, "Give me ten million bucks, and I'll vanish from your life, never to bother you again."

Walter was caught off guard by her sudden demand, "What's gotten into you all of a sudden?"

With time ticking away, Sierra couldn't afford to beat around the bush. She got straight to the point, "I helped you deal with Elaine on the cheap, that should mean something. And don't you want to build a family with your son? Just cough up the cash, and I'll disappear."

Walter fell silent.

He had been struggling with how to divorce Sierra and minimize the fallout. But Sierra offering this deal on her own changed the game.

However, he was too worn out to delve into why Sierra had made this choice. He simply replied, "Ten million bucks is a no-go."

Sierra hadn't anticipated such a firm rejection of the money. Her expression darkened, "Walter, do you really believe everything you have is solely your own doing?"

"If it weren't for my advice in the past, you might not even have the Garcia family now. And now you're hesitating to give me ten million as a gesture of our history? Are you serious?"

"I've invested money and effort in your career, how much of my own blood and sweat have I poured into it? And now you're turning your back on me?"

When their careers were brought up, Walter's expression turned sour, "You have the nerve to say that? Without you, would the Garcia family be in such a mess now?"

"How much cash did you secretly give your brother behind my back? You know it, I just didn't want to cause a scene, so I let it slide. How can you ask for so much money now?"

"I've stood by you for years, when have you ever given me anything in return? Your relatives, they all climbed the ladder thanks to me, grabbing so many resources from the Garcia family."

"And let's not forget all the expenses I covered for your illegitimate child. I haven't taken legal action out of respect for our history."

Sierra, hearing him degrade her like that, became furious, "You supported me? If it weren't for the Brown family backing you before, where would you be now?"

"If not for Elisa, what would you amount to? You can fool others, but don't fool yourself. Isn't it laughable?"

"Do you really believe you're blameless here? Someone who can harm their own mother personally, do you even have a conscience?"

The tension between them escalated, with Walter finally snapping, "Shut it! You ungrateful woman! I've raised two thankless brats!"

Sierra stood her ground, her tone icy, "Walter, you leave a trail of messes behind you, and I've always been there to clean up after you. If I decide to stop covering for you, it'll be your downfall. Think about that."

"If Elisa uncovers all your misdeeds, do you think she'll go easy on you? Do you think the Brown family will let you slide? Keep dreaming!"

Walter, trembling with rage, wanted to argue back but found himself speechless, as everything Sierra said hit home.

After giving Walter a verbal thrashing, Sierra felt a sense of relief and delivered her final demand, "Transfer the money to my account within two days, or get ready to face the consequences."

With that, she abruptly ended the call.

Walter was seething with anger, feeling lightheaded and almost losing his balance.

Jade, pretending to emerge from the room, casually inquired, "Mr. Garcia, are you okay? You don't look too good. Is it your blood pressure?"

At the sight of Jade and her prominent belly, Walter's anger dissipated. He took a deep breath, helped her sit down, and spoke gently, "It's nothing, I just stood up too quickly earlier."

Jade glanced at the recent call log and calmly mentioned, "I shouldn't have interrupted your work, but I saw some unsettling news just now and got scared, so I wanted your company."

Walter immediately assumed the role of a reassuring presence, "Those news reports are distant from us, no need to fret."

"Not distant, quite close. It seems there was a gruesome incident nearby," Jade responded.
